Charlie Crist Should Bow Out Gracefully. Tries to Contact White House for Support; Their Response?

The Progressives are hoping if Crist turns Independent he will Caucus with the Democrats a la Joe Liberman.

Then this bit of news:

Here first:

Charlie Crist, soon to be independent Senate candidate from Florida, tried to reach White House chief of staff Emanuel through intermediates. WH refuses to take the call. Dems plan big talent/money blitz for Kendrick Meek. BTW: Obama’s approval rating in FL is in high 40s, per internal Dem polling.

The White House will stump for Meeks for Florida Senator.  After all he is a Democrat even though he is considered to be a “Blue Dog”…..

Obama NEEDS Florida in the 2012 election.

==================================

Crist should just bow out of the Florida Senate race gracefully……

WHY did Crist run for the Senate when he could have easily won a Second Term as Governor?

Has anyone asked Crist this question?

A trick of the Progressive Left?

Excerpts from a discussion between Glenn Beck and Rep. Chaffetz……

The progressives are saying they are getting all of these services    when this all starts to come down, “They’re getting all these services.  What, conservatives, you want us to go bankrupt?  They should be paying for those.  They should be paying taxes.”

In reality it’s going to give them the legitimacy that if they go down and say we want change and that they can just, by a very, very small margin say that, yeah, we want statehood, then suddenly they are going to implement what they call the Tennessee plan, which has historically been how they seat people in congress, they will implement a Tennessee plan.  It’s part of their party platform.  They will get this, “Hey, we did what the federal government told us to do.  We’re now going to send you our two United States senators and our six members of congress, and you have to seat them.”

This is about really the fundamental transformation of America.  This is what I said when we had Van Jones in, or when we were first looking at Van Jones.  He was in the prisons and he was making the rounds in prisons saying “We need you to fix our economy, we need people like you.”  And I asked, why are we doing that?  When we had the stimulus package, jobs were taken to build solar panels in New York from a solar panel company.  That went under so they could move the money and the solar panel business to the prisons.  And I said at the time, these people are quoting    are courting the prison vote right now.  They’re trying to let prisoners vote, correct?  Illegals vote.  Puerto Rico will have statehood.  Am I missing anybody else?

IF the Arizona Illegal Immigration Bill Stands; get Puerto Rico as 51st State.

Make them pay taxes…….

TWO ADDITIONAL SENATORS ADDED ……If this passes and Puerto Rico votes FOR THIS.

Currently the Democrats do not have a fillibuster proof Senate.  The Democrats push this bill; possibly adding TWO Senators = Fillbuster proof Senate again.

Read this:
I propose we try something traditional. If Coleman is right that the most glaring injustice of Puerto Rico’s status is its lack of equal representation—and he is unquestionably right about that—then I suggest we solve the problem the way our forebears did: with statehood. Statehood would not only ensure equal representation in the House for Puerto Rico, it would guarantee two Senators and the presidential vote. Why settle for less?

What’s more, if you really can’t suppress your appetite for innovation and flexibility, Puerto Rican statehood may yet belong on your plate. After all, as opponents of statehood love to point out, most Puerto Ricans think of themselves as a nation with a distinct history and culture, and most speak Spanish as their only or primary language. What could be more innovative and flexible than to make room, in the American union of equal states, for a place with a distinct history, culture, and language?

Arizona communist appeals for help to fight illegal immigration bill

Leading Tuscon Communist Party USA member, Carolyn Trowbridge has appealed for Party help in fighting Arizona’s new “get tough on illegal immigration” Bill (SB 1070).

Carolyn_Trowbridge

The Bill which mandates law enforcement officers to check a suspects immigration status when there is good cause to do so, has drawn anger from the US left, from President Barack Obama down.

Writing in the Peoples World of April 26, Trowbridge who triples as chair of the Communist Party’s Women’s Commission , vice president of the Arizona ACLU and as a leading immigration activist, expressed her anger at the new law.

We are tired of being the laughing stock of the U.S., we are tired of being threatened, we are more than tired, WE ARE REALLY PISSED OFF. And we want the rest of you to also be pissed off. One reason our legislature and governor think they can get away with this crap is that no one else in the country is paying attention or cares.

