Despite Closing Chapters, ACORN Declares National Organization Lives On

Confirming what Republicans have been alleging for weeks, the community activist group ACORN plans to release a letter in the next few days declaring that the national organization is alive and well despite closing its local chapters, the New York Times reported.

“You will continue to hear from ACORN — in the mail, on the Web, and in the media,” reads the letter, a draft of which was provided to the newspaper.

“And we need your continued support to counter the vicious anti-family, anti-minority, anti-immigrant attacks of the Republican right,” the letter adds.

According to the letter, the group will continue working for health care reform, immigration reform and affordable housing, the newspaper said.

The letter says in many of the states where ACORN’s local chapters closed, 16 new, independent but allied organizations have been formed to continue grass-roots organizing, the newspaper reported.

The letter will be sent to about 120,000 members on ACORN’s e-mail list and to tens of thousands of dues-paying members, the newspaper said.

ACORN announced last month that it is closing after a series of undercover videos last year showed its employees offering tax advice to a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute, tarnishing the group’s reputation. After the videos were released, Congress voted to block any federal money to ACORN.

ACORN’s board decided to close state affiliates and field offices by April 1, with some national operations continuing to operate for at least several weeks before they shut down for good.

But Republicans have insisted that the move was part of a scheme to continue operating under a different name and receiving taxpayer money.

California Rep. Darrell Issa, the top Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, released a report on Thursday that he says proves ACORN is not disbanding. His report  included details of a recent business transaction between ACORN and a California affiliate that broke away this year and changed its name in a bid to start anew.

“ACORN is attempting to rebrand itself without instituting real reforms or removing senior leadership figures that need to be held accountable for wrongdoing,” Issa said in a press release. “These newly renamed organizations are like career criminals who adopt aliases without changing their criminal lifestyles.”

George Soros’ Unholy Alliance with ACORN

What if a corrupt far left billionaire got together with a corrupt but effective grassroots group in an effort to radically change America ? That’s exactly what’s happening between George Soros and ACORN. Think of ACORN as instruments of George Soros grand plan. Soros wants to elect far left candidates, pass universal health care, props up the unions among many liberal ideological goals. Think of ACORN is the tool of implementation of his ideology, or at least a tool. On top of this, every policy which Soros uses ACORN to implement also helps President Obama. That’s the stakes in this unholy alliance.

For instance, ACORN has an affiliate named Project VOTE. It’s an organization that specializes in GOTV campaigns. Of course, the scam is that this group only goes into areas of the sort of candidate that Soros likes. So, while Project Vote does in fact do voter registration drives they do them almost exclusively in poor, African American neighborhoods. In other words, they would only do voter registration in neighborhoods that would back candidates that Soros would also back. Of course, Soros would never give money to ACORN directly. In fact, here, one of his own affiliates Democracy Alliance, gives money to Project Vote, itself an ACORN affiliate.

Whenever Soros does business it’s like this.

The reason for this is that the world that both Soros and ACORN inhabit is a maze of tax codes. 501 (C)3, 501 (C)4, and Soros favorite 527 among dozens. Each has its own rule for disclosure. The more tax benefits a non profit organization the more it has to disclose. By both Soros and ACORN creating multiple affiliate organizations it’s nearly impossible to track the money. As it moves from one affiliate to another eventually outside folks aren’t allowed to see all their records.

This way all sorts of shenanigans can go on without enough of a paper trail to prove it. There are stories that have reported that Soros was behind, what they call a rigged recount and he used ACORN in just such a way to do it in Minnesota for Al Franken. Of course, it goes without saying that Franken accounts for the 60th and filibuster proof vote in the Senate

Another way that Soros uses ACORN is in the area of universal health care.

Here, the two form an alliance along with several other far left groups called Health Care for America Now. A Politico story recently characterized HCAN as “the groups that represent the base of the Democratic Party”.on the issue of health care.

One of the biggest donors in HCAN is the Tides foundation. That’s another Soros affiliate. Meanwhile ACORN is one of a group of more than a dozen different organizations that created HCAN. HCAN runs as a 501 (c)4.

Here are all the principles involved in creating this organization.

ACORN, AFL-CIO, AFSCME, AFT, Americans United for Change, Campaign for
America’s Future, Center for American Progress Action Fund, Campaign for Community Change, Children’s Defense Fund Action Council, Communications Workers of America, International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace & Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW), MoveOn.org, NAACP, National
Council of La Raza, National Education Association, National Women’s Law
Center, SEIU, UFCW, USAction, Women’s Voices, Women’s Vote and Working
America.

