The Progressive Movement and the Transformation of American Politics

Progressivism was the reform movement that ran from the late 19th century through the first decades of the 20th century, during which leading intellectuals and social reformers in the United States sought to address the economic, political, and cultural questions that had arisen in the context of the rapid changes brought with the Industrial Revolution and the growth of modern capitalism in America. The Progressives believed that these changes marked the end of the old order and required the creation of a new order appropriate for the new industrial age.

There are, of course, many different representations of Progressivism: the literature of Upton Sinclair, the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, the history of Charles Beard, the educational system of John Dewey. In politics and political thought, the movement is associated with political leaders such as Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt and thinkers such as Herbert Croly and Charles Merriam.

While the Progressives differed in their assessment of the problems and how to resolve them, they generally shared in common the view that government at every level must be actively involved in these reforms. The existing constitutional system was outdated and must be made into a dynamic, evolving instrument of social change, aided by scientific knowledge and the development of administrative bureaucracy.

At the same time, the old system was to be opened up and made more democratic; hence, the direct elections of Senators, the open primary, the initiative and referendum. It also had to be made to provide for more revenue; hence, the Sixteenth Amendment and the progressive income tax.

Presidential leadership would provide the unity of direction — the vision — needed for true progressive government. “All that progressives ask or desire,” wrote Woodrow Wilson, “is permission — in an era when development, evolution, is a scientific word — to interpret the Constitution according to the Darwinian principle; all they ask is recognition of the fact that a nation is a living thing and not a machine.”

The thesis of our book, The Progressive Revolution in Politics and Political Science, is that Progressivism transformed American politics. What was that transformation? It was a total rejection in theory, and a partial rejection in practice, of the principles and policies on which America had been founded and on the basis of which the Civil War had been fought and won only a few years earlier. When I speak of Progressivism, I mean the movement that rose to prominence between about 1880 and 1920.

Government’s main duty for the Founders is to secure that freedom — at home through the making and enforcement of criminal and civil law, abroad through a strong national defense. The protection of life and liberty is achieved through vigorous prosecutions of crime against person and property or through civil suits for recovery of damages, these cases being decided by a jury of one’s peers.

The Progressives regarded the Founders’ scheme as defective because it took too benign a view of nature. As Dewey remarked, they thought that the individual was ready-made by nature. The Founders’ supposed failure to recognize the crucial role of society led the Progressives to disparage the Founders’ insistence on limited government. The Progressive goal of politics is freedom, now understood as freedom from the limits imposed by nature and necessity. They rejected the Founders’ conception of freedom as useful for self-preservation for the sake of the individual pursuit of happiness. For the Progressives, freedom is redefined as the fulfillment of human capacities, which becomes the primary task of the state.

To this end, Dewey writes, “the state has the responsibility for creating institutions under which individuals can effectively realize the potentialities that are theirs.” So although “it is true that social arrangements, laws, institutions are made for man, rather than that man is made for them,” these laws and institutions “are not means for obtaining something for individuals, not even happiness. They are means of creating individuals…. Individuality in a social and moral sense is something to be wrought out.” “Creating individuals” versus “protecting individuals”: this sums up the difference between the Founders’ and the Progressives’ conception of what government is for.

3. The Progressives’ Rejection of consent and Compact as the Basis of Society

In accordance with their conviction that all human beings are by nature free, the Founders taught that political society is “formed by a voluntary association of individuals: It is a social compact, by which the whole people covenants with each citizen, and each citizen with the whole people, that all shall be governed by certain laws for the common good” (Massachusetts Constitution of 1780).

For the Founders, the consent principle extended beyond the founding of society into its ordinary operation. Government was to be conducted under laws, and laws were to be made by locally elected officials, accountable through frequent elections to those who chose them. The people would be directly involved in governing through their participation in juries selected by lot.

The Progressives treated the social compact idea with scorn. Charles Merriam, a leading Progressive political scientist, wrote:

The individualistic ideas of the “natural right” school of political theory, indorsed in the Revolution, are discredited and repudiated…. The origin of the state is regarded, not as the result of a deliberate agreement among men, but as the result of historical development, instinctive rather than conscious; and rights are considered to have their source not in nature, but in law.

 5. Limits on Government and the Integrity of the Private Sphere

For the Founders, the purpose of government is to protect the private sphere, which they regarded as the proper home of both the high and the low, of the important and the merely urgent, of God, religion, and science, as well as providing for the needs of the body. The experience of religious persecution had convinced the Founders that government was incompetent at directing man in his highest endeavors. The requirements of liberty, they thought, meant that self-interested private associations had to be permitted, not because they are good in themselves, but because depriving individuals of freedom of association would deny the liberty that is necessary for the health of society and the flourishing of the individual.

For the Founders, although government was grounded in divine law (i.e., the laws of nature and of nature’s God), government was seen as a merely human thing, bound up with all the strengths and weaknesses of human nature. Government had to be limited both because it was dangerous if it got too powerful and because it was not supposed to provide for the highest things in life.

Because of the Progressives’ tendency to view the state as divine and the natural as low, they no longer looked upon the private sphere as that which was to be protected by government. Instead, the realm of the private was seen as the realm of selfishness and oppression. Private property was especially singled out for criticism. Some Progressives openly or covertly spoke of themselves as socialists.

Woodrow Wilson did so in an unpublished writing. A society like the Founders’ that limits itself to protecting life, liberty, and property was one in which, as Wilson wrote with only slight exaggeration, “all that government had to do was to put on a policeman’s uniform and say, ‘Now don’t anybody hurt anybody else.'” Wilson thought that such a society was unable to deal with the conditions of modern times.

Wilson rejected the earlier view that “the ideal of government was for every man to be left alone and not interfered with, except when he interfered with somebody else; and that the best government was the government that did as little governing as possible.” A government of this kind is unjust because it leaves men at the mercy of predatory corporations. Without government management of those corporations, Wilson thought, the poor would be destined to indefinite victimization by the wealthy. Previous limits on government power must be abolished. Accordingly, Progressive political scientist Theodore Woolsey wrote, “The sphere of the state may reach as far as the nature and needs of man and of men reach, including intellectual and aesthetic wants of the individual, and the religious and moral nature of its citizens.”

However, this transformation is still in the future, for Progress takes place through historical development. A sign of the Progressives’ unlimited trust in unlimited political authority is Dewey’s remark in his “Ethics of Democracy” that Plato’s Republic presents us with the “perfect man in the perfect state.” What Plato’s Socrates had presented as a thought experiment to expose the nature and limits of political life is taken by Dewey to be a laudable obliteration of the private sphere by government mandate. In a remark that the Founders would have found repugnant, Progressive political scientist John Burgess wrote that “the most fundamental and indispensable mark of statehood” was “the original, absolute, unlimited, universal power over the individual subject, and all associations of subjects.”

If the Cloward and Piven agenda were being implemented, would it look any different?

In all likelihood, they would be delighted with the massive deficits and the “spillage” that is the lax implementation of government entitlements.

1966 Article by Columbia Professors Cloward and Piven was a hot topic for awhile, but has since fell from attention.  But isn’t now the time to reconsider exactly how this administration is steering people into record government program participation?

Some quotes from the 1966 article that reveal the mission.  Increase the entitlement roles, redistribute wealth, guarantee income, and reduce qualifications for participating in these programs.  Use organizing, demonstrating and a “climate of militancy”.

“…a political crisis would result that could lead to legislation for a guaranteed annual income”

“Advocacy must be supplemented by organized demonstrations to create a climate of militancy that will overcome the invidious and immobilizing attitudes which many potential recipients hold toward being “on welfare.””  — Occupy and ACORN

“The ultimate aim of this strategy is a new program for direct income distribution.”

“We tend to overlook the force of crisis in precipitating legislative reform, partly because we lack a theoretical framework by which to understand the impact of major disruptions.”

“By crisis, we mean a publicly visible disruption in some institutional sphere. Crisis can occur spontaneously (e.g., riots) or as the intended result of tactics of demonstration and protest which either generate institutional disruption or bring unrecognized disruption to public attention.”

This explains the Occupy Movement, and the tacit approval of the Obama Administration.

This explains the gutting of the Clinton era Welfare requirements by the Obama administration.

This explains the lack of diligence by administrators in determining who exactly qualifies for Disability. Encouraging people to get on unemployment, then when your 99 weeks are up, go to disability.  We won’t check if you meet the requirements.

This explains why there is a concerted effort to get as many people as possible on Food Stamps, and the lack of oversight diligence here as well.

Get involved in your government. Start locally with your City Council, your county School Boards. STAND UP for what you believe is Right and Wrong with the system.

Hawaiian activism

Frank Marshall Davismove to Hawaii was influenced by two secret Communist Party USA members Harry Bridges and Paul Robeson.

When contemplating moving to Hawaii, Davis “wrote to Harry Bridges, whom I had met at Lincoln School. Bridges suggested I get in touch with Koji Ariyoshi, editor of the Honolulu Record…

The Lincoln School was run by the Communist Party USA. Koji Ariyoshi was a leader of the Hawaiian Communist Party which controlled the ILWU affiliated Honolulu Record– which Davis went to work for.

Frank Marshall Davis met Barack Obama in 1970 or 1971 when Obama was about 10 years old. The relationship lasted until Obama left Hawaii for Occidental College in Los Angeles in 1978.

As late as 1973, Frank Marshall Davis was still listed as an endorser of a major Communist Party USA front organization, American Committee for Protection of Foreign Born.

 

Vernon Jarrett and Barack Obama

Vernon Jarrett was a prominent Chicago journalist and was a family friend and later father-in-law of Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett.

In the 1940s Jarrett worked in several communist influenced organizations in Chicago, including serving on the publicity committee of the communist controlled Packing House Workers Strike Committee, with Frank Marshall Davis.

He also ran a radio show with Communist Party USA member Oscar Brown, Jr.

Vernon Jarrett was also a fan of Barack Obama. He watched his career from its early stages and became an influential supporter.

In 1992 Obama worked for the ACORN offshoot, Project Vote to register black voters in aid of the Senate Campaign of Carol Moseley Braun-who had strong Communist Party USA ties and was Harold Washington‘s legislative floor leader.

Obama helped Carol Moseley Braun win her Senate seat, then took it over himself in 2004-backed by the same communist/socialist alliance that had elected Washington and Moseley Braun.

Commenting on the 1992 race, Vernon Jarrett wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of August 11th 1992;

Good news! Good news! Project Vote, a collectivity of 10 church-based community organizations dedicated to black voter registration, is off and running. Project Vote is increasing its rolls at a 7,000-per-week clip…If Project Vote is to reach its goal of registering 150,000 out of an estimated 400,000 unregistered blacks statewide, “it must average 10,000 rather than 7,000 every week,” says Barack Obama, the program’s executive director…

Dee Myles, a Chicago based chair of the Education Commission of the Communist Party USA penned a tribute to Vernon Jarrett, for the People’s Weekly World of June 5th, 2004.

Readers like me can be extremely selective of the journalists we read habitually… We are selective about the journalists to whom we become insatiably addicted, and once hooked we develop a constructive love affair without the romance…

Such was my experience with Vernon Jarrett, an African American journalist in Chicago who died at the age of 86 on May 23. I became a Vernon Jarrett addict, and I am proud of it!

Vernon Jarrett’s career as a journalist in Chicago began and ended at the Chicago Defender, the African American daily paper. In between, he was the first Black journalist at the Chicago Tribune, and I first began to read his articles during his tenure at the Chicago Sun-Times.

Paul Robeson and W.E.B. DuBois were both Communist Party USA members. On April 9th, 1998 at Chicago’s South Shore Cultural Center, Vernon Jarrett hosted a Paul Robeson Citywide Centennial Celebration event, with his old comrade and Party sympathiser Margaret Burroughs and former Communist Party USA members Studs Terkel and his old friend Oscar Brown, Jr.

Dee Myles went on to say;

Jarrett was fanatical about African Americans registering and voting in mass for socially conscious candidates. He championed Harold Washington like a great warrior, and this March, from his hospital bed, wrote an article appealing to Black Chicago to turn out to vote for Barack Obama in the Illinois primaries. Obama astounded everyone with an incredible landslide victory as the progressive, Black candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for the U.S. Senate seat from Illinois. From his sickbed, Vernon Jarrett issued a clarion call, and the people responded.

 

The Communist Party USA actively campaigned for Obama during his successful 2004 Illinois Senate race[5].

