Obama File 72 Obama Appoints “Former” Communist To White House “Green Job”

A few short years ago Anthony (Van) Jones was a Bay Area radical agitator-a committed Marxist-Leninist-Maoist, waging war on the police and capitalist system.

Today Van Jones holds a key position in the US government and has the ear of President Barack Obama.
According to the White House Blog March 10th, 2009
The White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) Chair Nancy Sutley announced yesterday that Van Jones – an early green jobs visionary — will start Monday as Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at CEQ:

Van Jones has been a strong voice for green jobs and we look forward to having him work with departments and agencies to advance the President’s agenda of creating 21st century jobs that improve energy efficiency and utilize renewable resources. Jones will also help to shape and advance the Administration’s energy and climate initiatives with a specific interest in improvements and opportunities for vulnerable communities.

Jones is the founder of Green For All, an organization focused on creating green jobs in impoverished areas. He is also the co-founder of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights and Color of Change, and was the author of the 2008 New York Times best-seller, The Green Collar Economy.

Today Van Jones mixes not with street level militants, but with the cream of the left “establishment“.

But who is Van Jones? Has he really abandoned his communist beliefs?
Van Jones first moved to San Francisco in the spring of 1992, while studying law at Yale, when the leftist Lawyers Committee for Human Rights hired several law students to act as legal observers during the trial of policemen charged with assaulting Rodney King.

Not guilty verdicts in the King case led to mass rioting-which Jones joined in.
Arrested and jailed, Van Jones met a whole new circle of friends.

November 2nd 2005
“I met all these young radical people of color – I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, ‘This is what I need to be a part of… I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary…I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th..By August, I was a communist.”

The communist organisation Van jones went on to lead was called Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement (STORM).

According to the leftist blog Machete 48

Returning to Van Jones, with all the shimmer associated with a rising star, many forget that a man now advising the president was a member of a revolutionary organization in the SF Bay Area called STORM (Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement). Throughout the group’s history, Van Jones was seen as a public figure within the Bay Area left and a leading member of STORM.
STORM had its roots in a grouping of people of color organizing against he Gulf War in the early 1990’s and was formally founded in 1994. The group’s politics had a number of influences, but evolved towards what could be best characterized as third worldist Marxism (and an often vulgar Maoism). The group grew in influence until its disbanding in 2002 amid problems of internal dynamics and especially controversy around the leadership roles that members played in the youth movement (such as the fight against Proposition 21). Nearly the entire membership of the organization was staff members for various social movement non-profits in the Bay Area, many linked to the Ella Baker Center, which Van Jones steered.

While never large, STORM was one of the most influential and active radical groups in the Bay Area, controlling numerous front organisations including Bay Area Police Watch, one of several anti police activities Jones was involved in.

Other STORM fronts included a Marxist training organisation-School of Unity and Liberation (SOUL) and an unemployed rights group-People Organized to Win Employment Rights(POWER).

Jones and STORM were also very active in the anti Iraq War demonstrations of the early 2000’s.

While way out on the left STORM also worked with “mainstream” communists.
Bay Area left identity Elizabeth (Betita) Martinez was close to Jones and helped “mentor” his Ella Baker Human Rights Center.
Martinez was a long time Maoist who went on to join the Communist Party USA breakaway organisation Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism  (CCDS)in the early 1990s.
Martinez still serves on the CCDS advisory board alongside radicals such as Angela Davis, Timuel Black (a personal friend of Barack Obama who served on his 2004 Senate campaign committee) and musician Pete Seeger  (who performed at Obama’s Washington Inauguration Concert.Martinez and Jones worked together on several projects including attending a Challenging White Supremacy workshop which much impressed Jones;
Martinez is also a board member of Movement for a Democratic Society, the radical parent body of Progressives for Obama

“To solve the new century’s mounting social and environmental problems, people of color activist and white activists need to be able to join forces. But all too often, the unconscious racism of white activists stands in the way of any effective, worthwhile collaboration. The Challenging White Supremacy Workshop is the most powerful tool that I have seen for removing the barriers to true partnerships between people of color and white folks. If the CWS trainings were mandatory for all white activists, the progressive movement in the United States would be unstoppable.”

Obama File 73 Weather Alert! Obama’s “Green Jobs” Czar Linked to Former Terrorist Supporters?

http://newzeal.blogspot.com/2009/04/blog-post_08.html

Now it turns out that Van Jones, president Obama’s newly appointed “Green Jobs” Czar (Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality) may also have a little Weather Underground influence in his background.

While Jones is even younger than Obama, the connections may still have serious security implications.

Van Jones was, until around 2002, a leader of a Bay Area communist sect  Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary movement (STORM). It seems that Jones was also linked to or influenced, to some degree, by two former Weather Underground supporters, Bay Area activists Jon and Nancy Frappier.
In 2005, Van Jones and Diana Frappier launched the Ella Baker Center’s Green-Collar Jobs Campaign. This led to the establishment of the US’s first “Green Jobs Corps” in Oakland.

In 2007, Van Jones announced a new national organization
Green For All-to take the Green Jobs campaign nationwide.

