AUSTIN, Texas — A governor’s spokeswoman says Gov. Rick Perry has been denied a meeting with President Obama when the president visits Fort Bliss on Tuesday.

Perry spokeswoman Katherine Cesinger says the Republican governor had asked to meet with the president on Tuesday to discuss border security. Cesinger said Monday that White House aides said the president would not be available for such a meeting.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday evening.

Perry was one of the first people the president saw when he stepped from Air Force One during an Austin visit on Aug. 9. On that occasion, Perry hand-delivered a letter to Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, warning about the “dire threat” from drug violence along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The White House apparently offered a consolation meeting to Texas Gov. Rick Perry after he was denied face time with President Obama on his trip to Fort Bliss Tuesday.

A governor’s spokesman said Perry’s request for a presidential meeting was rebuffed. Perry spokeswoman Katherine Cesinger said the Republican governor had asked to meet with the president on Tuesday to discuss border security. Cesinger said Monday that White House aides said the president would not be available for such a meeting.

But White House spokesman Luis Miranda said Perry “was offered but declined” a meeting on border security with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and counterterrorism adviser John Brennan.

“Today, the president is at Fort Bliss to honor the troops who so bravely serve our country, but if the governor wants to have a meeting about the border, the White House has made that possible,” Miranda said in a written statement.

Mike Bayer – Communist Agent in the Bernie Sanders Camp?

Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders may have a Communist Party USA agent in his camp.

The person in question is Mike Bayer, who is currently serving as Treasurer of Bernie Sanders’ Vermont Progressive Party.

The Senator from Vermont, is a self proclaimed socialist and proud of it.

As a student in Chicago, Sanders was active in the Young Peoples Socialist League and has a decades old relationship with America’s largest marxist organization, Democratic Socialists of America.

It was in conjunction with D.S.A. that Sanders formed, in 1991, the Congressional Progressive Caucus, now a more than eighty strong alliance of far left Senators and Congressmen.

Mike Bayer’s closeness to Senator Sanders, however I takes things to a new level. While Bayer is no longer the open communist he once was, there is evidence that he is acting as a spy on Sanders’ Party and may be be some kind of liaison man or agent-of-influence for the Communist Party.

Bayer has lived in Vermont since 1996, working as Chief Financial Officer of Vermont Legal Aid. He has been a leader in the leftist Vermont Progressive Party, since its earliest days.

Currently Bayer is running for the position of State Auditor of Accounts for Vermont, on the Progressive Party ticket. The position is currently held by Republican, Thomas M. Salmon.

Before moving to Vermont, Bayer was for many years, Indiana District organizer of the Communist Party USA and a regular contributor to the Party paper Peoples Daily World/ Peoples Weekly World.

Since working with Sanders’ Progressive Party, Bayer has downplayed his communism, but did attend the 2001, Communist Party USA 27th National Convention in Milwaukee.

He is almost certainly still a Party member today. Certainly the Party hasn’t forgotten Mike Bayer, or the regular updates he provides them on Progressive Party affairs.

While the Communist Party works mainly through the Democratic Party, in a few states they will work with influential third parties, which have a real prospect of electoral success. New York’s Working Families Party and the Vermont Progressive Party being the best examples.

According to a Communist Party USA report on the 2002 elections;

A more advanced aspect of political independence is pro-worker electoral formations outside the Democratic Party. A growing example is the Working Families Party, which has established itself in New York, doubled its vote in two years time, and is now expanding into Connecticut and other states. Election law in Connecticut does not allow petitioning candidates to run on more than one line, so the tactic is to run as many as 60 candidates for State Representative around the state with the goal of getting at least one percent of the vote and winning minor party status in those districts. Then in the next election, the Working Families Party can cross-endorse candidates in other Parties who adopt the Working Families program. Western Connecticut Labor Council president Blair Bertaccini will be one of those candidates.

In Vermont, going beyond Bernie Sanders , is the new Vermont Progressive Party, which received 10% of the vote for governor and won 4 representatives in the last election. Mike Bayer sits on their state committee.

Blair Bertaccini, incidentally, is a long time Communist Party USA member, who has been less vocal about his Marxism-Leninism, since becoming active in the W.F.P.

From a report to the National Committee of the Communist Party USA November 16, 2002;

The Progressive Party in Vermont ran Anthony Polina for Lieutenant Governor. He got 25% of the vote, up from 9.5% two years ago. He campaigned for a tax surcharge on the wealthy, replacing property taxes with broad-based taxes to fund public education, and a single payer health care system. He was endorsed by the Vermont AFL-CIO. The campaign was a collaborative effort with Bernie Sanders and inspired a high voter turnout. Mike Bayer reports that the lack of program by the Democratic candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor led to their defeat.