Trowbridge went on to compare l the Bill, which merely seeks to enforce already existing federal guidelines, with Apartheid and even “ethnic cleansing”.

So we can use some loud voices in support of the national economic boycott of Arizona called by Raul Grijalva. Already the American Immigration Lawyers Association has dropped plans to hold their convention here. If you know of any other organizations who are planning events here, if you know people who are planning vacations (the Grand Canyon is fabulous but stay away until it is safe to come), moving a business, buying anything from us (especially citrus and other agricultural items), tell them to stop. We are fighting against our own apartheid, our own flirtation with ethnic cleansing.

Trowbridge echoed the calls of far left Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva for economic sanctions against her own state.

Economic sanctions are appropriate. We listened when our brothers and sisters in South Africa called on the people of the world for economic sanctions because they knew that theirs was a greater goal; a little suffering and struggle would yield justice and freedom. We sustained an economic boycott here in Arizona when an earlier racist governor of the state of Arizona canceled our Martin Luther King Day; we won that struggle when the folks organizing the Super Bowl said they would never hold an event here in Arizona until there was a reversal. And we can win again.

Lastly, Trowbridge appealed to comrades across the nation to support the Arizona Party in its campaign against (SB 1070).

We need to know you have our back. We have more crazies that we deserve in Arizona at the moment. We need your support and we need an organized call from every state for real, honest, humane, and just Immigration Reform.

Its going to be a long hot Arizona summer.

ABOUT the US Congressional Progressive Caucus: (With Nancy Pelosi at helm)

  • Radical caucus of nearly six-dozen members of the House of Representatives
  • Until 1999, worked in open partnership with Democratic Socialists of America
  • The Progressive Caucus is an organization of Members of Congress founded in 1991 by newly-elected House Representative Bernie Sanders (Independent-Vermont), who is a self-described socialist.

As of April 2007, the Progressive Caucus included Sanders (who became a U.S. Senator in 2006), Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, and 69 members of the House of Representatives, all of them leftist Democrats and almost all in districts heavily gerrymandered to guarantee the re-election of any Democratic Party incumbent, no matter how extreme.

On November 11, 1999, the Progressive Caucus drafted its Position Paper on economic inequality. It reads, in part, as follows: “Economic inequality is the result of two and a half decades of government policies and rules governing the economy being tilted in favor of large asset owners at the expense of wage earners. Tax policy, trade policy, monetary policy, government regulations and other rules have reflected this pro-investor bias. We propose the introduction or reintroduction of a package of legislative initiatives that will close America’s economic divide and address both income and wealth disparities. … The concentration of wealth is a problem because it distorts our democracy, destabilizes the economy and erodes our social and cultural fabric.”

In order “to bring new life to the progressive voice in U.S. politics,” the Progressive Caucus has worked closely with Progressive Challenge, a project of the Institute for Policy Studies. Progressive Challenge is a coalition through which the activities and talking points of leftist groups are synchronized and harmonized with one another, producing coordinated, mutually-reinforcing propaganda from some 200 seemingly-unconnected groups.

In 2005 the Progressive Caucus crafted its “Progressive Promise” document, which advocates socialized medicine; radical environmentalism; the redistribution of wealth; higher taxes; the elimination of numerous provisions of the Patriot Act; dramatic reductions in the government’s intelligence-gathering capabilities; debt relief for poor countries; and the quick withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. These measures, says the Progressive Caucus, would help “re-build U.S. alliances around the world, restore international respect for American power and influence, and reaffirm our nation’s constructive engagement in the United Nations and other multilateral organizations.”

Until 1999 the Progressive Caucus worked in open partnership with Democratic Socialists of America. After the press reported on this link, the connections suddenly vanished from both organizations’ websites.

    http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6497

    ===============================================

Today the Congressional Progressive Caucus will push Socialist policies in the House—and the Senate. “A Socialist in the Senate?” headlined a 2005 CommonDreams.org profile of Sanders’ political aspirations. “If Sanders moves over to the Senate, he’ll have even more power to grill [Alan] Greenspan and the rest of the plutocrats in power.”

Despite his Independent affiliation, Sanders was endorsed in 2006 by senior figures in the Democratic Party, including Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Charles Schumer (N.Y.), and Reid.

Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) campaigned in Vermont for Sanders.

As long as the Democratic Party was out of power, CPC initiatives were largely ignored. But caucus proposals are sure to be trumpeted as common-sense solutions in the new Congress, and Sanders’ new position in the 100-member Senate gives the CPC added clout. Reid has given Sanders five committee assignments: Environment and Public Works; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; Veterans Affairs; Energy and Natural Resources; and Budget.

“The Terminator” has stepped in it and doesn’t even realize it; or does he?

Industry Risk – Climate Exchange PLC Announces Formation of the CaCX

    May 30, 2007

Chicago Climate Exchange, Inc. (CCX) announced yesterday that it is forming the California Climate Exchange (CaCX) to develop and trade financial instruments relevant to the California Global Warming Solutions Act, AB32, recently signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, which calls for a mandatory reduction in California’s greenhouse gas emissions as of 2012, with mandatory reporting of emissions to commence in 2008.

“We congratulate the pioneering initiative of the great State of California, the legislature and the people of California and know that implementing any emissions trading that may ensue will require price transparency and efficient, exchange-based systems for maximum success,” said Dr. Richard L. Sandor, Chairman and CEO of Chicago Climate Exchange.

He added, “CCX has uniquely already accomplished a demonstration linkage between CCX, the only operational cap-and-trade greenhouse gas system in the United States, and the only other operational trading system, the European Union’s Emissions Trading Scheme, through our member, Baxter Pharmaceuticals. To the extent a market emerges in California, CCX and the California Climate Exchange can easily and cost-efficiently accomplish linkage with other national, regional and global markets.”

Product development will be ready for operation in accordance with the evolution and needs of California and AB32.

CCX has a number of members with headquarters and operations in California, including Sacramento County, the cities of Oakland and Berkeley, Safeway, Cloverland, Environmental Credit Corporation, Intel, and Sony Electronics.

The German mystical alchemist Heinrich Khunrath (1560–1605) wrote of the shape-changing sea-god who, because of his relationship to the sea, is both a symbol of the unconscious as well as the perfection of the art.

From his transforming nature, and multifarious aspects comes our adjective “protean”. A “protean career” would embrace many human concerns.

Shakespeare uses the image of Proteus to establish the character of his great royal villain Richard III in the play Henry VI, Part Three, the prequel to his play Richard III. In Act III, Scene ii, Richard (not yet the king), boasts:

I can add colors to the chameleon,
Change shapes with Proteus for advantages,
And set the murderous Machiavel to school.
Can I do this, and cannot get a crown?
Tut, were it farther off, I’ll pluck it down.

    From Discover the Networks:

Founded in 1995, the Proteus Fund is set up not as a traditional foundation, but as a public charity. It takes money from donors who specify the precise groups and causes for which they want it earmarked, and in turn funnels the cash (minus a handling fee) to those recipients; this arrangement enables the donors to avoid (if they wish) being publicly associated with the groups being funded, which in many cases are extremely radical. Such transactions are called donor-advised funds.

Through this legal loophole, nonprofit entities can set up for-profit organizations and funnel money to them through PDF, since, by law, non-profits are not legally allowed to directly fund their own for-profit enterprises. Margaret Gage, who founded the Peace Development Fund in 1981, is the Proteus Fund’s President and Executive Director.

The Proteus Fund’s Board of Directors is composed of members who are affiliated with numerous leftist causes and organizations. For example, Tom Asher founded the Media Access Project and sits on the Board of the Center for Responsive Politics. Donna Edwards of the Arca Foundation founded the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Mike Lux of Progressive Strategies LLC, a political consulting firm, served as Senior Vice President for Political Action at People for the American Way. Labor and political organizer Cecile Richards is the senior advisor to Nancy Pelosi and sits on the Directors’ Boards of Progressive Majority, the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League (NARAL), and the national Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Byron Rushing, a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, is a South Africa rights activist and a Board member of the CarEth Foundation and Grassroots International. Frank Sanchez of the Needmor Fund co-founded the Chicano Youth Association in 1969 and institutionalized bilingual education in American schools. Selena Singleton of the TransAfrica Forum is an attorney who represents minorities in matters pertaining to civil rights, environmental justice, and housing segregation; she also serves with the International Women’s Democracy Center. Janet Shenk of the AFL-CIO is a longtime human rights activist and sits on the Board of the Arca Foundation. Margery Tabankin of Tabankin Associates is the director of the Streisand Foundation and Steven Spielberg‘s Righteous Persons Foundation. Robert Zevin of Zevin Associates was a founder or Board member of such leftist groups as Resist, Affirmative Investments, and the Tax Equity Alliance of Massachusetts. Dini Merz is a Program Director of the Proteus Fund’s Peace and Security program and of the CarEth Foundation, which is an arm of the Proteus Fund.