(Of course, you should notice other liberal icons in this group like La Raza, the SEIU,and Moveon.org) This group is now organizing advertisement campaigns against wavering Democrats like Mary Landrieu. They hold rallies, organize town halls, and make phone calls among many different other support activities in order to get universal health care passed. (four minutes into this video in front of HCAN, Congress Woman Jan Schakowski admits that the goal of universal health care is single payer)

Meanwhile, the guy that runs the Tides Foundation is a gentleman named Drummond Pike. He’s close personal friends with Wade Rathke.

Wade Rathke was the long time CEO of ACORN who was removed last summer because he covered up the embezzlement of his brother Dale. When this embezzlement was first made public, Wade turned the embezzlement into a loan and then sold said loan to Pike. As such, ACORN no longer owned the paper on what was owed. It’s one of the perks for ACORN of having wealthy and powerful friends. It’s no different than the quid pro quo they got from Bruce Ratner, owner of the Nets, to build a new stadium in Brooklyn.

Soros is also a supporter of the unions through his involvement with the SEIU. The SEIU contributes funds to Soros linked organizations, does GOTV activities, and any other grass roots activites for liberal causes.

Of course, the local New Orleans 100 SEIU is run and was created by Wade Rathke. Yes, that’s the same Wade Rathke that used to run ACORN.

Furthermore, ACORN members often belong to the SEIU as well.

The SEIU often uses ACORN to organize Alinsky like demonstrations in order to pressure hospitals, grocery stores, and other places of business to unionize.

Obama Loophole = Justice Department Says Acorn Can Be Paid for Pre-Ban Contracts. Rep. Issa Blasts Action.

Note here:  The Justice Department has used an (?possible scapegoat) assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel to squirt out this news.

Did you also notice that the Washington,D.C. cronies like to send out unsavory news on a Friday?

At end of blog is Rep. Issa’s reaction!

From the New York Times:

Justice Department Says Acorn Can Be Paid for Pre-Ban Contracts

November 27, 2009

By CHARLIE SAVAGE
WASHINGTON — The Justice Department has concluded that the Obama administration can lawfully pay the community group Acorn for services provided under contracts signed before Congress banned the government from providing money to the group.

The department’s conclusion, laid out in a recently disclosed five-page memorandum from David Barron, the acting assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel, adds a new wrinkle to a sharp political debate over the antipoverty group’s activities and recent efforts to distance the government from it.

Since 1994, Acorn, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, has received about $53 million in federal aid, much of it grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for providing various services related to affordable housing.

But the group has become a prime target for conservative critics, and on Oct. 1, President Obama signed into law a spending bill that included a provision that said no taxpayer money — including money authorized by previous legislation — could be “provided to” the group or its affiliates.

A Housing and Urban Development Department lawyer asked the Justice Department whether the new law meant that pre-existing contracts with Acorn should be broken. And in a memorandum signed Oct. 23 and posted online this week, Mr. Barron said the government should continue to make payments to Acorn as required by such contracts.

The new law “should not be read as directing or authorizing HUD to breach a pre-existing binding contractual obligation to make payments to Acorn or its affiliates, subsidiaries or allied organizations where doing so would give rise to contractual liability,” Mr. Barron wrote.

The deputy director of national operations for Acorn, Brian Kettenring, praised Mr. Barron’s decision.

“We are pleased that commitments will be honored relative to Acorn’s work to help keep America’s working families facing foreclosure in their homes,” Mr. Kettenring said.

Mr. Barron said he had based his conclusion on the statute’s phrase “provided to.” This phrase, he said, has no clearly defined meaning in the realm of government spending — unlike words like “obligate” and “expend.”

Citing dictionary and thesaurus entries, he said “provided to” could be interpreted as meaning only instances in which an official was making “discretionary choices” about whether to give the group money, rather than instances in which the transfer of money to Acorn was required to satisfy contractual obligations.

Since there are two possible ways to construe the term “provided to,” Mr. Barron wrote, it makes sense to pick the interpretation that allows the government to avoid breaching contracts.

Moreover, he argued, requiring the government to cancel contracts with a specifically named entity — “including even in cases where performance has already been completed but payment has not been rendered” — would raise constitutional concerns best avoided by interpreting the law differently.

The Constitution prohibits “bills of attainder” — legislation intended to punish specific people or groups. Acorn has filed a lawsuit arguing that the statute banning the government from providing it money amounts to a bill of attainder.

Founded in Arkansas in 1970, Acorn describes itself as the nation’s largest grass-roots community organizing group. It provides financial services to poor and middle-income families, conducts voter registration drives, and advocates for higher minimum wages and more affordable housing.

