Attention Occupiers: You Are Part of The World’s Richest 1%…

This might come as quite a surprise to the Occupiers, the majority of which are self-hating white liberals.

(Motley Fool) — About a year ago, The Wall Street Journal ran an article describing the plight of Americans struggling to rebuild after bankruptcy. The article highlighted Linda Frakes, who filed for bankruptcy after accumulating more than $300,000 in credit card debt.

“Ms. Frakes is now unemployed, living on $330 a week of unemployment benefits and odd jobs,” the Journal wrote. Frakes “struggled to rent a home and buy a car after bankruptcy. A used-car dealer ultimately gave her financing on a Jaguar.”

No one’s hardship should be belittled. Becoming unemployed or losing a home aren’t just financial problems. They’re social and emotional problems that strike at people’s sense of being.

But things always need to be kept in perspective. Only in America, I thought to myself after reading the article, can someone be driving a Jaguar and portrayed as living in an impoverished underclass. Context is crucial with these issues.

The recent Occupy Wall Street protests have aimed their message at the income disparity between the 1% richest Americans and the rest of the country. But what happens when you expand that and look at the 1% richest of the entire world? Some really interesting numbers emerge. If there were a global Occupy Wall Street protest, people as well off as Linda Frakes might actually be the target.

In America, the top 1% earn more than $380,000 per year. We are, however, among the richest nations on Earth. How much do you need to earn to be among the top 1% of the world?

$34,000.

That was the finding World Bank economist Branko Milanovic presented in his 2010 book The Haves and the Have-Nots. Going down the distribution ladder may be just as surprising. To be in the top half of the globe, you need to earn just $1,225 a year. For the top 20%, it’s $5,000 per year. Enter the top 10% with $12,000 a year. To be included in the top 0.1% requires an annual income of $70,000.

Wednesday, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee teamed up with seven progressive Democratic Party candidates for the House of Representatives to occupy Congress by delivering petitions from thousands of members of the 99 percent to Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH). The petition asked Boehner to pass the Jobs Act and to stand with the 99 percent, not the richest 1 percent of Americans.

“We need people in Congress who have the right priorities. Who don’t let Wall Street destroy Main Street,” said Franke Wilmer, who is running for an at-large seat in Montana, as the candidates gathered to enter the capitol. “Workers didn’t fire themselves and senior citizens didn’t cause this recession.” When the seven candidates got to Boehner’s office, Brittany Brammell, Boehner’s press secretary, did not allow them in but did promise to take the petitions. She did not tell them when Boehner would take up the jobs bill/

One of the secret weapons the corrupt mainstream media uses in their never-ending quest to Palace Guard for the left is context. For example, when it came to the Tea Party, the MSM was notorious for amplifying a single incident (that was usually a lie) and using it to attempt to smear and define an entire movement. This is what you do when you want to quickly take out a political enemy.

The MSM’s contextual game changes, however, when their desire is to strengthen a movement and give it credibility and room to grow. By dutifully reporting individual incidents but not reporting on the growing scope and size of Occupy Wall Street lawlessness, the MSM is willfully covering up the violence, vandalism, and anti-Semitism that truly does define this movement.

Moreover, by intentionally keeping the pieces of this story scattered, the MSM is allowed to have their cake and eat it too. No one can accuse them of not reporting these incidents, but by choosing not to bring the pieces together, the MSM ensures the least amount of public relations damage is done to the Occupiers.

What I’ve collected below is far from comprehensive but still shows over 75 incidents of sexual assault, violence, vandalism, anti-Semitism, extortion, perversion, and lawlessness. [Now updated to 100 incidents]

The MSM could easily tell the story of how this violence-prone movement is becoming an increasing threat to our society. After all, my research below is the result of nothing more than Twitter and Google. Among others, The New York Times, Washington Post, Politico, and the LA Times have willfully chosen not to use the resources at their disposal to give the public an honest look at this growing menace. In their partisan minds, truth doesn’t trump agenda.

The list is in no particular order. Like the Occupiers themselves, it’s unruly, disorganized, messy and not focused solely on the nation’s media centers. The movement is spreading across America and bringing with it their outrageous and appalling behavior.

Painfully, the nation has watched, during the last 48 hours, as police departments in  Oakland, Atlanta and elsewhere used excessive force against thousands of peaceful demonstrators.