Activists from Illinois were immersed in the campaign to elect Barak Obama to the U.S. Senate. Obama won a landslide victory in the March 16 Democratic primary. If Obama wins in November, he would be only the third African American senator since Reconstruction.
“This was a historic victory. It was a victory for political independence and grassroots, coalition, and issue oriented politics over the machine and money,” said John Bachtell, Illinois CP district organizer.

In a November 23 2007 report to a Chicago Special District Meeting on African American Equality, Communist Party USA National Board member John Bachtell wrote[6];

The historic election of {Harold} Washington was the culmination of many years of struggle. It reflected a high degree of unity of the African American community and the alliance with a section of labor, the Latino community and progressive minded whites. This legacy of political independence also endures…
This was also reflected in the historic election of Barack Obama. Our Party actively supported Obama during the primary election. Once again Obama’s campaign reflected the electoral voting unity of the African American community, but also the alliances built with several key trade unions, and forces in the Latino and white communities.
It also reflected a breakthrough among white voters. In the primary, Obama won 35% of the white vote and 7 north side wards, in a crowded field. During the general election he won every ward in the city and all the collar counties. This appeal has continued in his presidential run.

 

“Revolutionary mole” letter

Frank Chapman is a long time Communist Party USA supporter. In the early 1980s he chaired a party front National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression. In the mid ’80s he served on the board of another communist front, the U.S. Peace Council, alongside two future Obama colleagues and supporters Alice Palmer and Barbara Lee.

Just after Obama won the pivotal Iowa primary Chapman wrote a letter to the January 12, 2008 edition of the CPUSA’s Peoples Weekly World;[8]

Now, beyond all the optimism I was capable of mustering, Mr. Obama won Iowa! He won in a political arena 95 percent white. It was a resounding defeat for the manipulations of the ultra-right and their right-liberal fellow travelers. Also it was a hard lesson for liberals who underestimated the political fury of the masses in these troubled times.
Obama’s victory was more than a progressive move; it was a dialectical leap ushering in a qualitatively new era of struggle. Marx once compared revolutionary struggle with the work of the mole, who sometimes burrows so far beneath the ground that he leaves no trace of his movement on the surface. This is the old revolutionary “mole,” not only showing his traces on the surface but also breaking through.
The old pattern of politics as usual has been broken. It may not have happened as we expected it to happen but what matters is that it happened. The message is clear: we can and must defeat the ultra-right, by uniting the broadest possible coalition that will represent an overwhelming majority of the people in a new political dynamic. We must quickly shed yesterday’s political perspective and get in step with the march of events.

Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the US. It is one of two official U.S. affiliates of the Socialist International. It was formed in 1982 from a merger of the Michael Harrington led Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee and the smaller New American Movement.

DSA works inside the Democratic Party and has cross membership with the Communist Party USA, Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, Socialist Party USA and the Green Party USA.

DSA has close ties to the radical Institute for Policy Studies, ACORN, Jobs with Justice, Congressional Progressive Caucus and publications including Dissent,

The Nation and The American Prospect.

Socialist Scholars Conferences

Barack Obama makes an apparent reference to the Socialist Scholars Conference in his 1995 autobiography “Dreams From My Father”[2].

Discussing his time studying political science at New York’s Columbia University, in the early 80s, Obama reveals that he “went to socialist conferences at Cooper Union and African cultural fairs in Brooklyn.”

“Cooper Union” is the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, a privately funded college in Downtown Manhattan.

For many years, from the early 1980s until 2004, Cooper Union was the usual venue of the annual Socialist Scholars Conference-almost certainly what Obama was referring to.

Socialist Scholars Conference-now known as Left Forum was for many years the largest socialist gathering in the USA, attracting up to 2,000 participants.

Other speakers came from the Communist Party USA and its offshoot, the Committees of Correspondence, the International Socialists and Freedom Road Socialist Organization as well as independent Marxists, Maoists, Trotskyites, black radicals, gay activists and radical feminists.

Barack Obama wrote of “conferences” plural, indicating his attendance was not the result of accident or youthful curiosity.

Barack Obama spoke at a Democratic Socialists of America organized forum at the University of Chicago in early 1996.[4]

Over three hundred people attended the first of two Town Meetings on Economic Insecurity on February 25 in Ida Noyes Hall at the University of Chicago. Entitled “Employment and Survival in Urban America”, the meeting was sponsored by the UofC DSA Youth Section, Chicago DSA and University Democrats.

The panelists were Toni Preckwinkle, Alderman of Chicago’s 4th Ward, Barack Obama, candidate for the 13th Illinois Senate District, Professor William Julius Wilson, Center for the Study of Urban Inequality at the University of Chicago, Professor Michael Dawson, University of Chicago and Professor Joseph Schwartz, Temple University and a member of DSA’s National Political Committee[5].

Barack Obama observed that Martin Luther King’s March on Washington in the 1960s wasn’t simply about civil rights but “demanded jobs as well”.
One of the themes that has emerged in Barack Obama’s campaign is “what does it take to create productive communities”, not just consumptive communities. It is an issue that joins some of the best instincts of the conservatives with the better instincts of the left.”
Obama felt the state government has three constructive roles to play.
The first is “human capital development”. By this he meant public education, welfare reform, and a “workforce preparation strategy”. Public education requires equality in funding. It’s not that “money is the only solution to public education’s problems but it’s a start toward a solution… A true welfare system would provide for medical care, child care and job training. While Barack Obama did not use this term, it sounded very much like the “social wage” approach used by many social democratic labor parties.”
The state government “can also play a role in redistribution, the allocation of wages and jobs. As Barack Obama noted, when someone gets paid $10 million to eliminate 4,000 jobs, the voters in his district know this is an issue of power not economics. The government can use as tools labor law reform, public works and contracts.”
Finally, Illinois “needs an industrial strategy. How do we create more jobs for everyone? Illinois has no strategy for encouraging high wage, high productivity jobs”.

 

Saul Mendelson’s funeral

The Memorial Service for Chicago Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) member Saul Mendelson was held on Sunday, March 29, 1998, at the First Unitarian Church, Chicago[8].

Other speakers included Communist Party USA aligned Senator Carol Moseley Braun, Alderman Toni Preckwinkle, State Senator Barack Obama, Illinois House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie and “a good friend from New York”, Myra Russell.

Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights

Founded in 1961 and still active, the Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights is one of the Communist Party USA‘s most successful and enduring creations-playing a major role in the near elimination of police spying against radical organizations.

In the early years Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights personnel were virtually, all proven members or sympathisers of the Communist Party USA. In later years, supporters of the New American Movement, Democratic Socialists of America and Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism were more prominent.

In the 1970s, prominent members of the organization included Quentin Young, Timuel Black and Rabbi Arnold Jacob Wolf.

 

All three went on to join Democratic Socialists of America. All three went on to become friends and supporters of Barack Obama.

 

DSA and Progressives for Obama

Formed in early 2008 Progressives for Obama was designed to unite the main sectors of the U.S. left behind the Obama presidential campaign.

Of the four main founders, two Bill Fletcher, Jr. and Barbara Ehrenreich are senior members of Democratic Socialists of America.

Of the website’s endorsersPaul Buhle, Duane Campbell, Peter Dreier, Adam Hochschild, Jay Mazur, Frances Fox Piven, Christine Riddiough, Stanley Sheinbaum, Cornel West and Betty Willhoite have been Democratic Socialists of America members[27].

Chicago socialist alliance

Barack Obama did not rise to prominence from a political vacuum.

His political career has been supported since its earliest stages by a coalition of Chicago socialists.

This alliance, centered around the Communist Party USA, Democratic Socialists of America and the far left of the Democratic Party came into its own in Chicago in the early 1980s.

One of the alliance’s major successes was the election of Chicago’s first black Mayor, Harold Washington in 1983. A Democratic Party Congressman, Washington bravely and successfully ran for mayor against the remnants of the once invincible Daley machine.

Washington died in office in 1987, but the alliance remained intact, incorporating the Communist Party spin-off Committees of Correspondence and went on to elect Carol Moseley Braun, to the U.S. Senate in 1992.

The same alliance worked to elect Barack Obama, to Moseley Braun’s former Senate seat in 2004. In 2008, they worked with their allies nationwide to help put Barack Obama into the White House.

 

Marilyn Katz “Barack Obama could only have emerged in Chicago”

Marilyn Katz has worked closely with Barack Obama since meeting him through his position at Miner, Barnhill & Galland in the 1990s.[2]

It was through the law firm that Mr. Obama met Marilyn Katz, who gave him entry into another activist network: the foot soldiers of the white student and black power movements that helped define Chicago in the 1960s.
As a leader of Students for a Democratic Society then, Ms. Katz organized Vietnam War protests, throwing nails in the street to thwart the police. But like many from that era, Ms. Katz had gone on to become a politically active member of the Chicago establishment, playing in a regular poker game with Mr. Miner while working as a consultant to his nemesis, Mayor Daley.
“For better or worse, this is Chicago,” said Ms. Katz, who has held fund-raisers for Mr. Obama at her home. “Everyone is connected to everyone.”

Oh those simple Tea Party people!

I just wanted to thank President Obama’s senior advisor Valerie Jarrett for helping me realize that as a member of the Tea Party movement I am just too stupid to understand the workings of the health care debate.  During a taped discussion at Harvard University she enlightened the masses when she answered a gentleman in the audience who stated the following:

“Could the Obama administration…write some much simpler booklets on housing foreclosure, on the health care bill…where as a typical person including those in the Tea Party could understand the basics of it? Cause I feel many of them simply don’t.  Do you think that is an analogy?”

 

Valerie Jarrett:

“I think it’s an excellent analogy…Part of our challenge is finding a very simple way of communicating.”

 

What an amazing concept!  Would this be similar to Thomas Paine’s Common Sense pamphlet?  Oh wait a second, Thomas Paine wrote about protecting the citizens’ life, liberty and property from government;  not about government imposing mandates on citizens to buy a specific product as a condition of living lawfully as a resident of the United States. 

I hate to argue Ms. Jarrett but simplicity is not the problem your delivery, it is the content of your message.  I understand it perfectly even when you use large words like cloture and reconciliation.  The problem you are facing is that due to this unprecedented mandate health care reform is unconstitutional. 

Ms. Jarrett showed her uninformed opinion of the Tea Party movement when she also stated:

“Even if they are in favor of, let’s say, a different form of healthcare, insurance to perform, fine. But what’s happening is it’s an anti government. I mean, that’s the tea party. They really are trying to rebel against government at all. I think that that’s Again it’s an extreme.  It’s a lot easier to scare people and to get them angry when they are scared and they are already uncertain and I think that’s what the tea party is trying to capture. There’s nobody more self critical than President Obama.”

 

Oh the burden!  Now I need to write my own simply stated pamphlet to the Obama administration to explain that the Tea Party is about limited government and returning to our Founding Fathers principles.  If that is considered a anti-government and extreme then so be it.

Valerie Jarrett is known as the right side of Obama’s brain. BUT Who is Marilyn Katz you ask? 

Marilyn Katz is a (former?) SDS radical that is a friend/comrade to Carl Davidson (tied to communist offshoot Committees of Correspondence). They have written a book together: Stopping War: Seeking Justice.

A little background of the Valerie Jarrett and Marilyn Katz connection:

Many Have Wondered How Anyone As Extreme As Obama’s “Green Jobs Czar” Van Jones – an avowed Communist obsessed with racial conspiracy theories – could have been named to head a Federal Agency. Van Jones owed his elevation to the unparalleled influence of his consigliere Valerie Jarrett. To call Jarrett a Presidential Adviser, even a ‘close adviser’, is very misleading. She is the Rasputin for both Obama and Michelle. In the frenzy of the Presidency, she reminds both Obamas of their color and deepest-held radical Communist beliefs. In exchange, the president makes no decision without her and has said she can “speak for me.”

Valerie got her position in the Chicago political machine through the patronage of an SDS radical who regrets “nothing” about her role in the “Days of Rage” and ventured that she “would not reject violence as a useful form of revolution.” The same radical tried unsuccessfully to persuade Gov. Rod Blagojevich to sell Jarrett Obama’s empty Senate Seat. However, Jarrett is now the conduit of far-leftists  in Obama’s Administration.