The Proteus Fund has several major grantmaking arms. Among these are the following:

    1) The Piper Fund strongly supports campaign finance reform. Regarding money as the root of all evil in democratic politics, this Fund gave $5 million from 1999-2003 to lobbying organizations and researchers dedicated to bringing about such reform. The Piper Fund is financed by the Arca Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Joyce Foundation, the McKay Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, the Solidago Foundation, the Stern Family Fund, the Columbia Foundation, the Changing Horizons Fund, the Open Society Institute(George Soros), the Ford Foundation, the Schumann Center for Media and Democracy, the Tides Foundation, the Jenifer Altman Foundation, the Compton Foundation, the Educational Foundation of America, the JEHT Foundation, the Lear Family Foundation, Working Assets, Funding Exchange, and many more.

    2) The State Strategies Fund (SSF) is a collaborative grantmaking initiative supporting state-level programs to increase minorities’ participation in political life, and to promote the passage of leftist legislative agendas and the election of leftist political leaders. This Fund pursues a multi-issue agenda that includes union organizing, LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) advocacy, civil rights, community organizing, economic justice, women’s groups, and environmentalist coalitions. Between 1999 and 2003, SSF gave more than $2 million to multiple state coalitions promoting campaign finance reform, “fair tax policy,” taxpayer-funded health care, and environmental extremism. It is funded by the Ford Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation, the Open Society Institute, the Unitarian Universalist Veatch Program, the Educational Foundation of America, and the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

    3) The Colombe Foundation seeks to create a more peaceful world through changes in American policy. These include the elimination of weapons of mass destruction, and a reduction in military spending accompanied by increased funding for social welfare programs and conflict-resolution initiatives.

    4) The Media Action Fund (MAF) uses aggressive advertising campaigns to promote leftist agendas. Between 2000 and 2004, for example, MAF gave more than $2 million to organizations that advocate radical environmental activism. Among MAF’s grantees are the Clean Water Fund; the Montana Conservation Voters Education Fund; the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance; the Rocky Mountain Energy Campaign; the Western Organization of Resource Councils; the Conservation Law Foundation; the Container Recycling Institute; Dakota Rural Action; Earth Day Network; the Partnership Project; the South Dakota Resources Protection Fund U.S.  Public Interest Research Group; ; the Conservation Law Foundation; Forest Ethics; Friends of Blackwater Canyon; LocalMotion; the Missouri Coalition for the Environment; the North Carolina Waste Awareness & Reduction Network; the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition; and the Sierra Club.

    5) The Security Policy Working Group (SPWG) seeks to “broaden and deepen the public discourse on what constitutes true security in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks.”  SPWG emphasizes “multilateral, cooperative approaches that lessen the need for, and use of, military force.” One SPWG member, an MIT research scientist, contends that “the Bush Administration has placed too much of its emphasis and budget on military solutions to the challenges of mass casualty terrorism.”

In addition to the aforementioned groups, the list of Proteus Fund grantees also includes, among many others, the Tides Center and Tides Foundation; Public Citizen; the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN); the CarEth Foundation; the Proteus Action Council; the Lear Family Foundation; the Progressive America Fund; the Center for a New American Dream; the Center for Community Change; Class Action; the Peace Development Fund; the Women’s Empowerment Network; the Spirit Rock Meditation Center; the Public Justice Foundation; MADRE; the Nonviolent Peaceforce; Coalition for DC Representation Education Fund; the Middle East Research and Information Project (MERIP); the Natural Resources Defense Council; the Environmental Media Services; the Environmental Coalition; the Citizen Action Fund; the Rock the Vote Education Fund; the Committee for Inter-American Human Rights; the Progressive Alliance for Community Empowerment; the Public Action Foundation; Protestants for the Common Good; the Center for Peace and Justice; and the Progressive Coalition.

