Red Democrats File 1 – Lynn Woolsey Sponsored Communist Party Event
Several members of the approximately eighty strong, far left Congressional Progressive Caucus have documentable ties to the Communist Party USA, or its front organizations.
These include, but are certainly not limited to, Caucus vice chair Dennis Kucinich, Caucus founder and Senate member Bernie Sanders and house members Corrine Brown, John Conyers, Danny Davis, Rosa DeLauro, Barney Frank, Jesse Jackson, Jr. Barbara Lee, Charles Rangel, Bobby Rush and Maxine Waters
Here’s another for the list – none other than Progressive Caucus co-chair and California 6th district Rep. Lynn Woolsey.
Below is a scan from the Communist Party’s newspaper People’s Weekly World from September 11 1999, advertising a People’s Weekly World Gala Banquet. Woolsey is listed as a co-sponsor of the event:

Of those listed above Woolsey, identified Communist Party members or supporters include Cassandra Lopez, Juan Lopez, (identified on the advertisement as “chair, N. Calif. District CPUSA” Bob Martin, Coleman D. Persily, Michael Parenti , Avelino Ramos,
Nell Ranta, Gail Ryall, Anthony Toney and Doris Brin Walker.
Also listed on the left portion of the advertisement were long time communist front supporter Rep. Barbara Lee and more well known communists, including Arnold Becchetti, Marilyn Bechtel, Delmer Berg , Libero Della Piana and Herb Kaye (aka) Herb Kransdorf.
Lynn Woolsey is an influential Democrat. She serves on several Congressional Committees, including;

Once Lynn Woolsey would have immediately be flagged as a security risk, for openly supporting a Communist Party fund raiser.
Today, the Communist Party supports Cuba and China and strongly opposes the U.S. war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Why then, would a loyal U.S. congresswoman be prepared to co-sponsor a Communist Party event?

Lynn Woolsey:
Woolsey belongs to the Progressive Caucus in the House of Representatives. Her voting record, according to Americans for Democratic Action, is between 95% and 100% on the left side of legislation.
During her congressional career, Woolsey has voted:
- against the development of a national missile defense system;
- against the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2001;
- against the post-9/11 anti-terrorism measure known as the Patriot Act;
- against allowing the U.S. government to use electronic surveillance to investigate suspected terrorist operatives;
- against a bill permitting the government to combat potential terrorist threats by monitoring foreign electronic communications which are routed through the United States;
- against an October 2002 joint resolution authorizing U.S. military action in Iraq;
- against the establishment of military commissions to try enemy combatants captured in the war on terror;
- in favor of withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq immediately and by a preordained date;
- against President Bush’s 2007 decision to deploy some 21,500 additional U.S. soldiers in an effort to quell the violent insurgents in Iraq;
- in favor of a proposal to expedite the transfer of all prisoners in the Guantanamo Bay detention center;
- against requiring hospitals to report (to the federal government) illegal aliens who receive emergency medical treatment;
- against the Real ID Act, which proposed to set minimal security requirements for state driver licenses and identification cards;
- against separate proposals calling for the construction of some 700 miles of fencing to prevent illegal immigration along America’s southern border;
- against a proposal to grant state and local officials the authority to investigate, identify, and arrest illegal immigrants;
- against major tax cut proposals in September 1998, February 2000, March 2000, July 2000, May 2001, May 2003, October 2004, and May 2006;
- against separate welfare reform bills designed to move people off the welfare rolls and into paying jobs;
- in favor of prohibiting oil and gas exploration in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR); and
- against a proposal to fund offshore oil exploration along the Outer Continental Shelf.
Woolsey, who co-chairs the Democratic Caucus Task Force on Welfare Reform, fought against the 1996 welfare-reform act.
In September 2000 Woolsey sponsored H.R. 4892, “The Scouting for All Act,” which called for a revocation of the congressional charter held by the Boy Scouts of America since 1916. “We’re not saying the Boy Scouts are bad,” Woolsey explained. “We’re saying that intolerance is bad” – a reference to the fact that the Boy Scouts do not wish to include homosexuals either as members or as troop leaders.
On December 2, 2003, Woolsey wrote a letter (on her official congressional stationery) on behalf of Stewart Pearson, the son of a senior aide in her office. Pearson had recently pleaded guilty to rape. In the letter, Woolsey asked the presiding judge to consider mitigating circumstances and to impose a light sentence. The judge ultimately sentenced Pearson to the maximum of eight years in prison. When reports of Woolsey’s letter became public, she apologized for having written it.
*******In December 2007 Woolsey, along with 8 fellow Democrats, voted against a resolution to formally recognize the importance of “Christmas and the Christian faith.” Earlier that year, by contrast, she had voted to “recognize the commencement of [the Islamic holy month] Ramadan” and the Hindu religious holiday Diwali.*****

DSA hosted CPC
Would it surprise you to know that the Democratic Socialists of America hosted the CPC on its website?
For this latter piece of information we turn to a May 24, 2008, post at Theodore’s World blog:
Until 1999, DSA hosted the website of the Progressive Caucus. Following a subsequent expose of the link between the two entities, the Progressive Caucus established its own website under the auspices of Congress. But DSA and the Progressive Caucus remain intimately linked. All 58 Progressive Caucus members also belong to DSA.
The CPC’s “own website” for the current 71-member CPC is an extension of that maintained for its co-chairwoman, Rep. Barbara Lee (Calif.) — cpc.lee.house. The other CPC co-chairwoman is fellow Californian, Rep. Lynn Woolsey.
The CPC-DSA relationship was confirmed by Trevor Loudon in his November 12, 2006, article The Socialists Behind the “Progressive Caucus”:
As the Congressional Progressive Caucus is the most powerful and radical group in the new US Congress, it might be useful to find out who is behind the organisation.
The most obvious backers of the CPC are the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
Loudon cited the Wikipedia article on the DSA:
During the 1990s, DSA began looking to the Religious Right’s activism within the Republican Party as a model for how the Left could gain a greater foothold within the Democratic Party…
The result was the “Congressional Progressive Caucus, a group of 65 Democratic legislators in the U.S. House of Representatives anchored by US Rep. Bernie Sanders, a DSA sympathizer….DSA’s website included commentary supportive of the legislative caucus throughout much of the late 1990s.