Note that Mike Bayer is reporting on V.P.P. affairs back to the highest body of the Communist Party USA.

On December 3 2006, People’s Weekly World readers celebrating the results of the Nov. 7 elections, with banquets and dinners in various places across the country.

In Connecticut, guests packed the New Haven People’s Center to “Carry the People’s Election Victories Forward”…

Clearly Mike Bayer is interested in more than reporting on Bernie Sanders’ people to the Communist Party. Bayer is interested in policy.

This is all Communist Party policy. It is also largely V.P.P. policy. Is Mike Bayer’s main responsibility inside the V.P.P. to ensure that the “Communist Party line” is adhered to?

Is it also to make sure that Bernie Sanders also pushes the appropriate “line” in the U.S. Senate and through the Congressional Progressive Caucus?

This is a key point. Modern American communism, is not about atom bomb spies, terrorists or bomb throwers. It is about achieving “social change” by getting the Democrats to adopt communist policies and selling them as their own to the American voter.

Revolution, by stealth, using the Democrats, Working Families Party and Vermont Progressive Party to promote communist programs, is the modern face of U.S. Marxism-Leninism.

Mike Bayer is ideally placed to assist with this process.

Does Bernie Sanders realize that he is working closely with a probable agent of the Communist Party USA? Its very hard to believe he doesn’t.

In November 1989 Sanders addressed the 10th national conference of the Communist Party front U.S. Peace Council - “End The Cold War Fund Human Needs” – in Boston, Massachusetts.

In 1997, Sanders co-sponsored H.R. 950, the Job Creation and Infrastructure Restoration Act. This Bill was introduced at the request of the National Labor Coalition for Public Works Jobs – which was led by members, or supporters of the Communist Party USA.

The Communist Party USA has strong ties to China, Cuba and other hostile powers. Is it of concern that a long time senior cadre of that Party is working in close proximity to a serving U.S. Senator?

Are you opposed to Obamacare or illegal immgration? You’re a racist. Are you opposed to gay marriage? You’re a homophobe. Did you oppose Elana Kagan’s appointment to the Supreme Court? You’re a sexist. After less than two years of complete Democrat control of government, there aren’t many Americas progressives haven’t accused of some sort of bigotry for simply having an opinion different from theirs. The politics of “hope” and “change” have devolved into exactly what those espousing them claimed they would end. Is this really Democrat’s plan to win votes in November?

Barack Obama campaigned under the banner of unity and ending the “politics of division.” But that banner was swiftly furled and the true banner of progressive politics began flying over our country. Progressivism leaves no room for debate or disagreement. To paraphrase former President Bush, to progressives you’re either with them or you’re with the enemy.

During the Obamacare debate, opponents were compared to opponents of civil rights legislation. The ethically challenged Congressman from New York, Charlie Rangel, said “The group that were in Washington fighting against the health bill and fighting against the President, [they] looked just like and sounded just like those groups that attacked the civil rights movement in the South.” Left-wing blogs ran with this mantra and agenda-driven media outlets like MSNBC dutifully followed. They still advance the lie that African-American Members of Congress were pelted with racial slurs as they walked to cast their vote, something even the New York Times has acknowledged there is zero evidence of.

The ends justify the means, no matter how sickening and divisive the means.

When a judge in California overturned Proposition 8, a ballot measure that defined marriage as being between one man and one woman which was passed by voters, these self-appointed champions of democracy cheered its undermining. Whatever your opinion on the issue, it was a rather ironic turn for people who use the word “democracy” as though they respect it.

Drilling Moratorium cripples Gulf Economy- Obama Watch- Business

The Gulf oil spill is delivering a crushing blow to coastal residents and businesses, but Washington’s response threatens to place additional hardships on the Gulf region that could jeopardize our national energy security.  In the wake of the accident, President Obama first halted work in the deep water Gulf and then suspended 33 existing deepwater projects. A temporary pause to inspect these deepwater drilling rigs was warranted; an outright ban will cripple the already struggling Gulf Coast community. Now that the BP well has been capped and a permanent solution to the leak is on the way, the president should re-evaluate his hasty and politically motivated decision to issue a deepwater drilling moratorium.