Dodd Bill Hidden Target: Community Banks

    April 26, 2010

    by Capitol Confidential

Sen. Chris Dodd’s financial regulatory reform bill, on which the Senate is slated to take a cloture vote this afternoon, has been the subject of much criticism of late, primarily for what opponents say amounts to a de facto institutionalization of “too big to fail” with regard to the biggest power players in the financial sector.

However, Capitol Confidential has learned that there is another, equally troubling aspect of the bill that observers say is going unnoticed in the debate surrounding Dodd’s proposals: Its hammering of community banks.  Relatively small institutions compared to the names often cited in the news, community banks typically operate in small towns, urban neighborhoods or the suburbs.  Their remit usually involves funding small businesses that require credit in order to operate payrolls and to expand, and lending to families financing home purchases or college.   Many of those familiar with the banking industry, overall, say that community banks bore little to no responsibility, on balance, for the financial meltdown that occurred in 2008.  Nonetheless, an analysis of the Dodd bill indicates that if it passes, community banks will be subject to a whopping 27 new regulations that one individual who has worked with banks professionally and is closely tracking the legislation says “could threaten to put many community bankers out of business, thus reducing competition in the banking sector overall, and diminishing consumer choices.”

That individual further asserts that while the bigger, Wall Street banks will likely be able to adapt to the bill (though their efficiency and ability to compete internationally could take a knock), the community banks will not—potentially making the system more risk-prone, also.

At some community banks, staff already work with what can be 1,000 pages or more of regulation with which they must comply daily.  The Dodd bill would notably add to this, and observers say its 27 new regulations would, were the bill passed and signed into law, vastly increase administrative costs to banks, and diminish their ability to provide valuable customer service by focusing employees’ attention on compliance, rather than meeting customers’ needs.  One example of such new, burdensome regulation might be the requirement that banks ascertain upfront whether small businesses seeking loans are women or minority owned, and then handle that information in ways that could potentially prove cumbersome in terms of internal administration.  Another would be the requirement that banks itemize each loan according to 12 specific criteria, in addition to others that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) may deem appropriate.

I remain incensed at the sheer arrogance and brazen demeanor of the Obama administration providing a blank check on Christmas Eve to cover future losses of the failed institutions Fannie Mae (FNM: 1.29 +0.05 +4.03%) and Freddie Mac (FRE: 1.575 +0.055 +3.62%). Given the fact that this check has been issued, America deserves to know what exactly it is covering. Over and above a full and total exposition of these government sponsored entities, America is in a position to demand certain retributions. Let’s bang the drum and demand some answers, including:

    1. The current valuations of all of Freddie’s and Fannie’s holdings so America can fully evaluate those holdings relative to market prices.

    2. The current fees being paid for all services rendered.

    3. An independent audit.

    4. Why aren’t these stocks delisted immediately? To allow stock in these entities to continue to trade is a total mockery of a legitimate market.

    5. Clawback all bonus payments rendered to Franklin Raines, James Johnson, and Leland Brendsel, the executives at Fannie and Freddie who truly plundered these institutions.

    6. Immediately extinguish Freddie’s and Fannie’s contingency liabilities to Wall Street firms.

    7. How are we to know and appreciate that this blank check is not merely a conduit to deliver slush funds and hush money to every favored friend of the administration?

    8. Any market analyst who favorably opines on the housing market in light of this blank check is hereby rendered a total jackass.

Our pursuit of real truth, transparency, and integrity in our political and financial system took a major hit with the issuance of this blank check.

    End Note:

The financial institutions that should be heavily regulated are Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  It was through their manipulation of derivatives and selling toxic loans to banks was one of the causes of our financial downturn.

And while America wasn’t looking; on Christmas Eve 12-24-09 Fannie and Freddie were basically given a blank check to continue their assault on our financial sector.

    Are Progressives Practicing Sedition?

    April 26, 2010

The Progressives are having a hissy fit over the Immigration Bill Gov. Brewer signed a few days ago.