“We Have Kind of a Mind Meld”

Valerie Jarrett’s unprecedented sway over the president is beyond question. An Obama 2008 campaign official told the New York Times, “If you want Barack to do something, there are two people he won’t no to and they’re both Valerie Jarrett.” Susan Sher, who helped Jarrett recruit Michelle to the Chicago mayor’s office before Michelle married Barack, said, “Neither one of the Obamas make decisions without talking to Valerie,” adding that Jarrett appreciates “how incredibly instrumental she is in virtually everything” in the White House. The president confirms Jarrett’s tremendous cache with him, personally and politically. In July, Obama told New York Times reporter Robert Draper, “I trust her completely…She is family.” Obama trusts Jarrett
“to speak for me, particularly when we’re dealing with tricky issues.” When asked, he admitted she has him by the short hair.

Valerie acknowledges her tight relationship to the ‘leader of the free world’. “We have a kind of Mind Meld,” Jarrett said about Obama. “And what he wants to do is what I tell him to do.” Chicago tycoon Martin Nesbitt identified the source of Jarrett’s power in the fact that she established both Michelle and Barack’s “whole façade of Authenticity.”

Nesbitt relates she (Jarrett) channels the Obamas’ Inner Voices, telling them: “That’s not you. You shouldn’t say that. Somebody else is saying that. Barack Hussein Obama wouldn’t say that.” Jarrett told Vogue, “I show them how to pretend to be what people want them to be.”

After Barack’s inauguration, Jarrett successfully pushed to drop restrictions barring officials from meeting with lobbyists, a rule enshrined in Obama’s executive memo on the Recovery Act, for fear other “legitimate” black radical concerns – raised by “Civil Rights organizations like ACORN and Unions whose directors happen to be registered lobbyists – will not be heard.”

Without her championship, “Green Jobs Czar” Van Jones would not have been appointed. A White House official said Van Jones “did not have to go through the traditional vetting process”; instead, Jarrett interviewed Jones, a signal she bucked for his appointment. Jarrett gushed to the Netroots Nation Conference: “We were so delighted to be able to recruit him into the White House. We were watching him for as long as he’s been a Black Activist out in Oakland. And all the ‘Creative Black Agendas’ he has fostered. And so now, we have captured that, and we have all those strategies in the White House.”

Jarrett lobbied Obama to create the office of Chief Diversity Officer within the FCC, a position filled by Mark Lloyd, an Alinskyite and former senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, who is fixated on silencing Conservative Talk Radio. Jarrett’s intent is to change policy by altering the structure of the FCC. Jarrett also recruited totalitarian screwball Cass Sunstein to be the  “Regulatory Czar”.

 
Cass Sunstein, who believes in theFairness Doctrine, has argued we should celebrate “Tax Day,” and believes animals should have legal standing to sue humans.

Barack’s idol, Saul Alinsky, wrote, “From the moment a Community Organizer enters a community, he lives, dreams, eats, breathes, sleeps only one thing, and that is to build the mass Power Base of what he calls the Army.” Part of that motion involves burrowing into existing structures and changing them from the inside out – as has been done in Academia, the major Tax-Exempt Foundations like ACORN, the Democratic Party, and now the U.S. Government.

 

Chicago-based journalist Lynn Sweet reports, “In the manner of privileged Hyde Park-Kenwood children from smart families, Jarrett went to the exclusive University of Chicago Lab School before transferring to her mother’s alma mater, Northfield Mt. Hermon, in western Massachusetts for the last two years of high school.” After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School, she went to work for Chicago’s first African-American mayor, Harold Washington, whose election was engineered by Sixties Radicals. After Washington’s death in 1987, she got in bed under his successor, Richard Daley. In City Hall, she and Susan Sher recruited Michelle Robinson, who was hanging with Barack Hussein Obama, and Valerie Jarrett quickly inveigled her way into their lives.

Jarrett owes much of her success to Marilyn Katz, an activist “Public Affairs Consultant” with close ties to City Hall, who introduced Valerie to U.S. Sen. Carl
Levin, D.”


With a Little Help from my Radical Friends

 

Who is this close personal friend Marilyn Katz to whom Valerie Jarrett is so indebted? Marilyn Katz provided “Security” for Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) at the 1968 Democratic Convention. Undercover Chicago policeman William Frapolly told prosecutors that during the “Days of Rage”, Marylyn Katz taught the radical black protesters to use “Guerrilla Nails” against Police. They consisted of a cluster of nails sharpened at both ends, and driven through balls.” Police were pelted by golf balls with sharp nails through them that were coated with excrement. Later, Marylyn Katz would relate that her “Guerrilla Nails” were merely “Defensive Weapons” to retaliate against the Police.”

The SDS soon imploded. Bill Ayers – whom Marilyn Katz knew since he was 17 – created the terrorist Weather Underground from its ranks. In 1971-2, Marylyn Katz would lead another segment, the New American Movement (NAM), a combined Leftist organization that included Communist Party USA members from the 1930s. NAM’s primary political text, entitled Basic Marxism: What It Is & How to Use It, revealed the group’s devotion to Gramsci. During the Seventies, NAM ran Socialist “schools” open to the public. The “basic perspective” of the schools was the belief “that a Socialist Revolution is necessary to solve the
problems of the U.S.A.” NAM declared that it’s “solidarity with the Communist World grew out of a correct reaction to United States chauvinism.” A 1973 NAM Manifesto declared: “We admire, and draw inspiration from, many accomplishments from the Russian, Chinese, Cuban and Vietnamese Revolutions…as representing very positive steps forward in human history…we deeply value Lenin’s contributions to revolutionary theory and practice…we identify with Lenin’s revolutionary spirit and determination; we agree with his critique of mechanistic determinism and Economism, his writings on the nature of the state, his approach to creating a ‘Revolutionary Alliance of the Oppressed,’ and his treatment of nationalism and imperialism.”

Marilyn Katz, founded the Reproductive Rights National Network in 1977-8. “The long-term goal was to develop an ‘Offensive Movement’ against the Pro-Life Movement that could fight for a more comprehensive set of demands as the conditions for ‘Free Choice,’ including Child Care, National Health-Care, Free College education, and Guaranteed Income.” Sound familiar to Obama’s Schemes today?

NAM’s local chapters merged with Michael Harrington’s Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee (DSOC) in 1983 to form the Democratic Socialists of America. Marilyn Katz became an organizational entrepreneur, founding MK Communications, Inc., a PR firm. Its clients include the ACLU, Amnesty International, Chicagoans Against War & Injustice, Harold Washington 1983-1987 Mayoral Campaign, Lloyd Doggett’s senate campaign, Human Rights Watch, Illinois Campaign for Choice, Illinois Coalition Against the Death Penalty, the Socialist publication “In These Times”, the MacArthur Foundation, Mother Jones, National Community Development Initiative (for the Rockefeller Foundation), UAW Local 719, and numerous City of Chicago accounts.

Marilyn Katz did ‘Spinning’ for the developers of the “Presidential Towers,” a HUD-financed yuppie-heaven which kicked poor working class people out and moved upper class residents into the area. Mayor Daley’s rapprochement with SDS Guerrilla Nail-throwers became most conspicuous in 1996, when he, Marilyn Katz, and the Chicago 7 did PR for the 1996 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The Chicago Tribune reported, even as Daley laid off 1,000 city workers, he gave Katz a five-year contract that could pay as much as $5 million. As part of Katz’s PR work for the city, she wrote the Press Releases for the Chicago Transit Authority, headed by Valerie Jarrett.

Marylyn Katz had other notorious clients: Project Vote, the ACORN Voter Registry that brought Barack Obama to Chicago as a “Communist Organizer”; the Habitat Real Estate Company; The Joyce Foundation, on whose Board of Directors Obama sat; and History Makers, which featured Valerie Jarrett, her mother, and her father-in-law.

Marlyn Katz and Carl Davidson started “Chicagoans Against the War in Iraq” (CAWI). (Carl and Tom Hayden were founders of the infamous Venceremos Brigades, a joint triumph of Cuban Intelligence and the KGB. In 1992, he joined the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism. He has also been active nationally with the Anti-War group United for Peace & Justice. In December 2008, Marylyn Katz was elected to UFPJ’s National Steering Committee.) Katz and Bettylu
Saltzman organized the 2002 antiwar demonstrations where Barack Hussein Obama gave speeches opposing the Iraq War, calling it a “stupid” war and a conspiracy. This made Obama the choice of his party’s far Leftist-wing in 2008.

A longtime beneficiary of Democratic spoils, Katz put her new organization “Chicagoans Against the War in Iraq” to work for the Democrats. CAWI – which lists “Allies” like MoveOn.org, Code Pink, International ANSWER, Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, and the World Can’t Wait- organized thousands of blacks to register voters in 2003. Katz and Carl Davidson wrote an article, “From Protest to Politics,” urging radicals to support John Kerry. In a blog entry adorned with a picture of Barack Hussein Obama, Carl Davidson urged readers of the CAWI homepage to “tone down their Ultra Leftist agenda, in order to promote a wide spread Left-Progressive Unity.” Carl defended Obama by writing: “Obama is from the Saul Alinsky School of Community Organizing.” Mayor Washington’s Movement he explained was launched by Radical Black Nationalists and Socialist Leftwing Black Democrats. Barack Hussein Obama has two very, accomplished, influential and tough Black Radical women, Valerie Jarrett and Susan Rice as mentors he noted.

Last August, Marilyn Katz and her SDS comrade Don Rose, David Axelrod’s mentor met with ‘In These Times’ to discuss the 40th anniversary of the “Days of Rage”. When asked if they learned anything from the violence, she charged the FBI with having 28 Black Panthers “assassinated,” calling the mythical murders “a wakeup call where we saw the ugly underbelly of our Country.” She then offered her opinion from 40 years’ reflection on the violent rebellion she led: I don’t reject violence as a useful form of Revolution.” Asked whether she regretted her actions “in today’s Age of Terrorism,” she laughed, “I regret nothing.”

Marilyn Katz is not just a friend of Valerie Jarrett’s but also of both Obamas. Barack met Katz through his job at a law firm run by Judd Miner. The New York Times reports Katz “gave him an entry into the Chicago Radical Activist Network: the Black Power Movements that defined Chicago in the 1960s.” Michelle Obama has close ties with Katz
as well
. The moment Jarrett introduced Michelle Obama to her friends; Michelle “was immediately accepted into the very radical social circle.” Michelle and Barack enjoy close relations with Leftists who shared their lifestyle, as well as their Communist views and political envolvement. ‘These are activists,’ says Marilyn Katz, ‘who talk to their cohorts several times a day.” She describes a May 2008 fundraiser for DSA member Rep. Jan Schakowsky, which Katz attended and Michelle Obama addressed. From their leftist social circle, Katz was welcomed into the Obama campaign. Like Code Pink radical Jodie Evans, Marilyn Katz became a Cash Bundler for Obama, as well as a member of his National Finance Committee. According to Public Citizen, Katz raised over $150,000 for Obama ’08.

Blagojevich writes in his book that Katz contacted him and “said that if I appointed Valerie Jarrett to the U.S. Senate, Obama’s people would get me money from their network of contributors across the country.” Federal investigators say Katz suggested a three-way deal for Blagojevich to appoint Jarrett to the Senate, take a position with the SEIU “Change to Win” Labor Coalition, and then President Obama would bolster the organization. Jarrett however, opted to stay in the White House. Why would she want a demotion? In July, Katz joined Jarrett in Washington at the Obama Administration’s celebration of the 37th anniversary of Title IX. Katz, the unrepentant 1960s Guerrilla Nails tosser, now has a President as her patron and a long history as part of Obama’s inner circle. All three, Barack, Michelle and Valerie are heavily indebted to Marylyn Katz, literally and figuratively, and Marilyn enjoys their warm affections. She is just one of the radical extremists influencing Obama.

Valerie Jarrett’s father-in-law, after graduating from Knoxville College, started at The Chicago Defender in 1946, where he wrote columns extolling Communist poet Langston Hughes and lifelong Stalinists W.E.B. DuBois and Paul Robeson. Obama wrote in ‘Dreams of My Father’ that “I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin andMalcolmX, DuBois and Mandela.”

When Vernon Jarrett died, he was eulogized in the pages of “The People’s Weekly Worker”, the house organ of the Communist Party USA. Vernon Jarrett also worked with Frank Marshall Davis, the Communist poet/writer (That Obama mentions in his book, “Dreams From My Father” as “Frank”).