After a federal judge struck down the first moratorium, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar rushed to issue a second moratorium.  While less stringent in theory, this latest effort will be just as harmful to the Gulf Coast in reality. President Obama explained he wants to prevent another environmental disaster, but he neglects to address the economic disaster now facing the region – tens-of-thousands of Americans employed in the energy industry in the Gulf who could lose their jobs due to the moratorium, a number that will escalate if new drilling projects are not allowed to proceed.

Even worse, the president’s actions have now caught on with his foreign counterparts, as EU Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger told reporters after talks this week with oil companies that “a moratorium of new drillings [in Europe] would be a good idea.” With their prospects dimmed both here and abroad, energy companies  will have no choice but eliminate thousands of jobs – some permanently.

Goaded by powerful anti-energy interests and the national environmental lobby, some lawmakers are even pushing for a permanent ban on offshore drilling.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - Plans for foreign oil companies, some from India and China, to drill off the cost of Cuba are prompting calls from lawmakers to ease environmental restrictions that prohibit coastal drilling in most of the U.S., according to a report Tuesday.

At a time of rising soaring gasoline prices caused partly by a lack of supply, legislators are fuming that Cuba is opening up its continental shelf for oil and gas exploration while most of the U.S. continental shelf outside the Gulf of Mexico, which extends 200 miles from shore, has been off limits for drilling since the early 1980s, the New York Times reported.

Adding insult to injury, the Times said U.S. firms were invited to bid on the Cuban contracts, but were barred by the U.S. government due to the country’s longstanding economic embargo of communist Cuba.

“Red China should not be left to drill for oil within spitting distance of our shores without competition from U.S. industries,” Sen. Larry Craig, Republican of Idaho, told the Times.

Firms from Canada and Spain will also drill off the Cuban coast, the article said.

The United States Geological Survey estimates the Cuban deal involves 4.6 billion barrels of oil and 9.8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, according to the Times. The paper said that’s enough oil and gas to power the U.S. for a few months.

The paper also cited an Interior Department study that said the U.S. continental shelf contained 115 billion barrels of oil and 633 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. That would be enough oil to satisfy U.S. demand, at current consumption levels, for 16 years and enough natural gas for 25 years, according to the Times.

(Reuters) – Cuba’s oil industry wants to work with its counterparts in the United States and Mexico to promote safe drilling practices and avoid the kind of well blowout and spill seen recently in the Gulf Of Mexico, a leading drilling industry expert said on Wednesday.

Lee Hunt, President of the Houston-based International Association of Drilling Contractors, told Reuters during a visit to Havana he would like to see Cuba’s state oil company join the organization to be able to exchange information with its neighbors on drilling techniques, safety and regulation.

“Cubapetroleo (CUPET) is interested in joining and we have an interest in them being a member of the international drilling community,” Hunt said in an interview, after two days of talks in Cuba with local industry officials and regulators.

Cuba currently produces about 60,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd), all from onshore wells. It receives about 115,000 bpd from ally Venezuela on favorable terms.

The China-built drilling rig is expected to arrive in Cuban waters early next year and companies have begun preparations to drill once the Scarabeo 9 rig gets to the island.

Cuba has divided its share of the Gulf into 59 blocks, 21 of which are already under lease to seven companies.

Diplomats in Havana have said Malaysia’s Petronas is also planning to use the China-built rig. Venezuela’s state oil company PDVSA has said it plans to sink its first exploratory well in Cuba’s offshore next year.

Other companies with blocks there are Vietnam state oil and gas group Petrovietnam and Brazil’s Petrobras, while firms from Russia, China and Angola are in the process of negotiating exploration rights.

Obama Said to Consider Easing Educational Travel to Cuba

President Barack Obama may ease travel restrictions on Cuba, allowing more Americans to visit the island on educational and cultural trips, said a U.S. official who declined to be named because he isn’t authorized to speak on the subject.

Obama first loosened travel rules on Cuba last year, making it easier for Cuban-Americans to visit and send money to relatives on the Caribbean island in a bid to help “promote the freer flow of information,” according to a White House statement. The official didn’t give additional details on what the changes would be.

Current rules allow Americans to travel to Cuba on educational and cultural trips if they are students or employees at qualifying universities and meet a set of additional requirements, such as doing research toward a graduate degree. All Cuba travel must be approved by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. The broader travel ban is designed to isolate the Castro regime and keep hard currency out of the country.

Asked if the administration is considering easing the travel rules, Michael Hammer, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, said in an e-mail yesterday: “We will continue to pursue policies that advance the U.S. national interest and support the Cuban people’s desire to freely determine their country’s future.”