Diana Frappier serves on the board of Green For All. Jon and Nancy Frappier are listed as donors to the organization.

[ My Note here]: Van Jones tied to WeatherUnderground (Bill Ayers anyone?) also connected to cc-ds.org.

Van Jones’ connection: Carl Pope Serves on the ARW Board of Directors and is Executive director of the Sierra Club.
In 1966 Pope was active in Students for a Democratic Society protests at Harvard University.
Pope is a board member of the green/labor caolition, the Apollo Alliance with DSA member Gerry Hudson and IPS Trustee and former director Robert Borosage.

Pope also works closely with another former Apollo Alliance board member, Van Jones. A “former” revolutionary communist, Jones now works with Hilda Solis as a “green jobs” advisor to president Obama.

From the LEFT FORUM 2009:

I had to quickly get to the next panel, since I was on it, and there was only about five minutes between sessions. “Building a Progressive Majority and Advancing a Vision of Socialism” was the title, and it was pulled together by my group, Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, and chaired by Pat Fry, an SEIU staffer. I led off by presenting Van Jones’s program for Green Jobs for inner city youth, but framing it as a larger structural reform project that could, if done right, unite a progressive majority and help get us out of the current crisis. At the same time, we had to unite a militant minority around socialist tasks, so I offered the solidarity economy movement and its projects as practical examples of cooperative forms that could, within the capitalist present, point to a socialist future.

My end note:

So there you have it AMERICA!  A “Green Jobs” Czar that has ties to the Weather Underground, the Maoists/Marxists in charge of the “Green Jobs” that Obama boasts will create jobs in America.

These will tie into all the UNIONS.  Anna Burger and Hilda Solis will see to that.

The Cap and Trade Bill passed by the House; now headed to the Senate all tied into Clinton, Gore and Obama.  Who will profit from this bill?

Will anyone in the Congress even question Van Jones’ connections?
AMERICA: Do you feel duped, hoodwinked or boondoggled yet?

  1. Sigh…you’re still overreaching. Unlike Obama, Van Jones is a man of the left. But the Weather Underground you have him ‘tied’ to is long dead and defunct before he came to politics. You could have him as a co-worker of people who, in the past, were connected to WUO, but then, so was Mayor Daley. Since more than a few WUO cadre came from the upper crust, you could find all sorts of irrelevant ‘connections.’

Then you’re still carrying on about MDS as some ‘parent!’ That is a joke to all concerned, especially those supporting ‘Progressives for Obama’, who know better. But it gives you some paper rivets for your connections, which is why you cling to it.

Van Jones is a an excellent leader offering hope to a section of our society who needs it most, inner city youth. His well-reasoned book has important lessons for all, and the country ignores them at its own peril. If you want the best and most qualified on the topic, he’s your man, which is most likely why Obama picked him. There no law of the universe that says decent and important ideas and leaders can only come from the center and the right.

    Response from Romanticpoet:
Hey Carl (Davidson); nice to see you still monitor my blogs!
For those of you that don’t know Carl Davidson:
    From: http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=2322

    Marxist anti-war activist
Former member of Students for a Democratic Society
    Political supporter of Barack Obama

Carl Davidson is an American Marxist who serves as a national steering committee member of United for Peace and Justice, a field organizer for the Solidarity Economy Network, and co-chair of Chicagoans Against War & Injustice. The latter organization has formed alliances with such groups as the League of Women Voters, Rainbow/PUSH, Citizen Action, People for the American Way, the Progressive Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Aiming ultimately to transform the United States into a socialist nation, Davidson advocates the mobilization of “new grassroots majorities required for progressive, systemic change.”

As a college student in the 1960s, Davidson was a national secretary of Students of a Democratic Society and a national leader of the anti-Vietnam War movement. He received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Penn State University and later found employment as a philosophy instructor at the University of Nebraska, also in the 1960s.

Davidson and Tom Hayden take credit for having launched in 1969 the “Venceremos Brigades,” which covertly transported hundreds of young Americans to Cuba to help harvest sugar cane and interact with Havana’s communist revolutionary leadership. (The Brigades were organized by Fidel Castro’s Cuban intelligence agency, which trained “brigadistas” in guerrilla warfare techniques, including the use of arms and explosives.)

Many years later, Davidson would reflect on his SDS days when he, along with Dave Dellinger and Tom Hayden, had taken advantage of an opportunity to converse at length with President Castro. Said Davidson: “He [Castro] is a remarkable man, with a photographic memory, wide knowledge and keen insights…. We should all wish Fidel and Cuba well, and double our voices against the blockcade.”

In 1988 Davidson founded Networking for Democracy (NFD), an initiative that teaches computer skills and radical politics to Chicago-area teenagers. The NFD program encourages students to engage in “mass action” aimed at “tearing down the old structures of race and class privilege” in the U.S. “and around the world.”

In 1992 Davidson became a leader of the newly formed Committees of Correspondence, a Marxist coalition of former Maoists, Trotskyists, and Communist Party USA members. The organization has since changed its name to the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, where Davidson remains a prominent figure.