The disturbing scenes of women, children, seniors and even disabled people running under clouds of tear gas and being hit by flash grenades and rubber bullets are reminiscent of attacks in the middle of the last century against civil rights and antiwar demonstrators. The scenes are hard to stomach, also, because they look too much like what is happening today in the streets of Damascus, Syria.

The vicious crackdowns are an assault on democracy and they endanger the public safety. In Atlanta and Oakland both, as in cities elsewhere, many of the demonstrators who were attacked are people who have lost their homes, their jobs or the vital services they require just to keep going every day.

We applaud statements by the leadership of the AFL-CIO and by unions and their allies all over the country that have condemned these attacks. We urge the elected officials in the cities involved to call a halt to the violation of the democratic rights of their people.

Our best wishes and prayers go out to Iraq War veteran Scott Olsen who was critically injured in Oakland after being hit by a police projectile at the rally in that city on Oct. 25.

Opponents of the movement would like nothing more than to reduce Occupy Wall Street to a fight between the police and several hundred who want to spend the night out on the streets.

Right on the heels of this terrible news:

A Taliban suicide bomber rammed a van into an armored NATO bus Saturday in Kabul, killing 13 American troops and four Afghans, U.S. and Afghan officials said, in the deadliest attack on coalition forces in more than two months.

The explosion, which occurred as the convoy was passing the American University, sparked a fireball and littered the street with shrapnel. Heavy black smoke poured from burning wreckage at the site.

The armored personnel carrier, known as a Rhino was sandwiched between of a convoy of mine-resistant military vehicles traveling on a four-lane highway frequently used by NATO forces in a southwestern section of the city.

NATO said 13 service members were killed, but a U.S. official confirmed they were all Americans. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

We have been at war with the Taliban since 2001 after they, specifically Mullah Omar, were involved in 9/11. Either indirectly prior to the attack or in the help he gave al-Qaeda after the attack.

And now Obama wants to negotiate with him?

Washington is ready to negotiate with Taliban leader Mullah Omar and now regards his involvement as crucial to the prospects for peace in Afghanistan, Hillary Clinton has said.

Her comments been taken as a significant shift in American policy from moves to divide the Taliban-led insurgency and isolate Mullah Omar, the man who sheltered Osama bin Laden as he plotted the September 11 attacks, to an acknowledgement of his leadership.

It follows the disclosure earlier this month that American officials had met leaders of the Haqqani Network, the powerful Taliban faction blamed for some of the most devastating attacks on American and Nato forces in Afghanistan, including last month’s attack on the US embassy in Kabul in which seven were killed and 19 wounded.

Earlier this week the faction’s commander Sirajuddin Haqqani warned Washington that only the Quetta Shura, led by Mullah Omar, could negotiate a peace deal and that his fighters would not be divided from its leadership.

In an appearance before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Mrs Clinton said the United States would continue to “fight, talk and build” in Afghanistan and Pakistan to “test whether these organisations have any willingness to negotiate in good faith”.

Lately the media have treated us to the Kafkaesque absurdity of millionaire entertainers, and billionaire radicals, vociferously supporting protesters carrying placards saying “Eat the Rich.” Hypocrisy, thy name is “Liberal.” Democrats would be an endless source of bemusing entertainment were they not so self-righteously dangerous. Faux—conservative Republicans are no laughing matter either. Link LinkLink

All of this would be bad enough, but our federal government, which should be acting as a watch-dog and preventing such perversions of capitalism, is one of the worst culprits in this never-ending shell-game of Ponzi schemes, kick-backs, and “tax and spend” policies. I say “never-ending,” but it is all about to end one way or another is it not? Unless you are willfully ignorant or apathetic, you are no doubt aware that it is all unraveling around us—on a global scale. Time is of the essence. Link Link Link

So to cut to the chase, I will skip over the multitudinous troubles that America currently faces, and get to the main point of this article—the status of the “Restore the Constitution” rally being held in Washington DC this upcoming Veteran’s Day, 11/11/11. Link

First, let me say that I am heartened by the positive response that the rally has garnered from around the country. A group from California writes that they are bringing “the world’s largest instamatic camera” to take photos of the event. A mother in Michigan writes “There are many folks from MI attending this event. I will be there standing tall with these brave veteran’s and [other patriots] on 11/11/11 with my four children.” The response has been positive and passionate.