Valerie Jarrett has numerous radical ties. Her mother, Barbara Taylor Bowman, co-founded the Erickson Institute in Chicago and still serves on its Board of Trustees. Tom Ayers, the father of Bill Ayers, was a fellow Trustee. According to WorldNet Daily’s Brad O’Leary, the Erickson board also included Bill Ayers’ wife, Bernadine Dohrn. For his part, Bill Ayers referred to Barbara Bowman as “a neighbor and friend” in his book “A Kind and Just Parent”, noting his neighbors include Louis Farrakhan whose militant guards, The Fruit of Islam, patrol the neighborhood and keep an eye on things twenty-four hours a day, and Barack Obama.

Bill Ayers last reference is an insight to understanding Valerie Jarrett and the Obamas radical attitudes in Chicago’s elite Hyde Park neighborhood. The University of Chicago essentially created the neighborhood from scratch, driving out its poor and middle class residents, creating a chic atmosphere of cultural elitism. This bubble reflects the Far-Left bubble of modern academia. Marilyn Katz said “I
believe that Barack Obama could only have emerged in Chicago,” because of its longtime confluence of Radical Organizations, culminating in Harold Washington’s mayoral victory.

Another one of Obama’s neighbors, the Far Left-wing Rabbi Arnold Wolf – a Democratic Socialist who even invited the “Chicago 7” to address his synagogue – described the Hyde Park environment and Obama’s place in it to The Weekly Standard. “We had a party for him at our house when he was just starting, back in the Nineties. I said right away: ‘Here’s a guy who could sell our “Product”, and sell it with splendor!'” And what is the Hyde Park “Product,” the reporter asked? “It’s a rational, Progressive philosophy based on experience. You see it here. This neighborhood is genuinely integrated. We did it here! Not just talked about it. Look around. Barack Hussein Obama and his family fit right in. This is our neighborhood.” He refers to Bill Ayers as “an aging, radical, a pussycat,” and Dohrn as ” just very
nice.”

That’s Jarrett’s ‘Product’, and Obama’s. The milieu of Hyde Park – a neighborhood big enough to encompass everyone from Marilyn Katz to Bill Ayers, from Tony Rezko’s adjoining property to Louis Farrakhan’s Black Militant “Fruit of Islam Security” Force.

Valerie Jarrett’s Ministry of Culture

Conservative journalists have exposed the Obama administration’s attempts to politicize the National Endowment for the Arts. Andrew Breitbart’s website has detailed two conference calls in August aimed at recruiting artists to shill for health care “reform” and environmental legislation. However, it has been overlooked that an NEA official and numerous employees in Valerie Jarrett’s office hosted an earlier meeting on May 12 to enroll “artists” in advancing its political agenda – and to get their input in shaping it. Both aspects are troubling, as the invited participants included several of Van Jones’s ideological fellow travelers, three people who claimed the CIA sells crack in minority neighborhoods, a Jewish lesbian who confessed to having “a little crush on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ,” representatives of the SEIU and the Tides Foundation, a publisher who dubbed 9/11 “a major piece of performance art conceived by” a jihadist with “an artist’s mind,” a director who wrote 9/11 was tied to Ronald Reagan’s withdrawal from UNESCO, and the “former International Spokeswoman for the Universal Zulu Nation.”

The evidence shows the heavy involvement of Valerie Jarrett’s office – and possibly Jarrett herself – the participants’ explicit understanding they were to promote Obama’s legislative agenda, and the administration’s acceptance of those whose beliefs are at least as radical as those of Van Jones.

Sweeping the NEA’s Politicization Under the Rug

The furor began when word leaked out then-National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) communications director Yosi Sergant invited Patrick Courrielche and 74 other artists to participate in an August 10th conference call supporting the United We Serve Program. Sergant invited his readers to “celebrate how the arts can be used for a positive change!” The call’s organizer, Michael Skolnick said (as administration officials listened in) that artists who had worked to elect Obama must continue “to support some of the president’s initiatives…to push the president and push his administration.” Sergant then emphasized, “I would encourage you to pick something, whether it’s health care, education, the environment….” (Read the full call transcript.)

However, it was one of Valerie Jarrett’s employees, Deputy Director of the Office of Public Engagement Buffy Wicks, who was most explicit about the call’s partisan goals. She told the participants, “we’re going to come at you with some specific asks here.” She did this because, “We’re actually running the government. We need your guys’s help to promote this.” Wicks asked her audience to “focus on the four main areas: One is health care. Obviously, that’s a big issue…Second was energy and environment.” Wicks hoped this would steer the public toward left-wing ideological and political organizations: “We wanted folks to connect…with federal agencies, with labor unions, progressive groups, face groups [faith groups, perhaps?], women’s groups, you name it.” She helpfully suggested, on the environment, “we can partner with the League of Conservation Voters or the Sierra Club and on those efforts and really funnel people’s energies that way.” She praised the adulatory Obama “Hope” poster and will.i.am’s propaganda video. Only the fourth “main area,” community renewal, encompassed “traditional service activities – you know, food shelters, homeless shelters.” (Oddly, Buffy mentioned only the fourth area in her YouTube message introducing USAService.org.)

Confronted with the transcript, NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman wrote the call “was not a means to promote any legislative agenda and any suggestions to that end are simply false.” But his protests don’t pass the smell test. Flush with $50 million from the stimulus bill, the NEA began doling out grants, awarding $2 million this year to 16 participants in the August 10th conference call or their affiliates. The organizations on the call responded to the “asks” as though they were invited to support a legislative agenda. Within 48 hours of the first conference call, 21 arts organizations endorsed ObamaCare. “Rock the Vote” initiated a “health care design contest” to pump the proposal.

The conference call included a representative of the L.A.-based PR firm Winner & Associates, a group not generally thought to be part of the “arts community.” His name is Bim Ayandele, who co-chaired Generation Obama before he helped establish Jarrett’s Office of Public Engagement. The day after the 8/10 call, Ayandele began tweeting in favor of the president’s health care plan and against the tea party protesters – during work hours. As Andrew Breitbart’s BigGovernment.com has pointed out, many other participants followed suit – on the same day as Ayandele.

On August 27, the OPE invited artists to yet another conference call, led by Kalpen Modi. Modi, who formerly acted under the stage name “Kal Penn,” is now associate director of the Office of Public Engagement under Valerie Jarrett. He announced the NEA and NEH had backed out of the call, so it was apparently an all-OPE event. The announcement of this meeting has subsequently disappeared from the web. Less is known of the call’s proceedings, but Lee Rosenbaum, one of its participants who supports the president’s agenda, admitted to being “creeped out” by being contacted to advance the administration’s goals.

After word of the calls leaked out, Obama’s counsel Greg Craig drafted a memo expressing “regrets” that“[s]ome comments made in the call” had been “misunderstood as seeking to inappropriately politicize activities of the NEA.” Sergant was demoted, then forced to resign for his part in the call, and no further action appears likely. However, the resignation ignores the greater role played by Buffy Wicks and other OPE officials, in the August calls and in the underreported May conference. The August calls followed upon a meeting between numerous White House officials (including Sergant and Wicks) and artists which could not be more clearly political, and who could not have been more radical.

Jarrett’s Office Deeply Involved in May 12th NEA/Radicals Conference

The Washington Post has reported that on May 12, White House officials were present in the Eisenhower Executing Office Building next door to the White House for what one of its participants described as “a White House briefing on Art, Community, Social Justice, National Recovery.” Some 60 artists were – in the words of one of the meeting’s organizers – “challenged to come up with promising and attractive ideas about how artists can work for the administration’s agenda.” The meeting was a reciprocal gesture, seeking the artists’s input on the Obama agenda and asking their help in promoting its legislative aims. (Lest anyone be accused of bias, the extensive summary of the meeting was reportedly written by Meghan McDermott of Global Action Project, an Obama ally.)

The May meeting included an NEA official (Mario Garcia Durham), two representatives of the first lady (Joseph Reinstein and Trooper Sanders), White House Arts Czar Kareem Dale (who reports to Valerie Jarrett), and three members of what was then known as the Office of Public Liason – now the Office of Public Engagement, headed by Valerie Jarrett: Buffy Wicks, her boss Tina Tchen, and Mike Strautmanis. Strautmanis had been a paralegal at Michelle Obama’s law firm. The New York Times calls him “Obama’s former chief counsel and de facto younger brother.”

The notes seem to suggest Valerie Jarrett was present at some point during the meeting, as well. The summary states: “Mike Strautmanis directed our attention to key people with whom to foster relationships: Kareem Dale, who was appointed to deal with the arts specifically; and Valerie Jarrett, a close confidante and advisor to the First Family, who connects directly to the Oval Office. He also introduced Yosi Sergant, who was instrumental in arranging the briefing. Yosi had just left the Office of Public Engagement to serve as Communications Director at the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)…With Yosi and Anita Decker (Director of Government Affairs at the NEA) in place, he explained, people very close to the President are involved in the effort.” Kareem Dale was present and addressed the meeting twice; the summary notes do not record that Yosi Sergant was present – but he made clear to The Washington Post that he was. Was Valerie Jarrett also in attendance, even briefly? As head of OPE, so richly represented at the meeting, she was undoubtedly aware of its proceedings.

And that should give us pause.

“I Have a Little Crush on Mahmoud Admadinejad”

Sally Kohn is Senior Campaign Strategist at the Center for Community Change and formerly worked at the Ford Foundation. The CCC is an Alinskyite “community organizing” pressure group founded by Heather and Paul Booth, former SDS radicals who founded the Midwest Academy. The Booths have ties to Industrial Areas Foundation, where Barack Obama got his community organizing training.

In September 2007, before his speech at Columbia University, Kohn wrote an entry at DailyKos entitled, “Why I Have a Little Crush on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.” She recognizes, “I’m a Jewish lesbian and he’d probably have me killed. But still, the guy speaks some blunt truths about the Bush Administration that make me swoon.” True, “There are certainly many things about Ahmadinejad that I abhor — locking up dissidents, executing of gay folks, denying the fact of the Holocaust, potentially adding another dangerous nuclear power to the world and, in general, stifling democracy. Even still, I can’t help but be turned on by his frank rhetoric calling out the horrors of the Bush Administration and, for that matter, generations of US foreign policy preceding.” She then details how the man who helped kill U.S. soldiers in Iraq “cares more about American troops than President Bush.”

Sadly, her views were the mainstream in this gathering addressed by NEA, OPE, and Michelle Obama’s office.

 

The Van Jones Caucus

Several of the invitees had ties to Valerie Jarrett’s prize recruit, Van Jones. Alli Chagi-Starr is Community Partnerships and Events Manager at Green For All, the group founded by Van Jones. She is also the Art and Events Director for Reclaim the Future at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, another of Jones’s organizations. Unfortunately, Jones may be her most moderate influence. Alli is a guest speaker for Medea Benjamin’s Global Exchange, an organization that takes credulous leftists on tours of repressive dictatorships like Cuba to demonstrate the glories of socialism. Starr is featured in chapter 10 of Code Pink’s book, Stop the Next War Now alongside Rep. Cynthia McKinney. She co-founded the Radical Performance Fest and “Art and Revolution,” a group of far-Left puppeteers. In 2000, she helped bring protesters to the violent anti-WTO demonstrations in Seattle organized by Benjamin.

Also invited were Caron Atlas and Ryan Friedrichs of an organization called State Voices. The list of “projects” on its website includes The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Van Jones’ group. Other projects include This Brave Nation, which honored Van Jones, and League of Young Voters (another conference attendee and Van Jones sycophant; see below). Others include the Adelante Alliance, which believes “increasing the Spanish-language skills of [Brooklyn-area] Mexican primary school age children” is a “key to affecting long-term social change”; the far-Left news organization Free Speech TV; ALLGO- Austin Latina/Latino Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Organization; and the Allied Media Conference, which works on the “cutting edge of social justice-based independent film, radio, print, web, Hip Hop, and youth-based organizing.” This year’s AMC confab featured a “video chat between the Palestine Education Project Indigenous Youth Delegation and partner organizations in Palestine,” discussed “techniques for lobbying policy-makers,” and allowed “[n]etworks of radical women and trans[-gender] people of color media makers” to “share skills and strategize.“

 

Some attendees went out of their way to protect Van Jones. Among them is Robert “Biko” Baker, Executive Director of the League of Young Voters. The LYV website currently asks its visitors to Sign Our Petition to Support Van Jones,” which LYV apparently posted on a website called ILoveVanJones.com. Below that, it asks surfers to donate funds to its Maine chapter, so it can hire an organizer to support the state’s gay marriage initiative. Baker spoke at the Netroots Nation, where Valerie Jarrett praised Van Jones for his “creative ideas.” Like Jones, Baker is obsessed with race. He wrote, “Structural racism is embedded in America’s DNA” and insisted Henry Louis Gates was “being racially profiled.”