Conservatives have long complained about Acorn’s voter drives in poor neighborhoods, citing instances in which workers fraudulently registered imaginary voters like Mickey Mouse. Acorn has argued that it is the real victim of such incidents, which its employees have often brought to the attention of the authorities.

Criticism of Acorn escalated in September, when two conservative activists released videos they had recorded using secret cameras of Acorn workers in several cities. The activists had posed as a pimp and a prostitute seeking financial advice. Instead of raising objections, the Acorn employees counseled the couple on how to hide their illicit activities and avoid paying taxes.

Republican blasts ACORN reprieve

Excerpt:

But Representative Darrell Issa, the top Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said “the bipartisan intent of Congress was clear — no more federal dollars should flow to ACORN.”

“It is telling that this administration continues to look for every excuse possible to circumvent the intent of Congress,” Issa said in a statement. “Taxpayers should not have to continue subsidizing a criminal enterprise that helped Barack Obama get elected president. The politicization of the Justice Department to payback one of the president’s political allies is shameful and amounts to nothing more than old-fashioned cronyism.”

*** Remember Obama was the lawyer for ACORN in their trial against Citibank during this CRA fiasco that led to the economic meltdown****

1.  So Obama, Bauer and Eric Holder possibly had a meeting to conjure up this “provided to” idiocracy kind of in the fashion of Clintonian “it depends on what the definition of is is.”

2.  We knew that Obama would NOT let his ACORN buds down.

3.  Bauer, Obama’s own lawyer against the birthers is now on his way to being the Chief Legal Counsel for the White House.

We will see word manipulation from now until Obama leaves office.

Black Panther charges against voter intimidation dropped by Holder.

KSM being brought to New York for trial.

ACORN now approved to be continually funded by our government.

ACORN is SEIU is Obama.

With Obama’s background/previous connections; did you actually expect anything different?

How ACORN Hides Behind Fake Names

By Warner Todd Huston

October 9, 2009

Many states have ways to look up the businesses, organizations and people with whom the state does business. Illinois has such a service on the Secretary of State’s website.

In Illinois there is a way to search the folks the state does business with on a page titled Corporate/LLC Search / Certificate of Good Standing. There you can input the name of a corporation or LLC and find out the address of its offices, its registered manager’s name, etc.

Sadly, this feature is not easy to use. The problem is you have to know the actual name of the corporation you are looking for. Of course, if you don’t really know what you are looking for you just cannot find anything useful.

The problem with the Illinois search system is that groups like ACORN register hundreds of different shell corporations to hide behind. They register them to their workers and their directors and then they offer them to government as a vendor or organization for the state’s use. Naturally, state funds  flow like water into ACORN’s coffers as a result.

Other states have easier ways to search their state records. In the state of Louisiana, for instance, one can search by a person’s name. On the Louisiana site you are not limited to the name of the corporation like you are in Illinois so it is a bit easier to find vendors and corporations that are approved to work with the state. (Louisiana mainpage, or go to the search only page)

On the Louisiana site I typed in the name of ACORN founder Wade Rathke to see what corporations and LLCs he had registered with the state. I also tried Dale Rathke, his embezzler brother, to see what he had registered with the state. The results are amazing.

What I found were dozens of different shell corporations registered to Wade and Dale Rathke all of which have the potential of reaping thousands of dollars from the state of Louisiana. The same thing is happening in every state of the union and it isn’t just Wade and Dale doing this. ACORN employees at all levels are doing this in order to hide the fact that they are registering ACORN agencies.

Progressive Coalition Comes Out for ACORN

Progressive Coalition Comes Out for ACORN

By Carol D. Leonnig

Leaders of several progressive community groups stood up Thursday to defend ACORN, the community organizing group under fire and under threat of losing all federal funding, after some of its employees were caught on videotape appearing to give advice on how to conceal a prostitution business.

ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, has hired a lawyer to investigate its internal operations in the wake of the firestorm that followed a handful of undercover You Tube videos. They aired last month and were filmed in ACORN’s housing counseling offices in Maryland, New York and California, and prompted the House and Senate to separately pass bans on future funding for the group.

The liberal groups urged that Congress step back and allow an independent inquiry to be completed before rushing to punish ACORN. They said the organization’s work, in helping low-income families get health care, stave off foreclosure, and find jobs, is critical in this recession particularly.

“Nonprofit organizations that stand up for the powerless in our society and that provide vital services in our communities have never been needed more than they are today,” said Nan Aron, president of the Alliance for Justice. “As ACORN takes steps to get its house in order, Congress should take a deep breath and give this process time to work.”