Wider Travel Ban

A move to allow increased educational travel may encourage lawmakers to repeal a wider ban forbidding American travel to Cuba if Obama signals his support for the measure, said Ted Piccone, a Latin American specialist at the Brookings Institution, a policy research organization in Washington. Co- sponsors of bills in both houses of Congress to end the 47-year ban have said legislation may pass this year.

“The Democrats need cover from the White House,” Piccone said yesterday. “If they can’t do it now they’re never going to do it.”

After watching the Restoring Honor rally, as a Centrist, and after viewing with friends of all political views, we did not agree on all aspects of the rally, BUT we ALL did agree that:

1.  America’s MORALITY has been corrupted.  When the news is more about Lindsay Lohan’s court date and rehab vs. the threat of nuclear war possibly started by Iran; where are our priorities?  George Soros and his view of an Open Society with free drugs, sex and liberalism is against core principles of ALL of those gathered.

2. America’s VIRTUES are under attack.  The Muslims are told to LIE to the infidels.  Our own Congress LIES to their constituents.  Our own President lies to the American citizens; the Obamacare bill now exposed shows it is NOT in America’s best interest or the interest of small business owners.  If Obama can’t get his agenda passed, he circumvents Congress with Executive Orders.  We all agreed on the demise and control lost by our own Congress.  Tell the TRUTH.

3.  That FAR Left Liberals do NOT like or covet the TEN COMMANDMENTS?

4.   We shall NOT TAKE what we did not earn.  ALL of us agreed that we would hold a job, no matter how menial to be able to buy what is needed; revamp and recycle old items and if we could NOT afford it, we would not buy it.

5.  We donate our time and used clothing to the children and adults in our community.  NOT always through a church (Some in this group do not attend church) and by INDIVIDUAL Choice.

6. WE judge people by their CHARACTER, their ACTIONS and their RESOLVE. Victims cannot be victims without the WILLINGNESS to be victimized.

In the end the group agreed that America is truly in trouble.

That we cannot rely on our current government to save America.

Americans will have to save America.

When Americans feel betrayed/downtrodden; pick yourself UP, STAND UP dust yourself off……keep Morals and Virtues as a daily duty and vote the Progressives OUT of office.

Sen. Thomas Carper (D-DE), one of the sponsors of the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, told GovInfoSecurity.com that the Senate is considering attaching the bill as a rider to a defense authorization bill likely to pass through Congress before the mid-term elections.

“It’s hard to get a measure like cybersecurity legislation passed on its own,” Carper said.

Carper, along with Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), introduced the bill in June in an effort to combat cyber-crime and the threat of online warfare and terrorism. Critics say the bill would allow the president to disconnect Internet networks and force private websites to comply with broad cybersecurity measures. Future US presidents would have those powers renewed indefinitely.

The bill (PDF) states that Internet service providers, search engines and other Internet-related businesses “shall immediately comply with any emergency measure or action developed” by the Department of Homeland Security.

But many observers point out that that doesn’t necessarily amount to a “kill switch” — and, in fact, the president already has the power to shut off the Internet. As Time magazine points out, the Communications Act of 1934 grants the president the power to shut down wire communications during a time of war, and the Internet is now recognized as a wire communication medium.

Yet the proposed law authorizes the president to declare “cyber emergencies” — potentially expanding the president’s power to shut down the Internet to times when the US is not technically at war.

A summary (DOC) of the bill issued by Sen. Lieberman’s office describes the powers granted to the president:

The Act will provide a responsible framework, developed in coordination with the private sector, for the President to authorize emergency measures, limited in both scope and duration, to protect the nation’s most critical infrastructure if a cyber vulnerability is being exploited or is about to be exploited. The President must notify Congress in advance about the threat and the emergency measures that will be taken to mitigate it. Any emergency measures imposed must be the least disruptive necessary to respond to the threat. These emergency measures will expire after 30 days unless the President orders an extension. The bill does not authorize any new surveillance authorities, or permit the government to “take over” private networks.

The bill “authorizes the president to declare ‘cyber emergencies,’ without spelling out what would happen next,” states an editorial at the Scranton Times-Tribune. “It is certain that the Internet will be a prime means of communication during an emergency. Given the history of the government over-stepping even constitutional constraints during such times, the bill’s sponsors should retool it to be more specific.”