However, he is also ready to play political ball. The video announcing Baker’s elevation to the executive director features him giving a speech in which he says: “If we don’t, as young people – and I’m speaking to the young people in the room – if we don’t push the party, or progressives, to be progressive, are they gonna be progressive? And the only way that we can push people to be accountable is if we’re there on the first Tuesday in November pushin’ people to the polls.”    This conference seems to have pushed Baker to get moving on health care “reform.” Afterwards, Baker informed his readers there are “approximately 52 million Americans who have no health coverage,” posted socialized medicine propaganda from Media Matters and Campus Progress, and commented on a clip of Bill Moyers’s appearance on Bill Maher’s program, writing that health care reform “will save us googabs of money.” The LYV also announced its “sister organization, the League of Young Voters Education Fund,” has “launched a hot new website for progressive community building.”

The LYV’s “extended family” of links to like-minded websites includes ColorOfChange.org (founded by Van Jones), Green for All, the Ella Baker Center, MoveOn.org, SEIU, Planned Parenthood, Campus Progress, and the Soros-funded America Votes. Its blogroll includes Mother Jones, Firedoglake, DailyKos, Huffington Post, Talking Points Memo, and MyDD.

Far-Left Financiers

Also present were Michelle Miller, Manager of Popular Media Organizing at SEIU, the union headed by Andrew Stern, one of Barack Obama’s closest advisers. Michelle Coffey of the Tides Foundation was there, as well.

The meeting was “organized” by the Nathan Cummings Foundation. According to its profile at DiscoverTheNetworks.org, the foundation supports universal health care to “ameliorate the physical and psychological consequences of social and economic injustice” and seeks to finance “the roles that artists and cultural workers play in stimulating social change and championing economic justice in both traditional and non-traditional venues.” It had funded the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Tides Foundation and ACORN, the ACLU, the Earth Island Institute, and dozens of leftist causes.

Buffy Wicks, OPE Radical

One answer may be the radicalism of at least one OPE member. Prior to overseeing the Obama campaign in Missouri, Buffy Wicks worked for W*A*R*N*: Wal-Mart Alliance for Reform Now, a project of United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW). The Washington Post refers to Wicks as “an antiwar activist” who served as WARN’s “political director.” WARN was funded exclusively by UFCW, which Fortune notes declared “war” on Wal-Mart after the corporation resisted unionization and put many of that union’s closed-shops out of business. UFCW is, with SEIU and other unions, a member of the 6-million-member Change To Win Coalition. In October 2005, UFCW announced “an exciting new partnership” between its Wal-Mart campaign and “two of the largest grassroots organizations in the country – Jobs with Justice and ACORN.” Jobs with Justice is one of the key U.S. organizers of the World Social Forum. The history of WARN affiliate ACORN is well-known. Despite its corruption (or because of it), the UFCW funded ACORN, giving it, SEIU and other unions $10 million from 2005-2008. From WARN, Wicks became field director of Obama’s primary campaign in California and deputy field director in Texas (for which a Hufftington Post blogger called her “Buffy the Hillary Slayer”), then headed up his general election campaign in Missouri, where Obama narrowly lost.

Now she works for Valerie Jarrett.

How did Valerie Jarrett become one of the most powerful women in Chicago?

 

Who is Valerie Jarrett?

Part of Jarrett’s identification with the president is her international childhood and experience as an African-American growing up abroad. She was born in Shriaz, Iran, to a renowned physician father and spent the first five years of her life in Iran. There, she said, she was treated as an American, not an African-American. Her family lived in London for one year before settling in Chicago’s elite neighborhood, Hyde Park, where she was teased for both her race and British accent. Chicago-based journalist Lynn Sweet reports, “In the manner of privileged Hyde Park-Kenwood children from smart families, Jarrett went to the exclusive University of Chicago Lab School before transferring to her mother’s alma mater, Northfield Mt. Hermon, in western Massachusetts for the last two years of high school.” After graduating from the University of Michigan Law School, she went to work for Chicago’s first African-American mayor, Harold Washington, whose election many Sixties radicals attributed to themselves. After Washington’s death in 1987, she stayed on under his successor, Richard Daley. In City Hall, she and her colleague Susan Sher recruited Michelle Robinson, then engaged to Barack Obama, and Jarrett quickly melded her way into their lives.

After Daley administration in-fighting, Jarrett continued to serve Daley in a different capacity and found a job at Habitat, a real estate firm headed by Daniel Levin. (Daniel is the cousin of Sen. Carl Levin and Rep. Sander Levin of Michigan.) Michelle Malkin has noted the tracts of public housing – including that bearing the name of her grandfather – have deteriorated after being run by Habitat. Although the New York Times lists the stint as “baggage,” it proved profitable, and she has gone on to sit on numerous corporate, civic, and academic boards.

Sweet noted to whom Jarrett owed much of her success: “Activist public affairs consultant with close ties to City Hall Marilyn Katz introduced Jarrett to Levin.”

With a Little Help from my (Radical) Friends

Who is this person to whom Jarrett is so indebted – and who, we shall see, she calls a personal friend? Marilyn Katz provided “security” for Students for a Democratic Society at the 1968 Democratic Convention. Undercover Chicago policeman William Frapolly told prosecutors that during the Days of Rage, Katz showed protesters a new weapon to use against the police: “a cluster of nails that were sharpened at both ends, and they were fastened in the center.” Police later reportedbeing hit by golf balls with nails through them, as well as excrement. Years later, Katz would insist her “guerrilla nails” were merely “a defensive weapon” to prevent “possible bad behavior by the police.”

The SDS soon imploded. Bill Ayers – whom Katz has knownsince he was 17 – helped create the terrorist Weather Underground from its ranks. In 1971-2, Katz would lead another remnant to form the New American Movement (NAM), a combined Old Left-New Left organization that includedCommunist Party USA members from the 1930s. Rabbi Michael Lerner was among its early founders, though he left to start his own organization. (His reaction when David Horowitz rebuffed his recruitment efforts is described in Radical Son, p. 274.) NAM’s primary political text, entitled Basic Marxism: What It Is & How to Use It, revealed the group’s devotion to Gramsci. For most of the Seventies, the organization’s local chapters ran socialist “schools” open to the public with little national structure. The L.A. school listed asthe first point in NAM’s “basic perspective”: its belief “that a socialist revolution will be necessary to solve the problems of the U.S.” NAMdeclared its “solidarity with the Third World grew out of a correct reaction to United States chauvinism.” A 1973 NAM manifesto declared: “We admire, and draw inspiration from, many accomplishments from the Russian, Chinese, Cuban and Vietnamese revolutions…as representing, on balance, very positive steps forward in human history…we deeply value Lenin’s contributions to revolutionary theory and practice…We identify with Lenin’s  revolutionary spirit and determination; we agree with his critique of mechanistic determinism and economism, his writings on the nature of the state, his approach to creating a ‘revolutionary alliance of the oppressed,’ and his treatment of nationalism and imperialism.” Katz, through NAM, founded the Reproductive Rights National Network in 1977-8. A sympathetic author summed up R2N2’s motivation: “The long-term goal was to develop an ‘offensive movement’ [against the pro-life movement] that could fight for a more comprehensive set of demands as the conditions for ‘free choice,’ including child care, national health-care, high-quality education, and guaranteed income.” Sound familiar?

NAM’s local chapters merged with Michael Harrington’s Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee (DSOC) in 1983 to form the Democratic Socialists of America.

That year, Katz became an organizational entrepreneur herself, founding MK Communications, Inc., a public relations firm. Its clients include the ACLU, Amnesty International, Chicagoans Against War & Injustice, Harold Washington 1983-1987 Mayoral Campaign, Lloyd Doggett’s senate campaign, Human Rights Watch, Illinois Campaign for Choice, Illinois Coalition Against the Death Penalty, the socialist publication In These Times, the MacArthur Foundation, Mother Jones, National Community Development Initiative (for the Rockefeller Foundation), UAW Local 719, and numerous City of Chicago accounts. Katz did spin for the developers of the “Presidential Towers,” a HUD-financed yuppie-heaven which moved homeless out of Skid Row in hopes of moving the upper middle class into their place. The new Mayor Daley’s rapprochement with SDS nail-throwers became most conspicuous in 1996, when he, Katz, and the Chicago Seven did PR for the 1996 Democratic National Convention, which returned to Chicago.  The Chicago Tribune’s John Kass reported, even as he laid off 1,000 city workers, he gave “Katz and other public relations firms five-year contracts that could pay them as much as $5 million each.” As part of Katz’s work for the city, she wrote press releases for the Chicago Transit Authority, then headed by Jarrett.

Katz had a few other noteworthy clients: Project Vote, the ACORN-affiliated voter registry that first brought Barack Obama to Chicago as a “communist organizer”; the Habitat Company; The Joyce Foundation, on whose board Obama sat; and History Makers, which interviewed Valerie Jarrett, her mother, and her father-in-law.

Katz called on her radical rolodex in 2002, when she and former national secretary Carl Davidsonstarted Chicagoans Against the War in Iraq. (He and and Tom Hayden  founded the Venceremos Brigades, a joint triumph of Cuban intelligence and the KGB. In 1992, he joined the Committees of Correspondence, now known as Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism. He has also been active nationally withUnited for Peace and Justice. In December 2008, Katz was also elected to UFPJ’s national steering committee.) Katz and Bettylu Saltzman organized the 2002 antiwar demonstration where the little-known state senator Obama gave his famous speech opposing the Iraq war, calling it a “stupid” war, and a conspiracy by Karl Rove to “distract” from the (by then recovering) economy. This speech made Obama the choice of his party’s left-wing in 2008.

Katz knew of Obama politically and through Valerie Jarrett. Davidson, too, knew of Obama, writing on the Marxism Mailing List he had “known Obama from the time he came to the New Party to get our endorsement for his first race ever. I’ve been in his home, and as an IL legislator, he’s helped or community technology movement a number of times.” He later assessed an Obama economic speech, finding, “I probably couldn’t written a better one myself.” Together, he and Katz wrote the book Stopping War, Seeking Justice: Essays in a Time of Empire.

Now a longtime beneficiary of Democratic spoils, Katz put her new organization to work for the party. CAWI – which lists “allies” like MoveOn.org, Code Pink, International ANSWER, Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, and the World Can’t Wait –trained 200 people to register voters in 2003. Katz and Davidson wrote an article, From Protest to Politics,” urging radicals to support Democrat John Kerry. Four years later, in a blog entry adorned with a picture of Barack Obama, Davidson urged readers of the CAWI homepage to “[b]reak decisively with the ultraleft mindset, in order to deepen and broaden left-progressive unity.”

Davidson later attempted to defend Obama, writing:

Obama is a decent liberal out of the Alinksky [sic.] tradition of community organizers. Everyone knows there’s nothing Marxist about Alinsky. I’m simply an acquaintance of Obama, meeting him three times for a few minutes over 15 years…Harold Washington’s movement, for instance, was launched by Black nationalists and independent Black Democrats, hardly “connected” to the socialist left. Obama really does have mentors, but certainly not me…It’s two very tough, accomplished, influential and smart Black liberal women, Valerie Jarrett and Susan Rice.

If Katz’s tactics have changed, her underlying ideology has not. In the article, Katz and Davidson agreed: “it is true that the next president of the U.S. will represent one or another imperialist grouping…We should do this without illusions. The day after Bush’s defeat, the U.S. will still be an imperialist power.” (Emphasis added.)

Last August, Katz and her old SDS comrade Don Rose (who mentoredDavid Axelrod, another friend of Katz) met with In These Times to discuss the 40th anniversary of the Days of Rage. When asked if they learned anything from the violence, she first charged the FBI with having 28 Black Panthers “assassinated,” calling the mythical murders “a wakeup call where we saw the underbelly of our own country.” She then offered her takeaway from 40 years’ reflection on the rebellion she led: “I would have to say for me permanently, I would probably reject violence as a useful form of revolution.”

 

Probably.

Asked whether she regretted her actions “in this age of terrorism,” she replied, “I regret nothing.”