Opposing “we the people” is the giant corporate/banking/political machine that is grinding away our freedoms day by day. They give out Nobel Peace Prizes, hand out Oscars, and anoint our leaders. They are The Powers That Be, and they despise “we the people” and feel that we are stupid, clueless, and powerless. Are they right? I guess we’ll find out on 11/11/11. Link

Unlike the Soros-funded astro-turf productions put on by The Machine, “we the people” do not have access to mega-money and fancy media pulpits. We make do with what we have, and pass the word along amongst ourselves. We hear it through the grapevine, and by coconut telegraph; we send out batch emailings, and share the truth via radio blogs and websites. The word may at first filter out slowly, but filter out it does.

B/Gen Charles Jones (USAF Ret.) recently pointed out that “It is apparent, based on many indisputable facts; that individual liberty, possession of property, national sovereignty, national security, and freedom will not survive if the present political power base prevails.”

In a similar vein, M/Gen. Paul Vallely (US Army Ret.) has proclaimed that “We cannot permit the current leaders in the White House, the halls of Congress and many judicial courts to continue in their efforts to lead us down this road of Progressive Socialism and chaos.”

When asked how people were reacting to news of the 11/11/11 rally, Col. James Harding (USAF Ret.), one of America’s most decorated pilots replied, “Every red blooded American we reach is on board, except those who will never be on board—leftists who have a very anti-American vision for America….” Link 

(I am left to ponder where the US Navy and Marine Corp officers are on this. Are they waiting to see which way the wind blows before deciding whether or not to honor their oaths to defend the Constitution? Let me say that if disagreements over the statements made in “A Declaration to Restore the Constitutional Republic” have left anyone sitting on the fence; know that you do not have to agree with every point in the Declaration. There is no need to concur with every item—it is enough to understand that America is in grave danger on many fronts, and that the time for decisive action is now. An influential Muslim adviser to the White House who has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood has succeeded in canceling a meeting between President Obama and the leader of the persecuted Maronite church in Lebanon, according to the Beirut news agency el Nashra

The Arabic-language report cited an unnamed U.S. source who said Dahlia Mogahed, “the highest adviser on Arab and Islamic Affairs in the State Department,” sought to block a White House meeting with Patriarch Beshara Rahi, according to a translation by blogger El Cid at BigPeace.com.

The report said the move heeded a request by top leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt who want the U.S. to back the Islamist Sunni movement opposing Iranian Shiite influence in the region.

Maronites number about 1 million in Lebanon and more than 10 millions worldwide. About 1.5 million are in the U.S.

Along with her role on the White House Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, Mogahed is a member of the advisory council of the Department of Homeland Security. She has testified before the Senate on engagement with the Muslim community. She is senior analyst and executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, where she led major surveys of Muslims worldwide that routinely concluded the vast majority of Muslims are moderate.

Mogahed was a leading voice in the Leadership Group on U.S.-Muslim Engagement that issued a 153-page advisory report calling for dialogue with Hamas and engagement with opposition parties in Egypt, including the Muslim Brotherhood.

The U.S. director of national intelligence, James Clapper, drew attention in February when he characterized the Muslim Brotherhood as “largely secular.”

The Brotherhood, however, which was banned under Egypt’s Mubarak regime, states in its charter that it is an “international Muslim Body, which seeks to establish Allah’s law in the land by achieving the spiritual goals of Islam and the true religion.” Furthermore, the prosecution of the Hamas-financing scheme in Texas two years ago presented evidence of the Brotherhood’s aim to destroy Western civilization from within and establish an Islamic society under the rule of the Quran.

Mogahed, who is executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, was asked about a 2005 Gallup survey of Muslim women entitled “What Women Want – Listening to the Voices of Muslim Women.” Mogahed’s Gallup unit conducted 8,000 face-to-face interviews with women in eight predominantly Muslim countries and reported that many of those women wanted the law to be based on sharia.

Mogahed said the hijab was not an issue for the women, and that they were most interested in facilitating women’s rights and various good-government issues – which in their minds was congruent with sharia.