Deepak Bhargava, executive director of the Center for Community Change, said the significant turmoil within ACORN over finances and an internal embezzlement scandal must be weighed against its other contributions.

“It has won ground-breaking victories for low income communities on issues such as housing, community reinvestment, predatory lending, and living wage standards,” he said. “The world is a better place because of the work done by ACORN. For these reasons, ACORN deserves a chance to review and reform its organizational systems and processes.”

Wade Henderson, president of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, urged Congress and taxpayers to “keep things in perspective” and noted that ACORN swiftly moved to retrain employees after the embarrassing videos aired but has historically been a critical resource to poor communities.

“ACORN is not the scourge that some right-wing shouting heads would like the public to believe,” he said. “It’s an organization with a valuable mission that has made some missteps and is trying valiantly to correct them. We support ACORN’s efforts to put its house in order. And ACORN deserves the chance to earn the public’s trust once again.”

Reid blocks ACORN probe

Tracking abuse by political allies could be ‘distracting’

September 25, 2009

ACORN — the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now — is stinking up Washington.

And this is far more significant than if a suspiciously large number of operatives for a purely “private” outfit had been found systematically bending and breaking the law, because ACORN receives and spends taxpayer money — lots of it — and had carried the imprimatur of official partnerships with the IRS, the Census Bureau … the kind of “cred” that in the political world comes only from “who you know.”

Yes, ACORN has friends in high places — friends who are still stonewalling attempts to trace where all that tax money went … perhaps because they know who still has cookie crumbs all over their hands.

It didn’t start with those undercover videos made by a couple of independent filmmakers posing as a prostitute and her pimp, visiting various ACORN offices around the country and getting helpful advice on how to hide their income and “qualify” for a tax-subsidized mortgage to set up a house of ill repute, declaring three of their dozen (albeit imaginary) underage illegal immigrant prostitutes as “dependents.”

That was just a final shoe dropping loudly enough that the problem could no longer be ignored.

Here in Clark County, Registrar of Voters Larry Lomax said last year he saw “rampant fraud in the 2,000 to 3,000 registrations ACORN turns in every week,” with some 48 percent of those forms being “clearly fraudulent.”

The Las Vegas headquarters of ACORN, “a Democrat-allied organization,” was raided after being “accused of submitting multiple voter registrations with duplicate and false names,” the Washington Times reported last fall. The outfit claimed it had registered to vote in Nevada, among others, the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys.

The raid “set off a skirmish over efforts to expand the electorate on behalf of Sen. Barack Obama,” the Times reported.

Mr. Lomax noted ACORN had hired 59 inmates from a work-release program at a nearby prison and that some inmates who had been convicted of identity theft had been made supervisors. “That led some local wags to joke that at least ACORN was hiring specialists to do their work,” reported John Fund at The Politico, last November.

ACORN’s 2008 Las Vegas field director, Christopher Edwards, pleased guilty last spring to two gross misdemeanor counts of conspiracy to commit compensation for registration of voters, in a deal that saw him agree to testify against fellow defendants.

Fox News’ Eric Shawn reported there were at least 11 investigations across the country involving thousands of potentially fraudulent ACORN forms. Yet none of this was sufficient to block President Obama and his congressional minions from upping federal subsidies to outfits such as Mr. Obama’s former associates at ACORN from the mere millions to the billions of dollars in their “economic stimulus” bill last winter.

Only when presented with the undeniable evidence of the “pimp and ho” videotape did the IRS last week announce it would terminate ACORN’s participation in the agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program — shortly after the Census Bureau advised ACORN it could forget about helping with its decennial head count.

Smoke? Fire? Washington Democratic leaders have opted to just lay low and not smell nothin’.

Despite all this evidence and a request in writing by 28 GOP senators — and despite the fact the U.S. Senate voted 83-7 on Sept. 14 to block ACORN from bidding for any more federal grant money — “Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., is refusing to hold a Senate hearing on ACORN’s activities,” the National Republican Senatorial Committee complained Wednesday.

Mr. Reid replied additional investigations might distract lawmakers from addressing more important matters, including health care and economic recovery.

“It’s become increasingly clear that ACORN may have manipulated tens of thousands of ballots in last year’s federal election — an area where Congress has clear oversight responsibilities — yet Harry Reid won’t lift a finger,” said NRSC spokesman Brian Walsh. “It’s hard to see his latest roadblock as anything but another example of Harry Reid protecting his liberal allies in Washington while remaining out of touch with his constituents in Nevada.”

My note:

There needs to be a FULL……RICO……investigation into ACORN.  Allowing the “foxes” to patrol/investigate themselves is ludicrous.