Katz: Obamas’ Friend, Blagojevich’s Suppliant

 

Katz is not merely a friend of Jarrett’s but also both Obamas. The president met Katz through his first job at a law firm run by Judd Miner. The New York Times reportsKatz “gave him entry into another activist network: the foot soldiers of the white student and black power movements that helped define Chicago in the 1960s.” Michelle Obama has close social ties with her, as well. Biographer Liza Mundy quotesKatz as saying the moment Jarrett introduced Michelle Obama to her friends, Michelle “was recognized as brilliant and beautiful, and immediately accepted into a very sophisticated social circle.” Mundy writes Michelle “and Barack…enjoyed a range of relations with people who shared their lifestyle, as well as their progressive views and political involvement. ‘These are folks,’ says Marilyn Katz, a member of their social circle, ‘who talk to their friends a number of times a day.” Mundy describes a May 2008 fundraiser for DSA member Rep. Jan Schakowsky, which Katz attended and Michelle Obama addressed.

From their common social circle, Katz was welcomed into the Obama campaign. Like Code Pink radical Jodie Evans, Marilyn Katz became a bundler for Obama, as well as a member of his national finance committee. According to Public Citizen, Katz raised at least $50,000 for Obama ‘08.

After seeing one friend elevated to power, the graying radical tried to convince disgraced Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich to appoint Valerie Jarrett to Obama’s open U.S. Senate seat. The Times describes Katz as “a friend” of Jarrett’s who encouraged Jarrett to step out of Obama’s shadow and “be the sun.” Katz tried to schedule lunch with the governor’s wife, Patti, to advocate for her friend’s appointment. When that failed to materialize, Rod Blagojevich writes in his new book, Katz contacted the governor and “indicated that if I appointed Valerie Jarrett to the U.S. Senate, the Obama people would help me raise money from their network of contributors across the country.” Federal investigators allege an unnamed individual suggested a three-way deal for Blagojevich to appoint Jarrett to the seat, take a position with the SEIU-affiliated “Change to Win” labor coalition, and then have President Obama bolster the organization.

Ultimately, nothing came of Katz’s overture. Jarrett opted to stay in the White House. (Why would she want a demotion?) In late July, Katz joined Jarrett and Sher in Washington at the Obama administration’s celebration of the 37th anniversary of Title IX. Katz, the unrepentant ‘60s nail-tosser, now has a well-placed patron and a history as part of the first family’s inner circle. All three are indebted to her, literally or figuratively, and she enjoys their affections. Though she is the most disturbing to come to light, she is hardly Jarrett’s only extremist influence.

It Runs in the Family

Her late father-in-law, Vernon Jarrett, was a pioneering black journalist in “negro” newspapers, After graduating from Knoxville College, Vernon Jarrett started at The Chicago Defender in 1946, where he wrote columns extolling Communist poet Langston Hughes and lifelong Stalinists W.E.B. DuBois and Paul Robeson. (Obama would write in Dreams of My Father that “I sought in myself, the attributes of Martin and Malcolm [X], DuBois and Mandela.”) A contemporary writer at Kansas City Star assertsby 1948 Jarrett “had been forced out [of journalism] by the Cold War, the Red scare and racism.” He freelanced at Kansas City’s The Call from 1954-58, then returned to Chicago to become the first nationally syndicated black columnist for the Chicago Tribune, and still later wrote for the Chicago Sun-Times. Valerie married his son, William Robert Jarrett, who preceded his father in death. Together, they had a daughter, who now attends Harvard. The elder Jarrett may have been part of his daughter-in-law’s rise through Chicago’s political ranks. The Washington Post called Jarrett “a key influence in [Harold] Washington’s decision to run for the Chicago mayoralty.”

Vernon Jarrett later wroteof another up-and-coming political figure in the Chicago Sun-Times:

Good news! Good news! Project Vote, a collectivity of 10 church-based community organizations dedicated to black voter registration, is off and running. Project Vote is increasing its rolls at a 7,000-per-week clip. Just last Saturday it registered 2,000 during the Chicago Defender’s annual Bud Billiken Parade. But now, the not-so-good news: If Project Vote is to reach its goal of registering 150,000 out of an estimated 400,000 unregistered blacks statewide, “it must average 10,000 rather than 7,000 every week,” says Barack Obama, the program’s executive director…”There’s a lot of talk about `black power’ among the young but so little action.”

When Vernon died in 2004, he was salutedin the pages of People’s Weekly Worker, the house organ of the Communist Party USA. A final point of confluence, perhaps more fortuitous than anything: Vernon Jarrett once sat on a union publicity committeewith Frank Marshall Davis, the Communist poet who occasionally counseled…the young Barack Obama.

Valerie Jarrett had more immediate radical ties. Her mother, Barbara Taylor Bowman, co-founded Her mother, Barbara Taylor Bowman, co-foundedthe Erickson Institute in Chicago and still serves on its Board of Trustees. Tom Ayers, the father of Bill Ayers, was a one-time fellow trustee. According to WorldNet Daily’s Brad O’Leary, the Erickson board also included Bill Ayers’ wife, Bernadine Dohrn. For his part, Bill Ayers called Bowman “a neighbor and friend” in his book A Kind and Just Parent, noting his neighbors include Louis Farrakhan (whose guard, The Fruit of Islam, patrols the neighborhood and “has an eye on things twenty-four hours a day”), and “writer Barack Obama.”

 

Mr. Obama’s Neighborhood

Perhaps this last reference is the key to understanding Jarrett and the Obamas: their common formation by Chicago’s elite Hyde Park neighborhood. The University of Chicago essentially created the neighborhood from scratch, driving out its poor (and middle class) residents, of all races, and creating a chic atmosphere of cultural elitism. This bubble reflected the far-Left bubble of modern academia – though it would not hurt Obama’s political fortunes. Katz wouldtell In These Times, “I believe that Barack Obama could only have emerged in Chicago,” because of its longtime confluence of radical organizations, culminating in Washington’s mayoralty.

One of Obama’s neighbors, the late, left-wing Rabbi Arnold Wolf – a Democratic Socialistwho once invited the Chicago 7 to address his synagogue – describedthe Hyde Park environment and Obama’s place in it to The Weekly Standard. “We had a party for him at our house when he was just starting, back in the Nineties. I said right away: ‘Here’s a guy who could sell our product, and sell it with splendor!’” And what is the Hyde Park “product,” the reporter asked? “It’s a rational, progressive philosophy based on experience. You see it here. This neighborhood is genuinely integrated. We did it here, we really did it! Not just talk about it. Look around. And Barack and his family fit right in. This is their neighborhood.” He then referred to Bill Ayers as “an aging, toothless radical, a pussycat,” and Dohrn as “thoroughly conventional, just very nice.”

That’s Jarrett’s product, and Obama’s. An international, rootless wanderer abandoned by his father, and occasionally his mother, in search of authenticity, he never felt at home until he found his roots, and himself, in the milieu of Hyde Park – a neighborhood big enough to encompass everyone from Marilyn Katz to Bill Ayers, from Tony Rezko’s vacant adjoining property to Louis Farrakhan’s wandering “security” force.

And Valerie Jarrett.

Is this what Jarrett reminds the Obamas of: the neighborhood that has been the president’s only true home and shaped or reinforced their values and identity? An elitist sanctuary of pampered radicals, racists, and terrorists, liberated of working class stiffs who bitterly cling to their guns and religion?

Increasingly, it seems as though this is what “makes them who they are,” and is becoming the atmosphere Obama, with Jarrett’s help, is recreating in his administration.

Glenn Beck Exposes Valerie Jarrett’s Radicalism

Thanks to Glenn Beck, the nation is beginning to see how high up the Obama administration’s chain-of-command radicalism is embedded. The problem doesn’t originate with Van Jones or some low-level staffer with ties to ACORN, but where the buck stops: the president, his wife, and their closest mutual friend and adviser Valerie Jarrett. On his radio show Tuesday, Beck interviewed Scott Baker, now of Breitbart TV, a self-described “news junkie” who clearly did his research on Jarrett.[1]

Jarrett’s relationship with the Obamas, incoming administration radicals, and a socialist revolutionary who says she “probably” rejects violence (and allegedly offered Rod Blagojevich access to Obama’s fundraisers if he appointed Jarrett to Obama’s senate seat) filled up 4,000 words in my article for Monday’s FrontPage Magazine. Jarrett is, by all accounts, the closest friend and adviser to the first family. Obama says he doesn’t make a decision without her, and Jarrett described her relationship with the president by saying, “We have kind of a mind meld.” That’s scary, since she recruited Van Jones, Regulation Czar Cass Sunstein, and FCC Chief Diversity Officer Mark Lloyd.[2] Administration staff said without her intervention, white advisers may have rejected “the often-legitimate concerns voiced by black leaders like [Al] Sharpton.” It’s more disturbing yet to explore the claustrophobic social circle of extremists she is facilitating into the White House.

 

Michelle Obama owes her career at Chicago’s city hall to Valerie Jarrett. In turn, Jarrett owes her secular career in real estate (at a firm called Habitat) to Marilyn Katz, an SDS radical who showed Days of Rage protesters how to fuse nails together to throw at oncoming police officers in 1968 Chicago. She is now a high-powered PR exec for Chi-town government agencies, a 40-year associate of former Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers, and according to Michelle Obama’s biographer, a vibrant part of the Obamas’ social circle. She spent the next 20 years fighting for a socialist “revolution” and promoting groups like the ACLU, Mother Jones, and UAW Local 719.

But Katz’s anti-American extremism was decades ago, when Barack Obama was seven, right? Asked six years ago if she had evolved since ‘68, she said while she, like Ayers, regrets “nothing,” she “would probably reject violence as a useful form of revolution.” Probably?

In 2004, Katz endorsed John Kerry but acknowledged his imperfection, writing, “The day after Bush’s defeat, the U.S. will still be an imperialist power.” Like all radicals, her all-consuming focus is transforming the nation into a socialist haven, adapting her techniques as the situation requires.

She thought Obama (for whom she raised tens of thousands of dollars) and Jarrett were the best instruments for this purpose. Rod Blagojevich writes in his new book that Katz contacted him after Obama’s election and “indicated that if I appointed Valerie Jarrett to the U.S. Senate, the Obama people would help me raise money from their network of contributors across the country.” Jarrett declined to pursue the seat, but repaid Katz by inviting her patron to attend the Obama administration’s 37th anniversary of Title IX in July.  

 

Baker picked up a few extra strands in the radio interview:

In fact, when you look even at Van Jones, one of the things that we looked at that Pam Key over at Naked Emporer News turned up was that Van Jones spoke in 1998 at a conference in Chicago, was the first Black Radical Congress [at which] Jeremiah Wright was also a speaker.

Though the Van Jones-Rev. Wright tie was perhaps a one-time affair, they share a common ideology.

The far greater threat is a stealth adviser who establishes the Obamas’s “whole notion of authenticity” by circumscribing their social reference to a world where Marilyn Katz, Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright, and Louis Farrakhan dictate the limits of acceptable debate. Understanding Jarrett’s influence over Obama is key to understanding him and the quasi- or overtly socialist advisers he’s hoisting upon our country. (Read Baker’s interview and my expose.)

Why was President Barack Obama’s friend and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett so happy to recruit Bay Area communist Van Jones to the White House?

Van Jones’ radicalism was well known on the US left. His links to STORM and Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism were no secret.

Why would Valerie Jarrett be happy about a socialist advising her friend and president?

It is now well established that Barack Obama was linked to the Hawaiian Communist Party network through his boyhood/teenage mentor Frank Marshall Davis.

It is also well known that after moving to Chicago, Obama linked up with the local communist networks.

Manning Marable, a leader of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism claims that Obama understands what socialism is. A lot of the people working with him are, indeed, socialists with backgrounds in the Communist Party or as independent Marxists. There are a lot of people like that in Chicago who have worked with him for years…”

It seems that Valerie Jarrett is simply following a family tradition-one of promoting up and coming radical politicians.

In the late 1940s Valerie Jarrett’s future father in law, Vernon Jarrett was a rising activist and journalist on the South Side of Chicago.

Vernon Jarrett worked in the South Side Community Art Center and on the black run Chicago Defender newspaper.

The Communist Party had several cadre in both organizations, including a covert member, the black poet and journalist Frank Marshall Davis.

Jarrett and Davis also had a third organisation in common-Communist Party dominated Citizen’s Committee to Aid Packing House Workers-which in 1948 was “organized to support the united packing-House workers of America C.I.O. now on strike

The letter above is dated April 12, 1948. Note that CIO (Congress of Industrial Organizations) was at the time a communist controlled labor federation.

