Communists/Progressives/Marxists/Unions Building Coalition: The Fight over the Ballot Box Ensues

To the Republicans, Independents, Patriots and yes some moderate/conservative Democrats; the fight by the Progressive coalition is building.  To THINK your job is done for the November 2010 elections…. is a FALLACY.

The Progressives, under the “umbrella” of the Economic Policy Institute plans a One Nation…working together march on Washington,D.C. on October 2, 2010.

Labor joins One Nation coalition to reorder nation’s priorities

August 5, 2010

WASHINGTON – The AFL-CIO executive committee voted unanimously this morning to join One Nation, Working Together, a new national coalition of labor and civil rights groups that has as its purpose to “reorder America’s priorities by investing in the nation’s most valuable resource – its people.”

The labor, civil rights, environmental, faith and other organizations that have formed the new coalition intend to replace unemployment and economic crisis faced by the country’s majority with “nothing less than a future of shared prosperity for all our people,” the AFL-CIO said in a statement after it voted to join One Nation.

“None of us alone have been able to achieve our priorities,” said Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO.

One Nation’s first official act as a coalition will be a march on Washington on Oct. 2, which unions say will energize an army of tens of thousands who will return to their neighborhoods, churches, schools and voting booths to prevent a Republican takeover of Congress in November and begin building a new permanent coalition to fight for a progressive agenda.

To win in November, unions will build “people power”

August 6, 2010

WASHINGTON – AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka reminded state and local labor leaders meeting here this week that even the nation’s largest labor federation, an organization that changed the course of U.S. history in the 2008 elections, is powerless without boots on the ground. More than money or anything else, he said, “union power is people power, it is about boots on the ground. Your union members are the power.”

If this week’s meetings are any indication, the labor movement is approaching what many here feel is its most important moment in 75 years – the 2010 elections – with a firm understanding of how to build that “people power.”

Some leaders here think the U.S. labor movement really began to understand union power in this way in 2006. That was year the nation’s unions moved to put the brakes on the Bush agenda. They organized a campaign that ended Republican control of both the House and the Senate.

Labor improved upon that effort in 2008, and the result was President Obama moving into the White House with big Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.

Labor leaders attribute that success to an AFL-CIO political program that did not exist before 2006. The federation endorsed candidates before that, but there was nothing in place like the election program that exists now, they say.

“You’ve heard that talk,” Trumka told the labor leaders this week. “I’ve heard it too. But what has happened? Do you think for one moment that the people who wanted change and were so charged up two years ago suddenly changed their minds and want to go back to the way things were before?”

He answered his own question with a “no.” The so-called enthusiasm gap is the result of a right-wing strategy designed to keep voters home out of frustration, he said.

The Republicans figure if they can thoroughly disgust progressives, then the right-wing radicals, the corporate conservatives and the tea party fanatics can win the election, Trumka said.

Obama asks labor to help prevent GOP takeover

August 5, 2010

Obama told the labor leaders that a return to Republican control would be a return to policies that created the economic disaster in the first place.

He described the GOP as “a driver that drove the car into the ditch and stood there for a year and a half, while we put on boots, got down into the mud, and heaved and hoed and pulled to get that car out. Just as we get it to the ledge, they come along and say, ‘We want the keys back.’ Uh uh, you can’t have the keys back. We will not give them back!” Obama’s story was cut off, first by laughter, then by prolonged applause.

Obama said, “With the help of workers and unions we are going to rebuild our country stronger than ever, and at the heart of it will be three simple words: made in America.”

Part of the choice in the November elections, he said, is a choice between job creation in America or jobs going elsewhere. “Instead of giving tax breaks to corporations that want to ship our jobs overseas, we want to give tax breaks to companies that are investing right here in the U.S.A.”

The president acknowledged that “we are a long way from solving all our problems” but insisted that “we are on the right track.”

“Instead of losing millions of jobs,” he said, “we have created jobs for six straight months in the private sector. Instead of an economy that is contracting, we’ve got an economy that is expanding. So the last thing we would want to do is go back to what we were doing before.”

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka asked Obama what he had to say regarding the plight of millions who do have jobs but jobs that pay poverty wages and afford workers no voice at the workplace.

“Look, it’s going to be tough with the Senate we have,” Obama responded, “but we are going to keep fighting for the Employee Free Choice Act.”  The president noted that he had worked to create conditions in the Labor Department and on the National Labor Relations Board that would, “at least make it more likely that workers can get fast fair elections when they want a union.”

Obama recalled President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s comment that if he were a factory worker, he’d join a union.

***Note here:  WHAT Obama didn’t tell them is that GM (Government motors) is building/working a PLANT in……MEXICO!***

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac coupled with the Community Reinvestment Act is the main cause of this economic downturn.  Obama received the HIGHEST $$$ amount from Fannie Mae.

Frank Raines, tied to Obama received MILLIONS in a golden parachute deal just before the fall of Fannie Mae.

Republicans are at fault too with their “runaway” spending.  BUT remember the Democrats took over control of the House and Senate in 2006…….so WHO approved the spending?