As November looms on the fast-approaching horizon, Liberal Democrats continue to appear positive about their potential outcome with voters. Recent articles surfacing in left-leaning rag-mags indicate that Americans are about to be blasted with cost estimates on the Iraq war as Dems begin drumming up ideas for garnering votes. That assessment by the media, however, is far too simplistic, far too transparent; voters will dissect any attempts at cost analysis by the “spend-aholics”-in-charge without batting an eye. No, there’s a MUCH more sinister plot afoot…

Know why we’re going to hear a lot from Dems about Iraq? Because there’s a “Treaty” still being fought over in Congress. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry is about to break out a real stinker! The Dems will accuse the Right of being “anti-peace”; charging Republicans of fighting with them over the Left’s attempts to bring an end to the arms race with Russia (to date, the Republicans refuse to support the treaty (1) because Obama may have already nullified it and (2) because it is sorely underfunded).

Lest America forget, Russia built and armed (this past Saturday) Iran’s Bushehr reactor. This loading of fuel rods into Tehran’s Armageddon machine was in defiance of the U.S., and based in great deal on the Obama administration’s back-peddling on the “new START treaty”. Russia’s backing of Iran—understandably, and rightfully so—received highly negative critical attention in the media, beginning nearly two weeks before the final arming of the reactors took place (a move that signaled the point of no return in Iran’s march towards becoming a nuclear state.) With Russia and Iran now partners, and the Republicans continuing their fight against the “Treaty” between Washington and Moscow, the Democrats in Congress feel they have an extra card to play. This is why you continue to see Biden as flippantly buoyant as he chugs around the country boasting of impending upsets.

Further evidence of a calamity to come between the parties over this “Treaty” surfaced last week when an article made it abundantly clear that this issue was FAR from settled. That article contained an interesting, albeit not fully researched, comment:

“Similarly, many are concerned that, unlike previous agreements, New START appears not to limit certain types of Russian missiles. The Obama administration insists that both sides intend for such missiles to be covered by the treaty.”

Notice the word: INTEND.

That’s perfect: INTEND.

This little baby, this “Treaty”, has already been dissected by the minds at Heritage Foundation. And their findings conclude, unequivocally, that Obama conceded on the missile issue. Why? Obama had his own plans for an ICBM program. Less than three weeks after signing the yet-to-be-ratified “Treaty” (in April of 2010), Obama and his administration restarted the Rumsfeld-era intercontinental ballistic missile program. As soon as Russia found out—through a conveniently “leaked” article at NYTIMES.com (among other sources)—they backed off and went full bore in their support of Iran, finishing work that had languished for decades even in the face of increased sanctions. And by the time the final check cleared the Moscow bank for the nuclear fuel rods, Bushehr was good to go.

In classic Taqiyya fashion on the part of Obama, this move by Russia diverted attention; attention that somehow never fully gained traction. While the world paid attention to Russia, France and Iran, Obama and his fellow Anti-Semites began work on a project that could send a nuke-ready ICBM “straight up the middle of the Persian Gulf”, to quote that now famous (infamous?) NYTIMES.com article.

Interesting: how far is Israel from the mouth of the Persian Gulf?

For attempting to do that which the Obama refuses to do (his job under the US Constitution—not George Soros and friends), the tyrant has now turned Arizona and the twenty-two other US States trying to protect their citizens over the patently corrupt (Obama’s kind of organization) United Nations as “human rights violators.”  Now disregarding the US Constitution and US law entirely—and getting away with it—The Obama and his worldwide anti-US Marxist minions have begun to divvy up the booty from that which was once America.  Note:  Despite our protests and marches, Obama believes he silenced We-the-People long ago.  Didn’t Hugo Chavez affect something similar in Venezuela?  But, let’s face the truth, folks.  Even Chavez didn’t try to destroy his OWN country.  But, considering his true birth place, neither did Obama.

In his boldest move yet to destroy OUR country, Dictator-in-Chief Obama has now decided to bring the full force of the world against those who oppose their own slavery at his and his masters’ hands.  And the overseers at the United Nations are applauding The Obama’s move.  As the people of the United States of America are—in greater and greater numbers each and every day—supporting Arizona and other states for working to protect US citizens from the now unstopped marching phalanges of illegal immigrants composed of drug cartel members, Central American gangs, Hezbollah, other middle eastern terrorists and millions of others who sap the resources of sovereign States (entering via our southern border), the tyrant believes he has found a way to stop the States and us.