This would be unsettling enough if it were not also for Obama’s latest appointee. The 44th president has just appointed Azizah al-Hibri to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom. Al-Hibri believes that sharia law is superior to American law. Yet, al-Hibri is only one of the pro-sharia adherents that Obama has placed in influential positions since he became president. Dalia Mogahed was one of the earliest appointees and as Nonie Darwish has written, “[t]he empowerment of Radical Islam under the Obama administration” is extremely disturbing. 

Last year, Obama appointed two devout Muslims to Homeland Security. Obama’s record concerning Islamic terror was alarming from the beginning of his term and it has only become more entrenched. Congressman Keith Ellison aka Keith Hakim, who converted to Islam, is already in place in Congress. His connections to CAIR are troubling.

One of the places where Barack Obama scored big points on John McCain in 2008 was in casting himself as a squeaky-clean outsider and McCain as a Washington swamp-dweller surrounded by lobbyists.

“They will not work in my White House,” Obama often intoned of lobbyists. But, over time, dozens of former lobbyists came to work for the administration. As Washington Examiner lobbyist lacerator Tim Carney observed, this prompted Obama to adopt a new phrasing of the old pledge: “We’ve excluded lobbyists from policymaking jobs.”

What Obama meant was that he had turned away many lobbyists, but that becomes clear only after parsing the phrase. He didn’t say “all” or “every,” so the statement was technically true, if very misleading.

And so it is with Obama fundraising. The Obama campaign has long touted the fact that registered lobbyists are not permitted to give money to the campaign or bring their besmirching presence to any of the commander in chief’s frequent fundraisers.

The campaign, though, has long had a work around for these folks. After the president clears the room or before he arrives, the Democratic National Committee can set up another fundraiser in the same spot and ushers the check-wielding lobbyists through the back door. That money can help build the president’s ground forces, run attack ads on Republicans and fund state offices, but the Obama campaign can still technically say that the president himself doesn’t accept money from lobbyists.

But an even neater bit of legalism comes on the definition of what a “lobbyist” is. The president won’t take money from registered lobbyists, but those who are “strategic advisers” to clients hoping to have an influence on “government affairs” are as welcome as they can be.

One of the biggest failures of the ethics effort in Washington is that being a registered lobbyist has become passé.

Yes, the staffers and mid-level folks who ferry paperwork back and forth between associations and Hill hearing rooms or who seek regulatory rewrites on abstruse agency issues are registered, photographed and placed on something akin to Washington’s sex-offender registry.

It’s a list nobody wants to be on, in part because of Obama’s own campaign rhetoric, but also from decades of weasely practices by lobbyists and politicians. Nobody in either party ever considering running for office wants to have “lobbyist” on their resume. That’s why defeated politicians like former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle take jobs with law firms that have lobbying practices and act as advisers to lobbying clients but don’t register as lobbyists, per se. They can peddle influence but don’t need to go in the black book as long as they are not doing the shoe-leather work, which they wouldn’t do anyway.

Obama provides another incentive to Democratic influence sellers to stay off the books with his fundraising rules.

The New York Times reports today that at least 15 of these unregistered lobbyists are among the ranks of Obama’s most important donors, big givers who then go raise more money from others. They are known in Washington as “bundlers,” and so far they have added more than $5 million to the president’s re-election campaign.

Drawing the ire of Democrats, First Lady Michelle Obama will attend a Houston fundraiser on November 1, at the home of a former Enron executive. John Arnold, billionaire and former Enron trader, is part of an organization pushing to convert public pensions — including teachers, police, firefighters and others — to 401(k)-style plans.

Politico reports:

Gayle Fallon, president of the Houston Federation of Teachers, called the 401(k) proposal “very frightening for teachers.” She noted the nose dive many retirement plans took in the stock market in 2008, saying, “What if I was retired and that happened?”

“My people supported Obama big-time in 2008,” Fallon said. “This is not helping.”

President Obama has made support for teachers a centerpiece of his push for the American Jobs Act. He also has the support of the National Education Association.

The pension battle also is happening in Texas, although it’s not clear that Arnold is involved or helping to finance it. The Texans for Public Pension Reform want a constitutional amendment eliminating public pensions in the state in favor of a new system — like a 401(k), according to the Austin American-Statesman.

Meanwhile, Arnold’s support for the California pension campaign has Houston Democrats questioning why the Obama camp would risk such an alliance.

The Obama campaign told Politico that Arnold is a supporter and said the Nov. 1 fundraiser, where tickets start at $10,000, is still set to take place.