To the left is a partial list of Citizen’s Committee to Aid Packing House Workers officials.

Note the names Oscar C. Brown (Treasurer) and Louise T. Patterson (Assistant Treasurer), F.M. Davis and Vernon Jarrett.

To confirm the connection, below is a close-up of the organization’s publicity committee. Note that it is chaired by Vernon Jarrett and includes Frank Marshall Davis.

That the Citizen’s Committee was communist influenced is beyond doubt.

Louise T Patterson was the wife of Illinois Communist Party vice-chairman William Patterson and a prominent Party member in her own right.

Further down the page was list of the organization’s “Food and groceries committee”. Named among them was Ishmael Flory, a leader of the Illinois Communist Party from the late 1930s until his death in 2004.

Oscar C Brown-later a famous jazz musician under the name Oscar Brown Jnr, was also at the time a Communist Party member. He joined in 1946 and was expelled around 1954.

In 1948 Vernon Jarrett left his job as journalist at the Chicago Defender to start a black oriented radio show “Negro Newsfront” with Oscar Brown.

Late the same year Frank Marshall Davis moved to Hawaii where he was active in the underground Communist Party. At one point, like many of his comrades Davis became a Democratic Party official.

Later in 1970, Frank Marshall Davis met and mentored a fellow future Democrat-Barack Obama.

Vernon Jarrett was clearly on the left and possibly, like his colleague Frank Marshall Davis, a covert member of the Communist Party.

Vernon Jarrett went on to become the Chicago Tribune’s first black syndicated columnist and was a founder of the National Association of Black Journalists.

According to a Washington Post obituary May 25th 2004.

Mr. Jarrett continually shone a light on African American history and pertinent issues in Chicago and throughout the country. He stoked the political embers in Chicago that led to the 1983 election of the city’s first African American mayor, Harold Washington.

Vernon Jarrett was a key influence in Washington’s decision to run for the Chicago mayoralty and remained a key supporter through his four year tenure.

Harold Washington defeated the Daley machine to win the mayoralty backed by a coalition led by Chicago’s Communist Party and the local branch of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

DSA member and socialist historian Paul Buhle, wrote in a 1992 article for the Encyclopedia of the American Left;

Communists also gained from long-standing political contacts in the black community. Victories of black mayoral and congressional candidates with decades — old ties to the CP — a short list would include Coleman Young and George Crocket in Detroit, Gus Newport in Berkeley, and somewhat more ambiguously, Harold Washington in Chicago

Washington was actively involved in Communist Party fronts, including the US Peace Council and the Chicago Committee on Southern Africa, right up to winning the mayoralty-with Party support. After victory he stacked his administration full of communists, socialists and sympathisers to create one of the most far left administrations in US history-cut short only by his pre-mature death in 1987.

The legacy of Harold Washington’s election and his administration is in the collective consciousness not only of the African American community, but the entire city. Many of his democratizing achievements endure 20 years later.

The historic election of Washington was the culmination of many years of struggle. It reflected a high degree of unity of the African American community and the alliance with a section of labor, the Latino community and progressive minded whites. This legacy of political independence also endures…

This was also reflected in the historic election of Barack Obama. Our Party actively supported Obama during the primary election. Once again Obama’s campaign reflected the electoral voting unity of the African American community, but also the alliances built with several key trade unions, and forces in the Latino and white communities. .

It also reflected a breakthrough among white voters. In the primary, Obama won 35% of the white vote and 7 north side wards, in a crowded field. During the general election he won every ward in the city and all the collar counties. This appeal has continued in his presidential run

Barack Obama has stated that Harold Washington’s victory in 1983 was the spur that made him leave New York for a $13,000 a year job “community organizing” in South Chicago.

Vernon Jarrett was also a fan of Barack Obama. He watched his career from its early stages and became an ardent supporter.

In 1992 Obama worked for the ACORN offshoot, Project Vote to register black voters in aid of the Senate Campaign of Carol Moseley Braun. Unsurprisingly Moseley Braun also had strong Communist Party ties and was Harold Washington’s legislative floor leader.

Obama helped Moseley Braun win her Senate seat, then took it over himself in 2004-backed of course by the same communist/socialist alliance that had elected his political predecessors Harold Washington and Carol Moseley Braun.

Commenting on the 1992 race, Vernon Jarrett wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of August 11th 1992;

Good news! Good news! Project Vote, a collectivity of 10 church-based community organizations dedicated to black voter registration, is off and running. Project Vote is increasing its rolls at a 7,000-per-week clip…If Project Vote is to reach its goal of registering 150,000 out of an estimated 400,000 unregistered blacks statewide, “it must average 10,000 rather than 7,000 every week,” says Barack Obama, the program’s executive director...

Dee Myles is a Chicago activist and chair of the Education Commission of the Communist Party USA. In 2004, after Vernon Jarret’s death from cancer she penned this tribute for the People’s Weekly World of June 5th.

Readers like me can be extremely selective of the journalists we read habitually… We are selective about the journalists to whom we become insatiably addicted, and once hooked we develop a constructive love affair without the romance… .

Such was my experience with Vernon Jarrett, an African American journalist in Chicago who died at the age of 86 on May 23. I became a Vernon Jarrett addict, and I am proud of it!

Vernon Jarrett’s career as a journalist in Chicago began and ended at the Chicago Defender, the African American daily paper. In between, he was the first Black journalist at the Chicago Tribune, and I first began to read his articles during his tenure at the Chicago Sun-Times

Jarrett’s claim to fame is that he was a partisan of the cause of African Americans in the broad democratic tradition of Paul Robeson and W.E.B. DuBois..

Robeson and DuBois were both Communist Party members. On April 9th, 1998 at Chicago’s South Shore Cultural Center, Jarrett hosted a Paul Robeson Citywide Centennial Celebration event, with his old comrade and Party sympathiser Margaret Burroughs and former Communist Party members Studs Terkel and his old friend Oscar C.Brown.

Paul Robeson incidentally, encouraged Frank Marshall Davis to move to Hawaii.

Jarrett was fanatical about African Americans registering and voting in mass for socially conscious candidates. He championed Harold Washington like a great warrior, and this March, from his hospital bed, wrote an article appealing to Black Chicago to turn out to vote for Barack Obama in the Illinois primaries. Obama astounded everyone with an incredible landslide victory as the progressive, Black candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for the U.S. Senate seat from Illinois. From his sickbed, Vernon Jarrett issued a clarion call, and the people responded.

The Jarrett/Obama conection did not end with Vernon Jarrett’s death-it moved to a higher level.

A former Deputy Corporation Counsel for Finance and Development under Harold Washington, Valerie Jarrett continued to work in the mayor’s office into the 1990s.

In 1991, while Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Richard Daley, Valerie Jarrett hired Michelle Robinson, then engaged to Barack Obama.

Later Valerie Jarrett ran the finances for Obama’s 2004 Senate bid and served as treasurer of Obama’s HOPEFUND.

Jarrett became one of the Obamas’ closest friends and advisers-sometimes even described as the “other side of Barack’s brain”..

Valerie Bowman’s marriage to Vernon Jarrett’s late son only lasted five years but the Bowman and Jarrett families had been life long friends.

Valerie Jarrett’s mother, early childhood education authory Barbara Taylor Bowman also has some interesting connections.

For several years she has run the Chicago based Erikson Institute. An ealy Erikson board member was Chicago businessman and “liberal” activist Tom Ayers-father of Weather Underground terrorist leader and long time Obama colleague Bill Ayers.

Bernardine Dohrn, wife of Bill and reputedly the real leader of Weather Underground has also served on the Erikson board in recent years.

According to World Net Daily’s Brad O’Leary;

Tom Ayers served as a trustee of the Erikson Institute. The Institute distributed $46,025 in Northern Trust scholarships. At the time, the Erickson Institute Board of Trustees also included Ayers’ convicted felon daughter-in-law, Bernadine Dohrn Ayers. In addition, the Institute’s co-founder, Barbara Bowman, is the mother of close Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett.

In an obvious reference to Barbara Taylor Bowman, Bill Ayers wrote on page 82 of his book, “A Kind and Just Parent”, describing his Hyde Park neighborhood:

“Just south I see the Robert Taylor Homes named for the first head of the Chicago Housing Authority, whose daughter, a neighbor and friend is president of the Erikson Institute.”

Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn have both been leaders of the radical Movement for a Democratic Society-alongside Van Jones associates Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz and Betita Martinez.

Barbara Bowman was interviewed for Timuel Black’s “Bridges of Memory: Chicago’s First Wave of Black Migration-an Oral History”. Timuel Black, serves on the advisory board of Committees for Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism alongside Manning Marable and Van Jones’ mentor and friend Betita Martinez.

Timuel Black is also a long time friend of Barack Obama.

The Erikson Institute is named after pioneering child educationalist Erik Erikson, an errant disciple of Sigmund Freud and coiner of the phrase “identity crisis”.

In 1950 Erikson became a cause celebre on the left after leaving the University of California rather than sign an anti-communist loyalty oath.

Interestingly Larry Friedman, activist and author of the 1999 book “Identity’s Architect: A Biography of Erik H. Erikson” also had ties to communism and California.

Both my parents were very active in the Communist Party…So that’s very much where I picked up the activism.”

In the late 1940s, Larry’s family moved from Ohio to California, ostensibly for health reasons as Larry “was always getting sick. The real reason, as Dorothy Healy later explained to me, is the Party reassigned my father to California to organize.”

Larry friedman states that he been in contact with Erikson since the 1960s. Did the introduction come through his Communist parents?

Coincidentally Dorothy Healey, once the top communist in Southern California, later attended the 1992 founding conference of the Committees of Correspondence in Berkeley-alongside later Van Jones associates Betita Martinez, Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, Max Elbaum, Arnoldo Garcia and Bob Wing.

In March this year the Communist Party’s People’s Weekly World reprinted an IPS article on the prospects for children under Obama.

Some are hopeful that the new administration of President Barack Obama, who appears focused on children’s welfare and education, will reverse this decline.

“It is important to remember that for the first time in a long time we have a person who gets it,” said Barbara Bowman, a consultant to the U.S. Secretary of Education, praising Obama for “(understanding) the importance of early childhood care and education.”

It’s almost as if it was fated that Jones’, Jarrett’s and Obama’s paths would cross.

A Dirty Secret Within Obamacare Bill: Government Coming into Homes and Usurping Parental Rights Over Child Care and Development

Dirty secret No. 1 in Obamacare is about the government’s coming into homes and usurping parental rights over child care and development.

It’s outlined in sections 440 and 1904 of the House bill (Page 838), under the heading “home visitation programs for families with young children and families expecting children.” The programs (provided via grants to states) would educate parents on child behavior and parenting skills.

The bill says that the government agents, “well-trained and competent staff,” would “provide parents with knowledge of age-appropriate child development in cognitive, language, social, emotional, and motor domains … modeling, consulting, and coaching on parenting practices,” and “skills to interact with their child to enhance age-appropriate development.”

Are you kidding me?! With whose parental principles and values? Their own? Certain experts’? From what field and theory of childhood development? As if there are one-size-fits-all parenting techniques! Do we really believe they would contextualize and personalize every form of parenting in their education, or would they merely universally indoctrinate with their own?

Are we to assume the state’s mediators would understand every parent’s social or religious core values on parenting? Or would they teach some secular-progressive and religiously neutered version of parental values and wisdom? And if they were to consult and coach those who expect babies, would they ever decide circumstances to be not beneficial for the children and encourage abortions?

One government rebuttal is that this program would be “voluntary.” Is that right? Does that imply that this agency would just sit back passively until some parent needing parenting skills said, “I don’t think I’ll call my parents, priest or friends or read a plethora of books, but I’ll go down to the local government offices”? To the contrary, the bill points to specific targeted groups and problems, on Page 840: The state “shall identify and prioritize serving communities that are in high need of such services, especially communities with a high proportion of low-income families.”

Are we further to conclude by those words that low-income families know less about parenting? Are middle- and upper-class parents really better parents? Less neglectful of their children? Less needful of parental help and training? Is this “prioritized” training not a biased, discriminatory and even prejudicial stereotype and generalization that has no place in federal government, law or practice?

Bottom line: Is all this what you want or expect in a universal health care bill being rushed through Congress? Do you want government agents coming into your home and telling you how to parent your children? When did government health care turn into government child care?