Now “elevating” himself to the level of an Islamic Mufti, Obama has effectively issued a fatwa against Arizona and every other US State that opposes their own demise.  Obama has issued an, heretofore, unprecedented report to the “UN High Commissioner for Human Rights” (a bad joke considering the organization itself) outlining his carefully crafted and manufactured ‘horrors’ the USA has committed against humans (I suspect that means freedom and liberty are two of them), he has given full sway to the UN to go after any US States that do not comply with the tyrant’s (and soon to be King of the World?) commandments.  Suffice it to say, the UN is more than pleased to do so!

AFL-CIO Joins Communists, La Raza, ACLU, Other Unions in Voter Registration Drive

Looks like the AFL-CIO is no longer even trying to hide the fact that it no longer sports a traditionally American political outlook. The labor union has announced that it is joining a voter registration drive called One Nation Working Together. This coalition is filled with some of the most extremely leftist groups in America today including the ACLU, Enviro extremists, La Raza, Code Pink, various anti-war groups, and the Communist Party USA.

This new move by the AFL-CIO finds hearty support from the People’s World newspaper, a publication dedicated to communism and the “direct descendent” of the communist Daily Worker newspaper.

The AFL-CIO joins the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), The Center for American Progress, Green For All, USAction, and many others. The effort is being headed by United for Peace and Justice.

Like all these sort of left-wing efforts there is never a full list posted anywhere of what organizations have joined any particular effort. These leftist movements always try their hardest to hide from the public the extremist groups that have joined their program. The only way to piece together a partial list of participants is to look over the many news reports and catch little bits of information here and there. One wonders why they are so afraid to list what organizations have joined them?

Jeff Dunetz, though, does yeomen’s work tracking down a list of steering committee members of the UDPJ, the main sponsor. On that list we can see some hardcore, left-wing extremists. Names on that list includes among others:

• Jackie Cabasso — Western States Legal Foundation
• Steve Carlson — Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice

These are the sort of extremists that the AFL-CIO is joining teams with. As Dunetz asks, “I wonder what their rank and file would say if they announced they were joining together with Marxist, Communist, and progressive groups…?”

Christiane Amanpour just sealed her victory as recipient of my Obama Parrot of the Week Award.

Readers will recall that at that ritzy fund-raiser in San Francisco, candidate Obama explained the attitudes of poor rural Pennsylvanians in terms of “bitter” people who “cling” to their religion and values.  Check out Amanpour’s analysis of those attending the Beck rally and other similar events, and see if it doesn’t sound eerily similar.

CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR:  Most of the speeches, which were about religion, about God, about the title of the march, which was Restoring Honor, which meant about the military, and every time that the speakers spoke about members of the military at war in Iraq and Afghanistan there were huge cheers. And it was about—as speaker after speaker kept saying—restoring patriotism and proud-to-be-an-American.  I point that out because I think that it was gets such a big cheer from people. And perhaps when we try to figure out why there’s such a huge number of people coming to these rallies, in a period of time when people feel such anxiety, such anger, such sort of worry about what’s going on around them—the economy and the rest—they come here and they hear a feel-good message, and that they respond to.

Sounds like Amanpour sees religion and patriotism as . . . the opiate of the masses.

Alveda Celeste King, a pro-life activist and niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, gave a powerful and moving speech to the 500,000+ patriots gathered in Washington DC today at the Restoring Honor Rally. Today was the 47th anniversary of her uncle’s speech at the Lincoln Memorial. Like her uncle before her, she also had a message.

Alveda King told the crowd, “I too have a dream!”
This was a terrific speech!

Much of the MSM is horrified — horrified! — by the Beck rally at the Lincoln Memorial today.  Well, we’ll know whether they’re right when we look at what the speakers have said.  In the end, that’s what matters . . . not how they’re characterized by their political adversaries in the media and elsewhere, but by the message they spread.

And let’s hope that anyone on the left who protests the site or the timing of the rally has likewise spoken out about the need for “sensitivity” when it comes to the Ground Zero mosque (which, incidentally, may be eligible for funding with New Yorkers’ tax dollars).  It would be nothing if not hypocritical to argue that Imam Rauf should be able to exercise his First Amendment rights without regard to Americans’ sensibilities while condemning Beck’s supposed “insensitivity” in exercising his.  Bob Herbert, care to comment?

If I were part of the liberal elite, I wouldn’t be as worried by the historic/racial overtones of the rally.  I’d be worried about what it symbolizes: A growing understanding on the part of regular Americans that they should (and need) no longer heed the supposed “wisdom” and “moral authority” of a liberal elite that has nothing but contempt for them.
