Alinsky-affilated group gets $56 MILLION Obamacare grant in Wisconsin [Common Ground]

============

====================

From Freedom Post:

Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson responded to the release of the first eight grants/loans under the Obamacare created Consumer Oriented and Operated Plan (CO-OP) program today.

The CO-OP program was established under the Obamacare law to put into place one federal government selected group in every state that is supposed to provide an insurance alternative to those few companies that remain after the imposition of the law.

These grants/loans reek of political payola as one group, the Saul Alinsky-affiliated, Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative of Wisconsin was formed in August, 2011 just three short months prior to applying for the taxpayer money. In true, Rules for Radicals fashion, Obama’s administration found this group worthy of receiving $56,416,000 in taxpayer largesse,” Wilson said.

Common Ground is an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation, a group the radical Saul Alinsky foundedas reported by the Journal Sentinel in Milwaukee.  “Only the most naïve would believe that this $56 million injection of money into the political charged atmosphere in Wisconsin is anything more than an attempt to buy votes in favor of the public employee recall election of Governor Scott Walker and to tip the balance in this important swing state in November,” Wilson continued.

There are no lengths that Obama won’t go in his attempt to use Chicago-style politics to drive his election bid, and this $56 million to a group with no track record and dubious connections is just one more outrage,” Wilson added.

The rules governing the grants were issued on July 20, 2010 by Obama’s Health and Human Services Department and in those rules the CO-OPs were projected to result in a 35-40 percent default rate.

Other groups receiving grants are the Freelancers CO-OP of New Jersey, Freelancers CO-OP of Oregon, Freelancers Health Service Corporation (based in New York), New Mexico Health Connections, Montana Health Cooperative and Midwest Members Health (Iowa and Nebraska.)

According to Politico Pro, a private subscription news service, the CO-OPs have been termed government funded “venture capital for health care” by the executive director of the Freelancers Union Insurance programs. Ironically, the Freelancers programs have come under fire over the years for inefficient operations and a variety of difficulties regarding member coverage.

The CO-Ops will be able to offer health plans starting on January 1, 2014.

  1. I have been observing Common Ground for three years, and it’s one of the most rigorously nonpartisan organizations in Wisconsin. It has stayed clear of the controversial recall of Governor Scott Walker, no small achievement in a state where virtually everybody has picked a side,

    ==================

    Mr. Horwitt:

    I appreciate your comment; however from someone that posts at HuffPo (LEFT leaning publication) and lauds Alinsky like you do, one cannot interpret anything other than partisan hack.

    Even your own book,Let Them Call Me Rebel: The Life and Legacy of Saul Alinsky shows that you are one that either sympathizes with or supports Marxism.

    The last sentence of your post at HuffPo was this: “Indeed, it is a blueprint and a success story that deserves to be repeated — and, one would hope, promoted by the Obama Administraton.”

    Common Ground is an AFFILIATE of the Industrial Areas Foundation:

    The following quote is from your own article titled: “Alinsky: More Important Now Than Ever”:

    “The scale of the I.A.F.’s work today–there are some 50 church-based, interfaith and interracial organizations stretching from East Brooklyn to the East Side of Los Angeles–is steadily approaching Alinsky’s unfulfilled dream of a large network of “Peoples’ Organizations” that would provide tens-of-thousands of ordinary working and modest-income Americans with a measure of power to shape decisions that affect their lives and communities.”

    Oh, and then there’s Mark Fraley, Common Ground’s “Lead Organizer,” or, as The Warrior puts it, a “professional organizer.” According to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Fraley “served as the first Lead Organizer for Action In Montgomery (AIM), one of the first suburban organizing projects of the IAF, from 1998 to 2005.”

    It continues [emphasis added]:

    His efforts focus on building a multi-faith, multi-racial, economically diverse network of congregations committed to engage in the “public life.” In doing this, he works with congregations, unions, community organizations and other civic institutions to identify and develop leaders, to create and conduct issue campaigns focused on the priorities of the leaders involved and to teach the political strategies to make these campaigns successful.

    Mr. Fraley began his work with the Industrial Areas Foundation as a leader with West Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, DE, in 1995. He became an Organizer with the IAF in 1997.

    Lastly, Common Ground is led by a “professional organizer” who has logged over 15 years experience working with the IAF.

    ************
    IAF is not a grassroots network; its local affiliates are created as the result of careful planning by its national leadership. According to the Rev. Johnny Youngblood, a former leader of the New York IAF local known as East Brooklyn Churches: “We are not a grassroots organization. Grass roots are shallow roots. Grass roots are fragile roots. Our roots are deep roots.”