I hope the lawsuit against the filmers goes forward:

Disclosure will afford America a FLOOD LIGHT to actually see what ACORN has been up to,the “umbrella groups” associated with ACORN, the amount of taxpayer dollars received and the connections to ALL in Washington,D.C.  …………including the White House.

Time To Make Mulch Out of Peanut and Acorn Shells? The Peanut Farmer and the ACORN Hustlers

The Peanut Farmer and the ACORN Hustlers

2009 September 16

By Joseph Klein

Jimmy Carter, the failed president and erstwhile peanut farmer, continues to make a fool of himself.    His latest rantings on NBC News were re-played last night on Sean Hannity’s show:

“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African-American.”

“That racism inclination still exists, and I think it’s bubbled up to the surface because of belief among many white people — not just in the South but around the country — that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country.”

Wake up Jimmy!  You were not qualified to lead this great country and the last time I checked you are white.    You were voted out of office in a landslide because the American people were sick of your appeasement policies abroad and disastrous economic policies at home.

The majority of Americans voting for president in 2008 rejected a white guy and voted for an African-American.   Some now regret the choice not because they suddenly woke up one morning and realized that an African-American is in the White House.   They regret the choice because they strongly disagree with President Obama’s policies -  his appeasement policies abroad and disastrous economic policies at home.   Sound familiar?

Newt Gingrich had it exactly right when, in commenting on Carter’s idiotic statement on Hannity’s show, he said that it is “destructive for America to suggest you cannot criticize the President without it being a racial act.”

As the saying goes, the acorn does not fall far from the tree.  In this case, the peanut farmer helped to put ACORN Housing (the subject of the recent videos exposing its corruption) into business in the first place by signing the Community Reinvestment Act. And just like the peanut farmer, the Acorns are crying “racism” now that they have been caught counseling how to evade the law and to house underage El Salvadorians who would be brought into this country to turn tricks.

It is time for the peanut farmer and the ACORN hustlers to leave the public arena for good.

Wade Rathke, ACORN’s co-founder and former chief organizer, blasted FOX News on Tuesday for its “unfair” coverage of a group he said has served as a champion for social justice since 1970. Rathke, in an interview, said FOX News should be careful and fair about how it looks at the organization’s work.” [My note: "be careful"?  Is that to be taken as attempted intimidation?]

[ACORN co-founder Wade] Rathke has repeatedly blasted the news media and conservative groups for intentionally targeting ACORN because of its progressive agenda. In a posting on his “Chief Organizer Blog,” Rathke said the Census Bureau’s decision to break ties with ACORN showed “how willing the Obama administration is open to a cave-in to the conservatives on false pretenses on a completely fake ‘issue.’”

But Rathke, who left the group in June 2008, defended the group’s objectives and touted its role in raising the minimum wage and passing the Community Reinvestment Act — a federal law enacted in 1977 to reduce discriminatory credit practices against those living in low-income communities.

“This is all just more reputational McCarthyism as the rightwing and Republicans attack ACORN,” he wrote.

My end note:

1.  A failed President, Jimmy Carter, speaking out and using the word “racism” AGAIN!  One thing I have found out about the Left:  they like to use the word racism or racist to end arguments.  How about using the words: “Disagreement over policies”? To lay the blame of Rep. Wilson’s outburst on racism is a futile attempt to pump the base.

2.  Wade Rathke claims that he is no longer associated with ACORN; yet is the “Chief Organizer” and has his own blog.  Note: Acorn International has changed its name to Community Organization International

3.  There are 361 groups connected to the ACORN COUNCIL.

4.  WHY did Obama give $880,000 to ACORN from his Presidential campaign funds?

IT IS TIME FOR A RICO INVESTIGATION (BY AN INDEPENDENT GROUP)  OF ACORN.

We have seen how great a job Eric Holder does at the DOJ already……Americans should DEMAND that Independents investigate.

Exclusive:  ACORN Operating ILLEGALLY in Maryland

by Mike Roman

Last week, we saw some pretty disturbing activities revealed in the undercover footage from ACORN Housing’s Baltimore office. By any measure of conduct, the actions of ACORN’s employees should never have happened. It turns out the actions shouldn’t have happened for another, very simple, reason: ACORN can’t legally operate in the state of Maryland.

According to the following documents, ACORN, Inc.–the parent organization of all things ACORN–forfeited its corporate charter in Maryland in 2006. ACORN Housing forfeited its corporate charter in 2008. Any ACORN office in the state of Maryland is potentially operating illegally.

The Maryland Attorney General has made noise about prosecuting the intrepid journalists who undercovered the misdeeds of ACORN employees. Perhaps he should focus instead on how ACORN was able to operate without a license in his state.