In the mid-1990s Davidson was a major player in the Chicago branch of the New Party, a Marxist political coalition whose objective was to endorse and elect leftist public officials. Most New Party members hailed from the Committees of Correspondence (the Marxist coalition cited in the preceding paragraph), the Democratic Socialists of America, and the militant leftist organization ACORN. Davidson first met Barack Obama through the New Party, which endorsed the latter in his run for the Illinois state senate in 1996. Obama had actively sought this endorsement, and he used a number of New Party volunteers as campaign workers.

Davidson quickly became one of Obama’s most ardent political supporters. He helped organize a large 2002 rally where Obama first established himself as an eloquent anti-war spokesman.

A longtime admirer of Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Davidson views the Iraq War as an endeavor rooted in American imperialism and “racism.” In June 2004 he endorsed John Kerry for U.S. President and condemned “the Bush administration’s ill-conceived ‘War on Terror’ [the sneer quotes are Davidson’s], its drive to an unjust war with Iraq, and … the ongoing brutal occupation of that country.” Blaming “Bush’s unilateralist, militaristic approach” for having “lost the battle for hearts and minds … in the Islamic world,” he accused the President of using the professed goal of “expanding democracy” as “a cover for U.S. hegemonism and Empire.”

In Davis’ view, “[T]he U.S government, at least over the past 50 years, has been the chief terrorist and sponsor of terrorism in the world. We can never forget that our government has the blood of a million Vietnamese on its hands.”

By 2007, Davidson had become somewhat disillusioned by what he perceived as a diminution in Barack Obama’s anti-war fervor. Early that year, for example, Davidson wrote the following:

“I’m from Chicago … and [I’ve] known Obama from the time he came to the New Party to get our endorsement for his first race ever…. He said all the right things to the ACORN and New Party folks, and we endorsed him [in 1996], but I noticed too, that he seemed to measure every answer to questions put to him several times before coming out with it….

“After he visited Iraq when the war was on, he turned. Now we had to set aside whether it was right or wrong to invade, now we had to find the ‘smart’ path to victory, not Bush’s ‘dumb’ path. Also, in dealing with Iran, we had to leave on the table bombing their nuclear sites. For this, a lot of the local antiwar activists started calling him ‘Barack ‘Obomb ’em’…. Our peace groups here are sending a bunch of us to visit him soon, and get on his case. Perhaps he’s still a work in progress, as Jesse Jackson says, but he still has a way to go to get back in my good graces …”

Davidson is the author of several books, including CyberRadicalism: A New Left for a Global Age (co-authored with Jerry Harris), and Stopping War, Seeking Justice (co-authored with Marilyn Katz).

  3. Obama’s “Green Czar” Is An Open Communist And Self Styled Radical With A Criminal Record…

Yeah… and all us bloggers who warned again and again that Obama was a ultra left wing radical masquerading as a moderate were just looney tunes. Here’s your new “Green Czar:, Anthony Jones in his own words: “I met all……

  5. Giving Van Jones this job is an insult to all veterans like my father, who fought, suffered and watched their friends die,and saw the horrors of communism first hand. my 82 year old father cant undertand how the president could do appoint a communist.when so many fought so hard to end the tyranny and the slaughter of millions of people at the hands of the communists

  7. Good riddance. Can’t believe he got 6 months of taxpayers money. He is a radical. Show me your company and I’ll tell you who you are. Obama should listen to that.

  8. The need to respond to a comment by the page owner is telling. In (his/her?) mind it is okay to bullshit a lot against the ones he disagree with politically, but it is not okay for them to make comments. In his “true democratic” ways he leaves the comment but tries to suffocate it with a tractate Fidel Castro could hardly match the length.

Out-scream the opposition. It’s the last weapon, and not effective either, the wrong-whinners have against the progress and true democracy. Thousands of years of killing and destroying anyone who is against them, the “democrats” managed only to expose themselves as a very angry and murderous lot who will stop at nothing to have it their way.

Some democracy is that where we can have it all as long as it is “their” way. And a lot means the right to work for free so that some Orwellian rich pig can have the money.

Funny how Orwell is promoted to have talked about communists, when he was actually talking about capitalist pigs in his 1984…

Propaganda. Just outscream them and all will be fine…

    Right?

  9. I have been a radical seeker of justice for all any color, religion, economic class. I have worked in prisons, county jails and I have found that these people have little hope and people without hope have nothing to lose and life is just another punishment. i am glad to see the OCCUPY protesters and I hope this will not become a shooting revolution. I believe that I have a novel, legitimate method of rapidly turning this country around by motivating the people who got us here to change. I would like to talk to you.

    ======================

It seems you are part of the Occupy Denver movement. Who do YOU actually think “Got us here?”

Do you feel Unions have anything to do with current State debt in Colorado?

Do you feel Socialism/Communism works for the economic justice for all?

Andy Stern the former president of SEIU wrote an Op-Ed today at WaPo that free markets and Capitalism should be put on the trash heap of history and that the US should follow the Economic model for CHINA. Do YOU agree?

Read “Democracy Denied” by Phil Kerpen and then maybe we will “talk”