    IAF describes itself as “non-ideological and strictly non-partisan, but proudly, publicly, and persistently political.” As onetime IAF organizer Arnold Graf has stated:

    “In places like San Antonio and Baltimore, we are as close to being a political party as anybody is. We go around organizing people, getting them to agree on an agenda, registering them to vote, interviewing candidates on whether they support our agenda. We’re not a political party, but that’s what political parties do.”

    Similarly, Arizona’s IAF local — known as the Pima County Interfaith Council — is officially a Political Action Committee whose mission is “the collection and exercise of political power and influence.”

    So will you continue to say that Common Ground is Non-Partisan? Will you say Common Ground exhibits Conservative Values or Economic and Social Justice values?

  2. Romantic poet’s line 11 is wrong re: the group formed in “August, 2011, just 3 months…..” The group that organized this effort was formed in 2008, over 3 years prior to the submission of the loan application. This is documented and preserved in meeting minutes. Having been an angel investor involved in several other startups during my business career, this was the most professional of all of them. Otherwise, thank you for the comments.

    Randy:

    From Common Grounds Healthcare site:

    http://www.commongroundhealthcare.org/pdf/Common%20Ground%20Healthcare%20Launch%20Release.pdf

    “The establishment of Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative comes after more than three years of research on possible solutions to the challenge of affordable health insurance in the region. A team of small business, community and health insurance professionals worked tirelessly to listen to the voice of a community that has seen health insurance premiums increase some 113 percent over the past nine years. After the lengthy review, the team identified funding options from the Affordable Care Act, and submitted the appropriate application in 2011.

    Did you ever study Gramsci?

    =============================
    From Marx to Lenin, Gramsci & Alinsky

    Excerpts from The Keys of this Blood by Malachi Martin, 1990 [734 pages]

    Obama’s Ideological Father: “Gramsci… organized the Italian Communist party in 1921…. Since this was four years after the Russian Revolution, Gramsci assumed Italians would welcome a Bolshevik convulsion of their own. But it didn’t happen…. He found three explanations: Christianity, nationalism and charity. …the way to set the stage for a Marxist revolution was in coming to grips with these three conditions….

    The first stratagem was the assault on Christianity by arguing religion should not inform or be employed in public discourse. Gramsci realized that if religion were confined to private worship, its hold on Italians would dissipate….

    Second… Gramsci contended Italians were part of a grand global mission….

    Last… Gramsci engaged in efforts to persuade Italians that the way, the only way, to express humanitarian concern for the poor or those left behind as the detritus of capitalism is through a government that can be benevolent….

    “Obama… has suggested overtly and tacitly that religion should be a matter relegated to private worship outside the confines of public life…. [Through] his proposal to deny tax deductions for charitable gifts, government is being converted into the only public charity.

    Moreover, the transfer of wealth in the stimulus package and the increased tax burden on the most productive element of society will inevitably decrease incentives and expand the size and influence of government….. Our leaders may not identify themselves as Gramscians and may even mock the designation, but make no mistake: Gramsci’s DNA is in their bloodstream.”

    Notes on Saul Alinsky and Neo-Marxism:

    Alinsky’s tactics were based, not on Stalin’s revolutionary violence, but on the Neo-Marxist strategies of Antonio Gramsci, an Italian Communist. Relying on gradualism, infiltration and the dialectic process rather than a bloody revolution, Gramsci’s transformational Marxism was so subtle that few even noticed the deliberate changes.

    Like Alinsky, Mikhail Gorbachev followed Gramsci, not Lenin. In fact, Gramsci aroused Stalins’s wrath by suggesting that Lenin’s revolutionary plan wouldn’t work in the West. Instead the primary assault would be on Biblical absolutes and Christian values, which must be crushed as a social force before the new face of Communism could rise and flourish. Malachi Martin gave us a progress report:

    “By 1985, the influence of traditional Christian philosophy in the West was weak and negligible…. Gramsci’s master strategy was now feasible. Humanly speaking, it was no longer too tall an order to strip large majorities of men and women in the West of those last vestiges that remained to them of Christianity’s transcendent God.”