***Documents from the State of Maryland can be viewed HERE.

My end note:

It is time for a RICO investigation into this enterprise.

“Live From New York”….another ACORN video. Congress MUST Investigate ACORN!

FIRST THIS:

ACORN Watch: “Honesty is not going to get you the house”

By Michelle Malkin • September 14, 2009

James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles visited one of ACORN’s New York offices in August, where they picked up handy tips on how to lie on housing forms to cover up a prostitution business (”Honesty is not going to get you the house,” one ACORN official advises) and how to hide cash from their illicit business (”When you buy the house with the backyard, you get a tin…and you bury it down in there…cover it…and put the grass over it…”).

Watch the whole thing at Big Government. This is now the third videotaped sting exposing the ACORN racket’s law-undermining, truth-sabotaging counseling sessions.

If the Census Bureau no longer trusts ACORN to collect data as a result of these videotapes, why is Congress still allowing taxpayer money to be funneled to the ACORN Housing Corporation?

AHC has received an estimated $16 million in taxpayer funds between 1997-2007, according to the Employment Policies Institute.

Last week, I noted that ACORN is now managing apartments in Bedford-Stuyvesant for the newly completed Atlantic Avenue Apartments.

In April, I noted that the bone-headed Bush administration shoved another $1.6 million into AHC’s pockets to subsidize the left-wing mortgage counseling racket.

AHC has a long history of abusing federal housing funds and Americorps grants for political activities. Thanks to the Consumer Rights League and brave ACORN whistleblowers, we also know their shady practices include working to obtain mortgages for illegal aliens and relying on undocumented income, “under the table” money, that may not be reported to the Internal Revenue Service.

And thanks to the Employment Policies Institute, we know the stench goes back decades. Just one infamous episode from 1994:

AmeriCorps

In 1994 the ACORN Housing Corporation (AHC) was awarded a $1.1 million grant by AmeriCorps, a program of the Corporation for National Service (CNS). The money was intended to fund the training of 42 AmeriCorps members in 13 cities. The workers were expected to identify low-income families hoping to purchase a first home, to assist them in finding suitable housing, and to advise them in securing the
necessary financing.

During the grant-making process, AHC was asked about its relationship to ACORN, because political advocates were ineligible for the grant. At the time, AHC maintained that it was a completely separate entity from ACORN, and CNS awarded the grant based on this understanding.

Evidence uncovered by Luise Jordan, the Inspector General for AmeriCorps, suggests that this promised separation was simply not true. In testimony before a house subcommittee, Jordan stated:

Our preliminary research determined that AHC was part of a number of ACORN-related organizations.

… Not only did we find references to ACORN having “created” AHC to serve purposes common to both organizations, we noted numerous transactions and activities involving AHC and other “fraternal” ACORN-related corporations. These transactions included costs charged to AHC, and thus to the CNS grant, by ACORN or other ACORN-related entities. … Charges of this nature were made to our grant for the AHC locations where AHC and ACORN (or other ACORN-related activities) were co-located.

AHC’s initial subterfuge pales in comparison to the illegal fundraising scheme it subsequently operated, using its AmeriCorps grant to increase ACORN’s membership.

According to Jordan, one ACORN member in the Dallas regional office stated that “the only reason for having the AmeriCorps program was to gain new ACORN members, and that if AmeriCorps loan counseling clients did not start becoming ACORN members, she could and would halt the AmeriCorps project.” Jordan found that this understanding was not limited to the Dallas office. Using government funds to solicit membership in an organization that— like ACORN—participates in direct political advocacy is a violation of federal guidelines.

AHC also utilized its government-funded loan counseling program to steer low-income families toward ACORN memberships. Jordan found that AHC had distributed leaflets stating that low income, first-time homebuyers were required to join ACORN, at an annual cost of $60, in order to receive the government-subsidized counseling. “An AHC loan counseling client in New Orleans (who is a retired high school business teacher),” she explained, “was escorted by an AmeriCorps member to an ACORN organizer who solicited membership in ACORN. The client felt like she was not going to be allowed to leave until she gave the ACORN organizer a $60 check, or authorized a $5 per month automatic bank draft for ACORN membership dues.” And as with ACORN’s own employees who attempted to unionize, AmeriCorps members who refused to participate in this illegal fundraising scheme faced the threat of immediate termination.