Government needs less of a role in running our children’s lives and more of a role in supporting parents’ decisions for their children. Children belong to their parents, not the government. And the parents ought to have the right — and government support — to parent them without the fed’s mandates, education or intervention in our homes.

Kids are very important to my wife, Gena, and me. That’s why we’ve spent the past 17 years developing our nonprofit KICKSTART program in public schools in Texas. It builds up their self-esteem and teaches them respect and discipline. Of course, whether or not they participate in the program is their and their parents’ choice.

How contrary is Obamacare’s home intrusion and indoctrination family services, in which state agents prioritize houses to enter and enforce their universal values and principles upon the hearts and minds of families across America?

Government’s real motives and rationale are quite simple, though rarely, if ever, stated. If one wants to control the future ebbs and flows of a country, one must have command over future generations. That is done by seizing parental and educational power, legislating preferred educational methods and materials, and limiting private educational options. It is so simple that any socialist can understand it.

As Josef Stalin once stated, “Education is a weapon whose effects depend on who holds it in his hands and at whom it is aimed.”

Before so-called universal health care turns into universal hell care, write or call your representative today and protest his voting Obamacare into law. Remind him that what is needed in Washington is a truly bipartisan group that is allowed an ample amount of time to work on a compromise health care law that wouldn’t raise taxes (for anyone), regulate personal medical choices, ration health care or restrict American citizens.

Okay, so WHAT is the purpose of this section of the Healthcare Bill?  Is it because the low income and Indian tribes of America don’t know how to parent children?  I don’t think so.  Is it because the low income and Indian tribes of America don’t feed their children correctly; thus causing health problems?  I don’t think so.  Is it because the customs and culture of the low income and Indian tribes of America’s culture and customs leave their children lacking brain development and thusly in need of intervention?  I don’t think so.

So what are sections 440 and 1904 of the House bill (Pages 838-847), about anyway?

THIS ONE STATEMENT GOT ME THINKING:

“provide parents with knowledge of age-appropriate child development in cognitive, language, social, emotional, and motor domains … modeling, consulting, and coaching on parenting practices,” and “skills to interact with their child to enhance age-appropriate development.”

Basically, does this mean the socio-psychological development of a child’s mental health and physiological development?  A “healthy/mentally stable child”?

So……I started looking into sites of “child development”, “child social/emotional development”,  “child age-appropriate development” and the name Eric Erikson and Erikson Institute kept reappearing.

So then I decided to look into the Erikson Institute.

Erik Erickson studied the psychoanalysis of Sigmud Freud of develpment in the human mind.  Erikson took the five steps of Freud and added three more to make eight stages.

An institute was started to provide instruction and training to professionals.  Upon digging further I discovered something that make me sit up and go WHOA.

4.  Off subject but worth mentioning: A tie of Barbara Bowman to Bill Ayers?On page 82 of Ayers book,    A kind and Just Parent,   many people may have mentioned that Ayers mentions Obama, when discussing his beloved Hyde Park neighborhood. Something that they may have overlooked though, is that in mentioning Muhammad Ali, Farakhhan and Obama in the same sentence (as Neighbors) is a little alarming he also mentions this,

ASK QUESTIONS AMERICA!  ASK our Congressmen/women WHAT exactly does this section mean?  WHY is it part of the healthcare bill?  Is the government going to be given the right to come in our homes to make sure the children of the future are developing mentally and physically to the government’s liking?

It is now well established that Barack Obama was linked to the Hawaiian Communist Party network through his boyhood/teenage mentor Frank Marshall Davis.

It is also well known that after moving to Chicago, Obama linked up with the local communist networks.

Manning Marable, a leader of the Communist Party offshoot Committees of Correspondence for Democracy&Socialism claims that Obama understands what socialism is. A lot of the people working with him are, indeed, socialists with backgrounds in the Communist Party or as independent Marxists. There are a lot of people like that in Chicago who have worked with him for years…”

This leads to two key questions.

A.   Were the Hawaii and Chicago networks connected?

B .  Did Obama’s connection to Frank Marshall Davis in any way influence his progress up the Chicago political ladder?

If the answer is yes to both, there are significant implications.

It means that that the Communist Party USA was watching Obama from an early age and was willing to help his political career.

Frank Marshall Davis was active in the Chicago Communist Party until he moved to Hawaii in late 1948.

I speculated in this post that Davis may have known left wing journalist Vernon Jarrett in post war Chicago. A connection would be significant because the Jarrett family has played a very important role in Obama’s rise to power.

Both Jarrett and Davis worked in the communist dominated South Side Community Art Center and on the communist influenced Chicago Defender newspaper, in late 1940s Chicago.

I have since found conclusive evidence that Davis and Jarrett not only knew each other, but worked together in another Communist Party dominated organisation-The Citizen’s Committee to Aid Packing House Workers.

Louise T Patterson
Louise T Patterson was the wife of Illinois Communist Party vice-chairman and attorney William Patterson and a prominent Party member in her own right. Louise Patterson was still a leader of the Illinois Communist Party well into the 1970s.
Ishmael Flory
Further down the page was list of the organization’s “Food and groceries committee”. Named among them was Ishmael Flory, a leader of the Illinois Communist Party from the late 1930s until his death in 2004.

Incidentally, one of the eulogists at Flory’s funeral was Timuel Black, a well known member of Committees of Correspondence for Democracy&Socialism and a long time friend and political supporter of Barack Obama.

Oscar C Brown-later a famous jazz musician under the name Oscar Brown jnr, was also at the time a Communist Party member. he joined in 1946 and was expelled around 1954.

In 1948 Vernon Jarrett left his job as journalist at the Chicago Defender to start a black oriented radio show “Negro Newsfront” with Oscar Brown.

Jarrett was clearly on the far left and almost certainly, like his colleague Frank Marshall Davis, a covert member of the Communist Party.

Jarrett worked hard promoting socialist causes including the communist controlled Progressive Party.

Vernon Jarrett went on to become the Chicago Tribune’s first black syndicated columnist and was a founder of the National Association of Black Journalists.

According to a Washington Post obituary May 25th 2004

Mr. Jarrett continually shone a light on African American history and pertinent issues in Chicago and throughout the country. He stoked the political embers in Chicago that led to the 1983 election of the city’s first African American mayor, Harold Washington.

Vernon Jarrett was a key influence in Washington’s decision to run for the Chicago mayoralty and remained a key supporter through his four year tenure.

Harold Washington defeated the Daley machine to win the mayoralty backed by a coalition led by Chicago’s Communist Party and the local branch of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Victories of black mayoral and congressional candidates with decades — old ties to the CP — a short list would include Coleman Young and George Crocket in Detroit, Gus Newport in Berkeley, and somewhat more ambiguously, Harold Washington in Chicago

Washington was actively involved in Communist Party fronts such as the US Peace Council and the Chicago Committee on Southern Africa, right up to winning the mayoralty-with Party support. After victory he stacked his administration full of communists, socialists and sympathisers to create one of the most far left administrations in US history-cut short only by his pre-mature death after four years in office.

  The legacy of Harold Washington’s election and his administration is in the collective consciousness not only of the African American community, but the entire city. Many of his democratizing achievements endure 20 years later.
 
 
This was also reflected in the historic election of Barack Obama. Our Party actively supported Obama during the primary election. Once again Obama’s campaign reflected the electoral voting unity of the African American community, but also the alliances built with several key trade unions, and forces in the Latino and white communities.
It also reflected a breakthrough among white voters. In the primary, Obama won 35% of the white vote and 7 north side wards, in a crowded field. During the general election he won every ward in the city and all the collar counties. This appeal has continued in his presidential run.

 

Barack Obama has stated that Harold Washington’s victory in 1983 was the spur that made him leave New York to move to Chicago.

Vernon Jarrett was also a fan of Barack Obama. He watched his career from its early stages and became an ardent supporter.

Carol Moseley Braun

In 1992 Obama worked for the ACORN offshoot, Project Vote to register black voters in aid of the Senate Campaign of Carol Moseley Braun. Unsurprisingly Moseley Braun also had strong Communist Party ties and was Harold Washington’s legislative floor leader.

Obama helped Moseley Braun win her Senate seat, then took it over himself in 2004-backed of course by the same communist/socialist alliance that had elected his political predecessors Harold Washington and Carol Moseley Braun.

Commenting on the 1992 race, Vernon Jarrett wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times of August 11th 1992;

Good news! Good news! Project Vote, a collectivity of 10 church-based community organizations dedicated to black voter registration, is off and running. Project Vote is increasing its rolls at a 7,000-per-week clip…If Project Vote is to reach its goal of registering 150,000 out of an estimated 400,000 unregistered blacks statewide, “it must average 10,000 rather than 7,000 every week,” says Barack Obama, the program’s executive director...

Dee Myles is a Chicago activist and chair of the Education Commission of the Communist Party USA. In 2004, after Vernon Jarret’s death from cancer she penned this tribute for the People’s Weekly World of June 5th.

Readers like me can be extremely selective of the journalists we read habitually… We are selective about the journalists to whom we become insatiably addicted, and once hooked we develop a constructive love affair without the romance…
 
Such was my experience with Vernon Jarrett, an African American journalist in Chicago who died at the age of 86 on May 23. I became a Vernon Jarrett addict, and I am proud of it!
Vernon Jarrett’s career as a journalist in Chicago began and ended at the Chicago Defender, the African American daily paper. In between, he was the first Black journalist at the Chicago Tribune, and I first began to read his articles during his tenure at the Chicago Sun-Times Jarrett’s claim to fame is that he was a partisan of the cause of African Americans in the broad democratic tradition of Paul Robeson and W.E.B. DuBois…
 
  Robeson and DuBois were both Communist Party members. On April 9th, 1998 at Chicago’s South Shore Cultural Center, Jarrett hosted a Paul Robeson Citywide Centennial Celebration event, with his old comrade and Party sympathiser Margaret Burroughs and former Communist Party members Studs Terkel and his old friend Oscar C.Brown.

Jarrett was fanatical about African Americans registering and voting in mass for socially conscious candidates. He championed Harold Washington like a great warrior, and this March, from his hospital bed, wrote an article appealing to Black Chicago to turn out to vote for Barack Obama in the Illinois primaries. Obama astounded everyone with an incredible landslide victory as the progressive, Black candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for the U.S. Senate seat from Illinois. From his sickbed, Vernon Jarrett issued a clarion call, and the people responded.

The Jarrett/Obama conection did not end with Vernon Jarrett’s death-it moved to a higher level with his famous daughter-in-law Valerie Jarrett.

A former Deputy Corporation Counsel for Finance and Development under Harold Washington, Jarrett continued to work in the mayor’s office into the 1990s.

In 1991, while Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Richard Daley, Jarrett hired Michelle Robinson, then engaged to Barack Obama.

Later Valerie Jarrett ran the finances for Obama’s 2004 Senate bid and served as treasurer of Obama’s HOPEFUND.

The relationship is more than professional-Jarrett is regarded as one of the Obamas’ closest friends and advisors.

The development comes as Jarrett, a charter member of Sen. Barack Obama’s kitchen cabinet, has been formalizing her portfolio and stepping up the pace within the past few weeks as a top advisor within the campaign.
 
  Though she will be part-time, Jarrett will be one of the most visible and powerful African-Americans in the top rungs of the Obama operation… Today Valerie Jarrett serves as one of three Senior Advisors to President Obama.She is Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement, and Chairs the White House Commission on Women and Girls.Frank Marshall Davis works closely in communist causes with Vernon Jarrett in Chicago. Davis moves to hawaii where he eventually meets and mentors a young Barack Obama. Then Obama moves to Chicago where his career is promoted by both Davis’s old colleague Vernon Jarrett and the Communist Party. Vernon Jarrett’s daughter-in-law employs Barack Obama’s fiance, befriends the family and becomes one of President Obama’s most trusted advisors. The Communist Party throws its entire weight behind Obama’s presidential campaign.Are we expected to believe that this is all mere coincidence?Would there be an Obama/Jarrett relationship today, if there had been no Frank Marshall Davis/Jarrett connection through the Communist Party of post war Chicago?

What role, if any, has the modern Communist Party USA played in fostering that relationship in more recent times?

The Communist Party USA continues to back their “friend” Barack Obama.

How deeply has the Communist Party been involved in advancing Obama’s political career-through the Jarrett family, or by other means?

The answers to these questions will have major implications for the future of what’s left of the free world.