The Progressives have been accusing Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Rep. Bachman and others of creating the “S” word.

Well, let’s look at a definition of Sedition:

Sedition: Crime of creating a revolt, disturbance, or violence against lawful civil authority with the intent to cause its overthrow or destruction.

Okay, now go to OpenLeft.com and read this:

new method to stomp Arizona’s 1070 “In Public While Brown” law (HousesofProgress)

Vigils, rallies and press conferences against the bill are reaching a fevered pitch. Advocacy groups across the country, such as Amnesty International, Reform Immigration For America, NDLON, and the National Immigration Forum are joining groups in Arizona including the Border Action Network, the Puente Movement and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in denouncing the bill. A group of people are fasting until the bill is vetoed. PSA’s and two hotlines have been introduced to educate people about the bill and dispel some of the fear and panic created by its introduction in communities. The National Day Laborers Organizing Network (NDLON) is organizing a press conference outside the Department of Homeland Security HQ in D.C. to call on Assistant Secretary John Morton to denounce the bill, coming on the heels of demands by civil rights groups to end the 287(g) and other programs that mandate local and state police to enforce federal immigration law. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) is taking legal action against the bill if signed into law, arguing that it violates due process and Supreme Court precedents, urging Governor Brewer to recognize that-

Restore Fairness’ Condemnation of Arizona’s anti-immigrant bill goes National

We have 87 days left before the law comes into effect, we have 87 days to create enough pressure to stop it, or to make so many, big demonstrations that day to shut down the state, close its borders from the outside, end convention bookings and all the other ideas and plans to restore rights not just in Arizona, but to begin the drive to fight the drift to both racist reasoning, and its use for creating a police state.

    by: William Timberman

“close its borders from the outside, ” I am particularly  intrigued by this idea. Road blocks with protesters in suits stopping cars and asking for ID, warning that produced might not be, is not, enough to stop the drivers from being arrested and put in jail, and yes, found guilty.

Filling airports with people leafleting in lines for people going to AZ, going online on http://www.tripadvisor.com or http://www.lonelyplanet.com and letting people know that round ups are being done in that state and to avoid them.

But ending visits, stopping conventions, re-booking Union meetings out of state, avoiding companies based there are all good avenues to fight back.

This is where organizing, on the ground, make the calls, stand up at meetings, explain to potential supporters, get out the supporters for votes, insist in planning and make lists make lists make lists, is going to matter.

    That and discipline.

Dont you EVER cross a picket line, don’t you EVER book a meeting in Arizona till the paper this law is printed on is stomped into fertilizer.

    CalPERS Should Divest from Arizona

    Link

by Bob Brigham , Sun Apr 25, 2010 at 04:09:40 PM EDT

To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t expecting Arizona Governor Jan Brewer would sign SB 1070 on Friday. I knew the teabaggers wanted their racism codified into law, but “show me your papers or go to jail” was so fascist I just couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to declare a race war over such grounds. I was wrong.

As the messages to Boycott Arizona begin to fill my inbox and feeds, I wanted to escalate. My Mom’s side is Latino and I’m actually a lot darker skinned than my name might suggest. My first thought was that beyond the boycott, we also needed to apply pressure through socially responsible investment. That’s when I started thinking about the State of California’s role in helping end Apartheid by pulling money out of South Africa. Then I knew the move.

The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) has over $200 billion in investments and a history of activism.

A few years back, they charted a new approach towards investing in emerging markets, requiring countries to provide, “evidence of political stability, humane labor laws, a fair and functional legal system.” I want CalPERS to take the same approach to investments in Arizona companies and real estate holdings in the state. On all three counts, Arizona fails.

    ===============================

    End notes:

WHAT IS WRONG IN THIS PICTURE?

Here again the definition of Sedition:

Sedition: Crime of creating a revolt, disturbance, or violence against lawful civil authority with the intent to cause its overthrow or destruction.

There are laws on the books against illegal immigration (287g).

The State of Arizona is tired of waiting for the Federal Government to enforce laws against illegal immigrants crossing our borders on a daily basis.

As an aside:  California is on the verge of bankruptcy, YET CalPERS (California Public Employees’ Retirement System) has over $200 BILLION dollars in investments?