    “Obama learned his lesson well. I am proud to see that my father’s model for organizing is being applied successfully beyond local community organizing to affect the Democratic campaign in 2008. It is a fine tribute to Saul Alinsky as we approach his 100th birthday.” –Letter from L. DAVID ALINSKY, son of Neo-Marxist Saul Alinsky

    =====================

    What lies behind this confrontation is a decades-long assault on the Christian religion, the Catholic Church and its “Culture of Life” in particular, which are regarded by modern-day Marxists as a major impediment to their plans for a complete takeover of American – and global – institutions. These Marxists are guided by Italian Communist Antonio Gramsci, whose writings were introduced to the United States in the mid-1950s by Carl Marzani, a publisher and Soviet KGB agent whose publishing house was subsidized by the KGB. Marzani published The Open Marxism of Antonio Gramsci in 1957. 2

    Gramsci’s Marxist theory of cultural revolution stressed that dominance over the existing order in the West, including religion, was rooted in education, the media, law, and a mass culture of beliefs, values, and traditions. He said that it was through these elements that the “ruling class” exercised mind-control or “hegemony” over ordinary people. Hence, to overturn the existing order and “Marxize the inner man,” one must create a subversive program of “counter-hegemony” against its supporting culture. The war against the existing culture would leave nothing outside of the struggle, especially Christianity, to negate the established modes of thought and ways of doing things.

    Christianity is considered a prime target in preparing the way for a “Marxized America,” since religion, as an independent center of societal values, stands in the way of creating a new culture based on what is deceptively called “social justice” and “change.” Religion, in the Gramsci view, is the foundation for the Western values of individual liberty, private property, and the traditional family, and must be abolished in order for the new communist society to emerge.

    ==========================

    Major elements of American organized labor have imported the alien doctrine of Antonio Gramsci as a guiding light for its socialist ideological struggle against the traditional American way of life. For American progressive-socialist-marxist syndicalists, labor unions are a tool for use in transforming capitalism into a society run by working people who are guided secretly by agents among the leadership.

    It should not be surprising, therefore, that organized labor in the United States has shifted its main focus from the worker and his/her needs to progressive-socialist-marxist politics. For union leadership, their efforts are all about power—power for themselves, social power, and political power. Five U.S. labor unions stand out from their efforts of making socialist politics possible at the mass level by applying the imported ideals of Italy’s Marxist Antonio Gramsci: AFL-CIO, Service Employees International Union (SEIU), American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), National Education Association (NEA), and American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

    Gramsci understood that a revolutionary undertaking in a bourgeois society like the United States could proceed only from a sound “philosophical base” and an “ongoing political involvement.” According to editor Bernie Horn’s commentary in the “Progressive Agenda for the State 2008,” which was prepared by the radical Left’s Center for Policy Alternatives, “most Americans are progressive on most issues.” But, Mr. Horne adds, “most Americans also support traditional conservative principles—limited government, lower taxes, free markets, and personal responsibility.” The way out of this conundrum, he suggests, is to alter the balance of power by espousing “an attractive progressive philosophy.” That is a socialist philosophy. Since “progressive” is but a euphemism for “socialism,” the Left once again promises a full blast of political denial and deception, propaganda and disinformation in “framing the future.”

    Two major influences have helped shape these policies over the years: Antonio Gramsci’s cultural transformation formula and Saul D. Alinsky’s radical community organizing methods.

    Several radical Leftist groups are dedicated to bringing the progressive-socialist-marxist message to prepare Americans for socialist governance. One of the most important radical organizations dedicated to peddling socialism to Americans at the community and municipal level is the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), and it has close relations with organized labor. ACORN was founded by Wade Rathke, who organized draft resistance for the Students for a Democratic Society in the 1960s.

    Barack Obama was a community organizer for the progressive-socialist-Marxist ACORN before becoming a practicing lawyer, entering politics, and running for President.

Relying on gradualism, infiltration and the dialectic process rather than a bloody revolution, Gramsci’s transformational Marxism was so subtle that few even noticed the deliberate changes.

    “The means-and-ends moralists, constantly obsessed with the ethics of the means used by the Have-Nots against the Haves, should search themselves as to their real political position. In fact, they are passive — but real — allies of the Haves…. The most unethical of all means is the non-use of any means… The standards of judgment must be rooted in the whys and wherefores of life as it is lived, the world as it is, not our wished-for fantasy of the world as it should be….” pp.25-26

    Notes: Apparently, Michelle Obama referred to these words during her Democratic National Convention speech:

    “She said, ‘Barack stood up that day,’ talking about a visit to Chicago neighborhoods, ‘and spoke words that have stayed with me ever since. He talked about ‘The world as it is‘ and ‘The world as it should be…’ And, ‘All of us driven by a simple belief that the world as it is just won’t do – that we have an obligation to, fight for the world as it should be.”

    Do you wonder who — or whose values — should determine what “the world… should be?”