The Inspector General’s office (IG) was lucky to find out as much about the improper relationship between AHC and ACORN as it did. And AHC made every effort to obstruct the investigation. The IG issued subpoenas to AHC and ACORN, whose response “did not include several documents, or parts of documents that we had obtained from our other sources.” Jordan later wrote, “Our subpoena clearly called for these documents, and they were critical in supporting the conclusions of our investigation.” Withholding required documentation was only the beginning of AHC’s attempt to hinder the investigation. AHC also limited the ability of investigators to interview AmeriCorps members in private. This greatly hampered the IG’s ability to obtain reliable information regarding the activities of AmeriCorps members. Eventually, in response to a torrent of red flags raised by the IG, the Corporation for National Service terminated AHC’s grant…

• Tax forms show that the ACORN Housing Corporation has received more than $11,230,000 in public funds since fiscal year 1997. More than $5,100,000 was paid in fees or grants to ACORN entities.

I’ll ask again: If the Census Bureau no longer trusts ACORN to collect data as a result of these videotapes, why is Congress still allowing taxpayer money to be funneled to the ACORN Housing Corporation?

It’s all about the coordinated corruption.

Call your congressional representatives (202-224-3121) and say it louder:

ACORN is a criminal enterprise.

Not one more taxpayer dime.

THEN ADD THIS:

GO  HERE   FOR A LIST OF THE  361 ENTITIES of the ACORN COUNCIL.

THE LATEST:

The independent filmmaker whose hidden-camera videos prompted the firing of four ACORN workers is demanding an apology from ACORN for calling his work a fabricated “scam” and daring the activist group to take legal action against him.

“Bring it on,” filmmaker James O’Keefe said Sunday on FOX News.

That was after ACORN lashed out at O’Keefe, who with his friend Hannah Giles posed as a pimp and prostitute looking to evade the IRS and apply for an illegal housing loan for a brothel. The sting operation caught four ACORN workers in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., offices appearing to offer their help.

Those workers were subsequently fired, and the U.S. Census Bureau severed ties with ACORN in the wake of the controversy. But ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis issued a written statement Saturday saying that while she cannot defend the actions of the workers who were terminated, O’Keefe may have committed a “felony” with his operation. She also threatened legal action against FOX News, which aired the videos but did not produce them

“It is clear that the videos are doctored, edited, and in no way the result of the fabricated story being portrayed by conservative activist ‘filmmaker’ O’Keefe and his partner in crime. And, in fact, a crime it was — our lawyers believe a felony — and we will be taking legal action against Fox and their co-conspirators,” she said.

In an interview with FOX News senior correspondent Eric Shawn, O’Keefe said he wants an apology from those media outlets “covering for ACORN” as well as from ACORN itself. He said he doubts ACORN will file suit.

“They don’t have any leg to stand on, so they’re saying I dubbed in my voice which is completely absurd,” he said. “When the truth comes out in the end, they’re going to be apologizing to us.”

O’Keefe said he was “just trying to hold these organizations accountable.”

Lewis said in her statement that O’Keefe’s “scam” was attempted in several other cities but had “failed for months.”

O’Keefe declined to comment on the allegedly unsuccessful attempts, but said it’s a “lie” to claim that any ACORN offices “kicked us out.”

End note:

O’Keefe’s response to a possible lawsuit?  “Bring It On.”

IF a lawsuit is filed, it will expose ACORN further.  It is called DISCOVERY; information that has to be turned over to both parties before a lawsuit is heard.

Census Bureau Cuts Ties To ACORN…….

ACORN Watch: Census Bureau cuts ties; Update: Census letter added

By Michelle Malkin  •  September 11, 2009

It’s a start!

FNC’s Major Garrett reports on Twitter that the U.S. Census Bureau has cut all ties to ACORN, which had been named a Census data collection partner for the 2010 Census.

Census director Robert Groves, an ACORN-approved nominee, reportedly sent a letter to the racketeers today in the wake of Big Government’s videotaped stings in Baltimore and DC.

Now, on to a full investigation of the ACORN Housing Corporation, CSI, CCI, Project Vote and the Obama campaign.

No more taxpayer funding for this corrupt racket.

Cut ‘em all off NOW.

Repeat after me: ACORN is a criminal enterprise.

***

House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Ranking Member Darrell Issa (R-CA) today applauded U.S. Census Bureau Director Robert Groves’ decision to terminate its partnership with ACORN in conducting the 2010 Census: “ACORN had no business working on the Census. ACORN’s partisan election efforts and its involvement in criminal conduct rightly disqualified it from working on the non-partisan mission of the Census to accurately and honestly count the U.S. population,” said Rep. Issa. “Had ACORN been allowed to submit fraudulent information to the Census, it could have changed the boundaries of Congressional districts and altered Federal funding decisions to states and local communities. I applaud Census Bureau Director Robert Groves for making this independent decision following mounting evidence of wrongdoing by ACORN.”