As Law abiding American Citizens, WE:

    1.  Carrying a driver’s license or State issued ID cards EVERY DAY.

    2.  When traveling abroad we have PASSPORTS.

    3.  When we are stopped for say speeding, we as American Citizens have to show Driver’s license, car registration and proof of Insurance.

SO: If American Citizens have to follow the rule of law; why should illegal immigrants be given a “pass”?

I am NOT against immigration; Just ILLEGAL immigration.

How do you think the illegal immigrants would be confronted in say Russia, China or North Korea?  Do you think they would come across the border and march in their streets demanding RIGHTS?

Massive civil disobedience is MORALLY NECESSARY to overthrow Arizona’s racist law

    by: Paul Rosenberg

    Sat Apr 24, 2010

Let’s be clear:  Arizona’s new anti-immigrant law is not just racist, and unconstitutional, it’s also dangerous to the law-abiding residents of Arizona.  Anything that makes people afraid to come forward and cooperate with the police investigating crimes makes it harder for law enforcement to do its job, and that makes it easier for criminals to do theirs.

At her press conference where she actually signed the law, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer said:

This bill, the “Support Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act,” strengthens the laws of our state.  It protects all of us, every Arizona citizen and everyone here in our state lawfully.  And it does so while ensuring the constitutional rights of all within Arizona remain solid, stable and steadfast.

That’s just a pack of lies.  And not just the part about constitutional rights.  All of it is a pack of lies.

Since 1979, the Los Angeles Police Department has operated under Special Order 40, which prohibits police officers from “initiat(ing) police action with the objective of discovering the alien status of a person.”  It was initiated by Chief Daryl Gates, who died just this past week. Gates had been called many things in his life, but “liberal” was not one of them. On April 9, The LA Times explained in an editorial:

The order was adopted in the late 1970s by then-Chief Daryl F. Gates, hardly a soft-on-crime liberal, who knew that the LAPD would be more effective if undocumented witnesses and victims felt free to speak with officers without fearing deportation. The order prevents officers from questioning people solely to determine their immigration status or arresting them solely for violations of immigration law. It does nothing to stop officers from arresting a violent suspect or calling in federal agents to investigate a person they believe illegally reentered the U.S. after deportation. It was good policy then and remains so today.

Special Order 40 is sound, sensible, effective and efficient police policy.  It was initiated by a hard-ass conservative police chief.  And it has worked for over 30 years–despite wingnut attacks based on lies and distortions (more on this below the fold).

On top of everything else, the Arizona law is clearly criminally stupid. Exactly what you’d expect from racist wingnuts.  It is guaranteed to make law enforcement less efficient and less effective in Arizona.  It is a pro-crime law. Period.

But what are we to do about it?  Wait for the terminally risk-averse Obama Administration to accidentally find its backbone?

I don’t think so.  I think we need a massive wave of civil disobedience to overwhelm the Arizona criminal justice system, and make it overwhelmingly obvious that this law is morally unacceptable and unenforceable in America today.  The only thing that gives me pause is the principle that I should not call for others to do what I am not willing to do myself.  Which puts me in sort of bind.  I have been arrested on principle before.  I made the sacrifice then, because it was one I could consciously and fullly take on.  If it meant two years–or possibly more–in prison to protest the Vietnam War at that time, I was willing to do it.  But that doesn’t count for anything now.  I can’t in good conscience be the one to lead this call.  But I can say it is morally necessary, and I will fully support anyone who is willing to commit themselves and call on others to do the same.  Waiting on the government and politicians to do the right thing is not sufficient, not when liberty, justice and equality are so viciously attacked.

    [snip]

The whole point of our Bill of Rights is to outlaw arbitrary and capricious state power, and protect the people against any such exercise of state power.  This law is nothing but arbitrary and capricious state power.  It’s not that the law is “unconstitutionally vague” as courts most commonly find when such issues are raised.  It’s not vague around the edges.  Its very core, its foundations are essentially and fundamentally vague to the point of being undefined and undefineable.

This is pure prejudice enshrined in law.  It is racism run amuck.  And it must be stopped by the same means that slavery was stopped, that Jim Crow was stopped: by a rising up of people of conscience, by those oppressed and those who stand with them, because they can do no other.