Here’s the PDF of the Census Director’s letter to ACORN’s Maude Hurd.

Takeaway quotes from letter: “Over the last several months, through ongoing communication with our regional offices, it is clear that ACORN’s affiliation with 2010 Census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has ineed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 Census efforts. While not decisive factors in this decision, recent events concerning several local offices of ACORN have added to the worsening negative perceptions of ACORN and its affiliation with our partnership efforts.”

Bottom line: “We no longer have confidence that our national partnership agreement is being effectively managed through your offices.”

ACORN EXPOSED! Representative Steve King Calls for Congressional Investigation of ACORN

From: BigGovernment.com

http://biggovernment.com/

Andrew Breitbart’s Big Hollywood, started a new website recently, BigGovernment.com.  And filmmaker James O’Keefe, 25-year-old independent filmmaker, has his own theory about how to expose people on the left and he’s using Alinsky rules.  One of the Saul Alinsky rules in dealing with your enemies is making your enemies live by their own rules will destroy them.  So O’Keefe’s theory is, hey, just calling attention to their corruption and disagreeing with it and demanding that it stop isn’t going to accomplish anything.  We’ve got to go encourage the corruption and illustrate how it happens.  So what happened was, James O’Keefe posed as a pimp with a 20-year-old woman named Kenya who posed as a prostitute while visiting ACORN’s office in Baltimore.  The couple told ACORN staffers that they wanted to secure housing where the woman could continue to maintain a prostitution business.

Now, ACORN advised the woman on two things:  how to avoid being caught paying taxes, how to avoid paying taxes on her business, how to cheat the IRS, and how to get away with running a prostitution business in Baltimore.  We have couple sound bites that illustrate this.  There’s video of this.  The whole video runs about an hour.  They got two long segments of it on O’Keefe’s site at BigGovernment.com.  This is your tax dollars at work, by the way.  ACORN employees, ACORN, four to five billion dollars in the stimulus package directly to them.  Remember, ACORN is Barack Obama’s training ground.  When he got to Chicago he became a community organizer with ACORN.  He taught them how to do things; they taught him how to do things.  We now have an ACORN-type community agitator as president of the United States.  So in this bite, this is the videotape, James O Keefe is posing as the pimp, his woman, Kenya, posing as the prostitute at the ACORN Baltimore office, and in this bite the ACORN employee advises the cameraman on how to hide a prostitution business.

ACORN fires 2 after hidden-camera footage aired

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D9AKO0I80&show_article=1

BALTIMORE (AP) – The nonprofit housing group ACORN has fired two employees at its Baltimore office who were seen on hidden-camera video giving advice to a man posing as a pimp and a woman pretending to be a prostitute.

Fox News Channel broadcast excerpts from the video Thursday. Those excerpts showed a man and woman asking about buying a house and how to account on tax forms for the woman’s income. An ACORN employee advises the woman to list her occupation as “performance artist.

Maryland ACORN board member Margaret Williams says in a statement the employees “did not meet ACORN’s standards of professionalism.”

The statement also says the video was an attempt to smear ACORN and that undercover teams attempted similar stunts at three other ACORN offices.

ACORN stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

Rep. Steve King Calls for Congressional Investigation of ACORN

by Publius

From the desk of Congressman Steve King (R-IA):

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Steve King today reacted to a tape released by an independent filmmaker showing Baltimore-based ACORN workers assisting a man and a woman claiming to be involved in a prostitution ring. According to FOXNEWS, “Officials with the controversial community organizing group ACORN were secretly videotaped offering to assist two individuals posing as a pimp and a prostitute, encouraging them to lie to the Internal Revenue Service and providing guidance on how to claim underage girls from South America as dependents.”

“Taxpayers should be outraged that their money has gone to an organization that, in addition to facing charges of voter fraud and tax violations, is willing to facilitate prostitution,” King said. “As this video confirms, ACORN continues to operate as a criminal enterprise. Nancy Pelosi, John Conyers, Barney Frank and other Democrats on Capitol Hill continue to protect and fund ACORN while blocking Congressional hearings on ACORN’s operations and finances. Shielding ACORN from oversight ensures that this partisan criminal enterprise will continue its shady practices while collecting taxpayer funds.”

WHY IS MEDIA SILENT ON ACORN CORRUPTION?

Note: Rep. Conyers was interested in starting an investigation about ACORN, but then dropped interest in pursing the case. WHY? According to Conyers, the “Powers that be; from the higher ups told him to drop it”……..
